  • I remember around ‘99 they were doing one of those fake ads bits, and the ad was for a pair of binoculars. The joke tagline was “Watch from a safe distance as Satan’s legions triumph!” Which is already pretty funny. And then Andy said “It’s comforting to know that when Satan’s legions triumph there will be a safe distance.”

  • I can see why Conan wanted Andy out there, especially at the start. Conan is already a comedy genius but just in case there was even a chance of dead air, Andy fills it in. It's a recipe for success

    • They talked about that on one of the podcasts, like they clicked so fast when they first met it just seemed natural. And then after Andy left in the early 2000s, the bit of Conan and Max having zero chemistry grew out of him not having Andy there to help him.

    • No better instincts on display than with Mel Brooks. Andy held off as long as he could to not step on Mel’s bit, then he went just a bit too long vamping it. So before it died Andy put the button on it.
