Engine Mounts - 4x4 Off-Road UTV Build Ep.19
Fabricating mounts for engine, differential and tow hitch.
This is part of a series of a four wheel drive utility vehicle build to lessen the work load on my trusty 2002 Honda Foreman Rubicon TRX500FA. This partially answers the question "Why?" but for those who want to ask "why don't you just buy a side-by-side instead of building one?" I just want to say - I'm not made of money. Side-by-sides are ridiculously expensive, even the car I drive around daily is worth less (not worthless though!), hell, it is even worth less than my 2002 Honda ATV.
"How much HP will it have?" - the 1.4 litre FWD petrol engine I'm planning on using has 55 kw and this will not change, but the torque will be tripled via the BMW differentials I'm using to transfer power to front and rear axles.
"It will be too heavy!" - this project just like the firewood processor project does not have to float. And a heavier vehicle will handle better anyway when hauling heavy loads.
Stay tuned for future episodes! Thanks for watching!

I'm waiting for a series of videos. You throw it too late.
What kind of gas you use for the mig soda maker
you all probably dont give a damn but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost my password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Lane Reuben Instablaster :)
@Cannon Jabari Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I would use the 1.9L air bix. Looks like it is slightly larger so better airflow, plus it is easier to open when you need to change the air filter.
I feel the same.
@@DonnDIY Also, as you mentioned, snorkel option
I totally agree. Use the 1.9d.
Go with the 1.9 l air box as you will need a slightly higher air volume to compensate for the snorkel length.
As a retired builder myself I can totally relate to your videos. I love the calm relaxed and confident way you work and design. It seems the project speaks to you, like child to his father, and you just naturally respond, like the father to the child. I have been watching you for a while now, even when you were doing the construction of the work shop everything just seemed so relaxed and natural for you. You are certainly a gifted young man and I always look forward to your next video. Thank you so much for all your efforts. Art from Ohio
Thank you for the kind words. 😉
👍 from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 thanks for the video
Thank you!
Excellent video Engine Mounts, Tow Hitch - 4x4 Off-Road UTV Build Ep.19, my respect from Venezuela💯💯👍👍👍🤘🤘
Donn, I've used scraps of clear polycarbonate to make drilling patterns. I'm friends with a guy that works at a plastic supplier, so I generally get more than I have practical uses for. Just FYI.
A brilliant idea! Like having x-ray vision.
@@DuncanAitken I used the same technique to make an adapter plate to put a TDI in my Nissan D21 truck. I then had a guy make a steel one that was CNC plasma cut.
I would go with the bigger air cleaner box. Nothing but good came from when I put a larger filter in my car.
I'm glad to hear that!
I also think round air filters would be easier to source going forward. Beautiful work, enjoyable video
The tow hitch is a massive save for the plasma table that would have taken ages without it.
Careful with the coolant system even a small leak at operating temperature will change your life. Love the build.
I'm always impressed how fast you take decisions (and most of then are good) and also how do you care about safety. It is very please to watch. Thank you for the distraction in this crazy times!
Cheers from Finland! Always a pleasure watching your videos! I'm somewhat of a peugeot enthusiast and it's nice to see you're putting a TU engine there! One thing that started to concern me was the MA series gearbox which is prone to breaking. I wonder if you could get your hands on a BE4R gearbox which is way more durable. It should have the same dimensions and would have the same shaft pinions as far as I remember!
Thank you for the heads up. I'll see what I can do about it.
@@DonnDIY Yeah, if a brand enthusiast tells us a specific gearbox is known to fail, it's often something to be taken quite seriously. In an unconventional application this could be a real problem. I once suffered a known problem like this with a VW Golf mk IV transaxle that was notoriously bad. It's not fun when it refuses to switch gears. Reinforced type was good.
Your fabrication is on a higher level than most of KZhead. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 The engine appears the be a little “loose” with just those 3 mounts. Hopefully it holds up or you can find a set of holes to add a 4th mount to “tighten” it up a bit. Looks like the 1.9 airbox has a bigger filter so if you can make it work with the gas engine within the chassis then that would be my choice
Your CNC gives the perfect cut of my choice
C'est super le découpeur plasma et toujours à fond dans la soudure 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Awesome, but you have confirmed that you are indeed building a Transformer! 😁👍👍
😄
Nice work Donn 👍 It’s really looking awesome!
Thanks, Mike!
Just found him and impressed! Been binge watching. 😎
I know you have skills and all, but that Fronius makes your welding look as easy as breathing!!!
I really like the high tech design supports you have been making. Strong and light weight.
I love it when you design then make a part (I would have been crazy happy with it) then you scrap it. You are a perfectionist, bravo....
Well done!!
Can’t wait to see it run and move!
Hi Donn, thanks for the update. I'm sorry, but I'm running out of words to react to your awesome work. Other than.............. JUST FABULOUS, such a joy to watch. Take care my friend, see you next time.
Thank you!
I love your brackets! So well designed and artistic as well.
Отличная работа ! Привет из России 👍
I would have to say that I like the round air box cleaner better. Looks like it will fit your configuration a lot better. Excellent work !! That plasma table is really getting a workover it works very nice on the thick stuff as well !! I love this build !! One of a kind and custom !!👍👍
Awesome progress, Donn! I'd say go for the 1.9L option, for sure. Don't underestimate easy access (plus the snorkel benefit is a big plus!).
I love watching you work, very inspiring!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Как всегда на высоте! Красавчик! 👍✌
I’m sorry I make so many comments but your welds are so flawless. I wish my beads were this consistent.
We will waiting you are doing a great work really. All respect for you. From Libya 🇱🇾
you're laying some pretty nice beads of weld, well done project.
No me canso de ver el video y el trabajo realizado con la cortadora de plasma, es perfecto!!!!!! Felicidades!!!!!!!!!
I REALLY enjoy your fabrication videos. You're very talented and skilled.
Nice work. The quality of your work and attention to detail improves with every build. For ease of changing the air filter I would go with the 1.9 airbox. Fording capability never has been a huge concern for me. My intolerance for being cold and wet is usually far less than the capability of the jeeps and utvs I have driven. 😆
I think the round airbox will work and look better!
I think so too.
watching him welding is so satisfying
AWSOME video Donn!!!! Your fabrication skills get better with every video and it looks like the new plasma table is working out great!! Can’t wait to see what you do next.
Great Video, can't wait to see it running. Thanks.
Excellent work👍👍👍. Thanks for sharing
Привет из РОССИИ 👍👍👍👋
Very nice build. In my opinion use the 1.4 air filter box, it is sturdier and it can be sealed easily with the screws and a rubber gasket. P.S. I think that you should check the engine oil leak above the steering wheel pump. Keep up the good work
Those motor mounts are beautiful!

