  • I love to stand in an old building and close my eyes and try to imagine the lives that journeyed within the walls. What were their lives like? Were they happy? What tragedies befell them?

  • I am heartsick when I see all the books in the abandoned castles and estates you visit. People have to just walk out and leave their things. Unfortunate and unexpected circumstances happen throughout life, and none of us is immune to the possibility of losing everything we treasure. Every day counts. We must be kind because every person we meet is carrying burdens we can't see.

    • Full of initiative, he changed the cobbler's awl for the weaver's shuttle [...]. Battista Lanzone and his brother Ferdinando […] first opened shoe shops in the Simone hamlet in 1865 […]. In ten years, thanks to uncommon activity and intelligence, the Lanzone shoemaker became one of the primary in the Biella area, earning the owners a fair share of capital. With this they abandoned the ancient craft and started weaving clothes. During the three-year period 1877-1879 they were in Vallemosso in Lorenzo Cartotto's own factory, then moving on to the much more important one owned by Mr. Antonio Galoppo, later bought by them. The company between the Lanzone, the Simons and Mr. Viola (relatives) and the two Lanzone remained in the ancient headquarters, about seven years later the Baptist left the Vallemosso to plant in Andorno the beautiful, well-disposed and well-organized wool mill that his son, his son, Mr. Eugenio then rented to the Simonetti Attilio & Figli company which still operates it today. Battista Lanzone, in addition to being a good wool industrialist, was also a willing, intelligent and expert administrator of public affairs as a municipal councilor of Pistolesa, first President of the Vallestrona Industrial Association, etc. He was also a very warm supporter of the (railway line) Biella - Novara, and if, one day or another, after about 30 years of struggles, the said railway leaves the newspaper to run on the ground in the interest of the economic future of the whole Biella area, it will be good to remember Gio. Battiata Lanzone, Antonio Borrino, Count Secco Suardo (Director of the "Awakening") the honorable Gio. Battista Serralunga and how many others (including the humble writer of these pages) faced the problem when the opponents called that line with the name of Biella - mental hospital"

These Castle here was owned by one old woman who married here from Slovakia - Gabriela Chotkova. Days after end of WW2, those holly cmunistic Partisan fighters came, took her of the wagon and shot her in the Woods ... for nothing, just cause she was rich. And this is how most of the castles and mansions in Slovenia look now. Whatever was in there was stolen, mostly by comunists. Later burned, roten away or sold to Austrians, Germans ... Did you know, in Slovenia in WW2 that lasted here 1941 - 1945 entire 67 Castles were burned down completely with everything inside by partisans - comunists ?

  • This family was very Catholic, they had crosses in the kitchen, artwork of two famous Catholic saints, Saint George and Saint Martin of Tours, a portrait of the Pope of their time and they even had their own chapel. The family looked like really nice people. It makes me feel sad to know they are not here anymore. All those memories, that huge mansion once filled with life and children running around is just a piece of history now. May their souls rest in peace.

Bidets, washers, chest freezer, decorative wood grain modern fridge.... also many light bulbs All are very modern. The water damage isn’t huge. I’d say this has been left for 30-40 years max.... The hats and photos are wonderful for dating timeline. The upstairs bathroom with green walls was probably 1930’s judging by the fixtures. Fabulous grand family home

All of the fabulous wooden furniture, even in the servants quarter’s, the magnificent staircase, the breathtaking leaded & stained glass windows & doors to the marvelous marble door arches & beautiful ceilings!!! It was all fairytale gorgeous!!! The flooring through out the home was timeless! It is such a waste to see all of these marvelous items going to decay 😞 I’m sure that it would take a multimillionaire to afford to restore & save this iconic property 😔 Before it is completely destroyed by decay, I wish that someone would save & restore it to it’s former glory 👍 Thank you Maureno & Rafael, for transporting me into a fantasy world that I could only dream about 🥰 You have made me sooo very happy today!!! I will remember this awesome adventure for years to come... my dream of Italy😍 I loved it❤️

  • I have found some information about the family that owns the mansion. The bald man with the white mustache in the photos is Ferdinando Lanzone. He lived between 1862 and 1923. He was a textile entrepreneur, founder of the Filatura Lanzone company in 1895. The dark-haired man with a large mustache who appears in other photographs is Giovanni Battista Lanzone, perhaps Ferdinando's father or older brother. He lived between 1839 and 1912. He was a shoemaker from 1865. Shortly after he became a textile entrepreneur, until 1889. Newspapers from the 1930s indicate that the mansion was inhabited by successors to Ferdinando after his death in 1923.

  • If you research you will probably find out it was taken by the government when someone died and no one in the family could pay the inheritance taxes. It happens many times in Italy . The large homes and estates are left to ruin because no one can afford the taxes and upkeep. the Italian government, unlike the French who encourage foreign investment, make it very difficult to reclaim and save these properties.

I'm guessing several kids who grew up here ownes it today, but they have their own lifes elsewhere. For one to buy out the other(s) and restore it to a living home, one would need a lot of money. I'm sure it's more tempting to buy a Ferrari and an apartment on the french riviera, as well as a ski lodge in the alps, and a sizeable home the place they're already settled down.
