  • The sport didn't pass Ronda by, the sport got a deeper talent pool. Ronda capitalized on a lack of competition while she could, plain and simple.

    • But then again she beat three of the fighters that beat Amanda Nunes in a combined 55 seconds and then beat Miesha twice easily, the same fighter that put Holly to sleep. It's not a matter of the sport evolving, it's a matter of Ronda making bad decisions and styles making fight. She never had easy competition, just Bethe, maybe.

      @WasWasLo@WasWasLo7 жыл бұрын
    • she beat meisha one time easily, 2nd time was a whole lot closer. 3rd time may have went far far worse for rousey. and styles make fights, that is what mma math does not work at all, ever!

I cannot stand when people make excuses for the poor behavior of other people. Manny Pacquiao beat many of his opponents but not one time did he ever ridicule or disrespect any of his opponents. And he was a far superior fighter than Ronda in 100 life times, but he simply was a person of better character overall. Enough of this Ronda B.S., it's over. Let's move on!

    • I usually agree with Rogan on most anything MMA related, but this is one of the times I disagree, and I'll say YOU are 100% correct here. The main problem people have with her is that she is so arrogant, dillusional and disrespectful of anyone not petting her ego. My wife and I considered Rousey our #1 fav female fighter and in the top 5 fav fighters period. In the ultimate fighter that they coached, we were livid when Miesha Tate said Rousey was a fake and she wished the fans could see the "real Rhonda". ......then we saw the real Rhonda. And I understand that editing manipulates things. But there has to be something to manipulate. They didn't even need to manipulate things because she handed it to them on a silver platter. Since then she has done it over and over and over again to multiple different people in multiple situations. THAT IS the "real" Rhonda Rousey. An arrogant, dillusional, immature, bullheaded to the point of stupidity, out of control, disrespectful person. She has SO MUCH potential, but she trashes it with her irrational arrogance and dillusions.

    • “Bright Shining Star” B.S.! Her early fights were setups. There were high level women MMA practitioners when Rousey started and before she started. They were not UFC fighters though. The UFC women’s competition was new. She could have fought Cris Cyborg and didn’t Rousey just insulted Cyborg. Finally Joe was one of the idiots that was saying she could beat men and she could beat Floyd Mayweather of all people. Rousey bought onto it because there was news about Mayweather and domestic violence and look who she married. Women do not have to act like men to be successful! Many fans did not like Rousey because she was rude and crude it was not because they’re losers or any of the other nonsense that was stated. Joe helped to create a monster and people are glad to see that she is gone!!!

There's a lot of fighters that also lost their belts and still get a lot of love, as long as they were acting respectful and could take loss with dignity. People can appreciate it when someone displays those universal values in sport. Ronda didn't.

    @laloriquelme3884@laloriquelme38847 жыл бұрын
    • I think its the effect that the ring walk has on the opponents. When Rousey walked into the ring (before her losses) her opponents were visibly afraid knowing how many women had quickly lost before them. They were preparing to lose before the fight started and this is where the similarity with Tyson came in. Fight or flight kicks in when your oppenent has finished their last 6 fight in the first round.

She scored a couple quick stoppages with striking and allowed it to become her first mode of attack instead of the judo/jiu jitsu that got her to where she was. Is some of that arrogance? Then she got Nunes, one of the GOATS and she lost horribly again. After that was time to work on her standup and get a team that actually told her what she needed to hear instead of stroking her ego. In the top of her career, she didn't have much competition. Her mom was like a pageant mom, but with wrestling, martial arts and othe physical activities. Regardless of whether or not rondha is fine with it now, she didn't have a choice. Her life wasn't her own and she was living out her mom's legacy. However, this is what gave her a performative edge. It's not that she's the greatest of all time or ever was. It's just the fact women like her are rare and she's at the bottom of that list. There are other fighters surfacing that make her look like the people she demolished. The only thing I don't respect about her is as soon as she wasn't the champ anymore, she gave up. She didn't live up to her own trash talk and buckled after defeat. It shows a spoiled brat.

  • I like what you said about the sport evolving. I've said similar things about boxing and this evolution is why I pick guys like Ali, Vitali K, Lewis, etc to be more than competitive if not victorious against guys like Louis and Marciano because the sport has evolved since the Marciano era and the shit that fighters could get away with back then, and the liberties they could take back then simply would not fly today. Boxers nowadays have a huge collective brain trust that wasn't yet written or crafted back in the old days. Sometimes we will get a throwback fighter like Arturo Gatti who are absolutely fan friendly, who can win a few titles in a couple of weight classes, but the throwback guys like him generally don't beat the top guys in the sport. I'm not saying they're bad fighters, but throwback styles already have an answer to them. Old school fighters are probably undoubtedly tougher than most new school fighters because life back then was harder, but being tough doesn't equal skills that pay the bills.

  • Wow!! Joe Rogan has some blind loyalty to Ronda Rousey. For a guy who calls in straight down the middle, he still needs to fess up and say it like it is. Love him or hate him but Chael Sonnen had the best analysis on Ronda Rousey. I know thats a bold statement coming from a guy like Chael Sonnen but I've always said Chael was a better analyzer than he was a fighter. Ronda Rousey was in a sport that was new and still is new compared to other established sports. Therefore, you couldn't compare her to other great athletes yet from other established sports. I believe the biggest mistake the UFC and tools like Dana White and Joe Rogan and other premature celebrators made were the actual mileage of the sport of UFC and its stars and the mileage of other sports and their stars. Ronda Rousey if you were to compare let's say to NBA was a George Miken or even toRoyce Gracie. She became the face of the Women's Bantamweight division which was created and probably no one expeced it to succeed and most importantly no worthy challenger was around and was able to beat girls that weren't on her competition level despite their background. Same with Royce Gracie and other Gracie members they try to prove Gracie Ju JItsu was the Ultimate but people caught on and they became a distant memory. So the Women's Division of MMA is still in it's infant stages although Ronda caused a spark but she's not the Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant or Lebron James Or Steph Curry, that remains to be seen and guys like Joe Rogan and Dana White whom represent the UFC should call it as it is and let it grow naturally although it's tempting to try and bank on their current stars but don't forget your current mileage.

    • Angelo Z. The fighters have become improved. Not just names changing. A good example is Middleweight. Anderson ran that shit for years. A few guys dropped out here and there but Bisping was around forever, so were Hendo, Vitor, Lyoto, and Shogun. Wiedman, Romero, and Rockhold were just kinda touching the surface. Anderson's leg turns to pudding and all of a sudden Weidman is beating guys Anderson would have beat, Rockhold beats him, and Bisping beats him. Now all these vets are getting fucked up by new fighters and somehow Bisping becomes champ by knocking out a young dude.

Martial arts being a career that tend to appeal to the average typical male psyche means more fighters attracted. So what you say is right. Men's mma on average is better. Less fighters = Less competition = Weaker champions. I do however have to say i do believe Shevchenko's division is definitely more skilled and talented than the men's heavy weight division and the Fly weight division.

  • Rhonda, like many athletes, forget what got them to the top and then a very subtle change in approach to training happens. Rhonda tried to fight their fight, forgetting she was a judo olympian.

    • Dick Fageroni Joe Rogan is not very intelligent. He just runs his mouth and makes a fool of himself. Rhonda was a textbook case of manic depressive disorder, as anyone who has studied abnormal psychology can testify. There's no other way anybody could be that and ecstatic, and then suddenly have a complete breakdown like that in their ability and their mental state, and exactly at the age that is indicated in the DSM.