I was waiting so hard for this one. Awesome build!
Loving this build. 10:53 I would drill a larger hole through the tubing & weld in a bushing or pipe. So bolt doesn't crush thin wall tubing.
Encore de très belles pieces de fabriquer 😉
Awsome prodjekt. Pro tip, when you bolt thru a pipe like that, the pipe will deform and the bolt will come loose over time. You can easely fix that by making a bigger hole and weld a smale pipe thru..
Awesome build knowledge and skills Congratulations 👏 for the channel. Already waiting for the next video. I believe the air box from the 1.9 is your best option, it's easier to change the filter. By the way, a few years ago I've worked for the PSA group producing the Citroën Berlingo and the peugeot Partner, so somehow is nostalgic to me to see this.
I love your work. I can't wait to see you drive this beast.
Me neither!
I'd go with the 1.9. Bigger filter means more cleaner air available. Plus You're right, you need a snorkel!
Awesome as ever! Nice to see the CNC plasma come in handy now 👍🍻
That CNC is really great for sure. 🤘
I'll bet you don't waste a single usable scrap of steel. Any possible offcut may be usable later on in a different place on the rig. Good job, Donn!
Awesome build man, look like it's going to be a fun ride. Good job man👍🇨🇦
Look nice as hell my dude ! Keep up the amazing work !
With this CNC, you are unbeatable, congratulations
Nice welding first time i see a guy that build something and does a clean weld
Always look forward to seeing your weekly videos brother there awesome 🤩
Your technique is so good that it has been observed for a long time. (Even if I am still an expert in turning) also produces serious self-doubt.
I’m so envious of your fabrication skills. Your welding is excellent.
That's mostly the Fronius welder. 😀
@@DonnDIY They are a fantastic machine but too expensive for me. About AU$6,000 Australian dollars
Awesome work as always!
Wow i can tell you like using the plasma table..... the brackets look really good too ! Cheers as always from Sydney Australia. 🇦🇺🐨🦘🇦🇺
I really do. It gives a professional look to the parts and once the blueprint is perfect it's repeatable any time. Can't do it that easy by hand. Cheers from Estonia. 😉💪
Great video as always. Very inspiring.
Great video
Good work 👍
Keep up the good work, Donn.
Most youtube vids - play at x2.0. DonnDIY - play at x0.5! 😂 Excellent work dude!
🤣🤣🤣
Excelente trabajo,, espero siempre el próximo episodio,,,👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
20:33 I like the 1.9 filter box too. But I would base it more on which filter is easier to get. Ideally, I would prefer a simple lid without a hose on it. Both inlet & outlet would be on the mounted box. If you put the filter up high, on the end of the snorkel, than the lid only needs to seal to the filter. Example: base is tube with a long stud in the center of a flange, then round filter. Lid is a upside down bowl with a hole in center of bottom. Wingnut, done. Kind of like a air filter on top of a carburetor for a V8 hot rod.
Keep up the good work!
Great work
You give such great ideas!!! Now I need a shop and tools :) maybe one day. Thanks for sharing your talent!
If not now, when? 😉

@@DonnDIY So far, but close. I'am at Brasil.
Air box filter with snorkel capabilities for sure!
Good job Brow
Great job Donn, mighty fine work and how your engineering has come along !! I think you’ll do great without out any suggestions from me. Keep up the good work and videos, your channel is awesome and great entertainment to see how a person can really grow. Be safe, Fred. 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋
Thank you very much! I probed for car people's opinion since there might be some knowledge out there about car air filter boxes that I don't know about. KZhead and Internet in general is priceless that way - learning from people all over the world. It's just amazing.
Hey Donn, Another great video and thanks for sharing it. I do see another project in your future coming up, A bench mount or pedestal mount 2" X 60" belt sander 🤔 😀. Stay safe.
Belt sander is in my to-do list!😉
Super wykonane..From Poland...👍🇵🇱
Hyvää työtä! :)
Great job donn
This dry cutting device looks like a newer version of the one on MASTERMILO's Channel.
Good konten bro Engine mounts 4*4 installed
A suggestion Donn: put a protective shield plate behind the hitch to protect the diff housing. A dislodged trailer hitch on rough ground could easily smash a hole in there...
Great point! I'll keep that in mind!
Very good job
Hello, like a pro ! very good job.
Tylko czekam na następny odcinek, good luck!!
Excellent work , keep up the excellent work and content . From lockdown GB . 👍.

Very interesting, cool content!!
Good job brother, its nice....
good job!!!!
Video muito bem editado, tornando agradável assistir mesmo sendo longo. Dever ser mais difícil ficar editando o video do que contruir o carro. Parabéns pela iniciativa.

It is looking good great video
Pretty good!
Te está quedando una chulada de carro felicidades bro vas bien me gusta la plasma con esa máquina haces maravillas
everything fits like a glove
This is insane the amount of time it will take to fully weld everything.
