At the end was low oil pressure, the stock ECU is super permissive with this and the Syvecs ECU is super picky about that. The car now has a baffled sump and a sequential gearbox, so will see what happens next year. 😂
Is it normal for these to have only 2bar oil pressure at WOT?
@@tocsa120lsYeah that seems crazy low for me too. I would be expecting 4-6 bar?
Yeah is 2,5-2,75 emissions things… that’s why it has oil squirters and everything, they’ve taken everything in consideration. It uses 0w20 oil 😢

This car really deserves a 2nd chance, hope the owner can find out what made the engine cut off and comes back.
I'm just happy to know Bud Spencer is still alive and Misha was able to take him for a lap 👌💪💪
@@stoneehI’m his business partner … and actually we have made that joke quite often, he is Bud Spencer therefor I must be Terence Hill 😂😂🤦🏻♂️

Not really, it's a trash car in design and execution
It really deserves it, all it takes is that Misha pays for the repairs
Misha Charoudin, the scourge of passengers, weak brakes and tuned engines everywhere 😄😄
7:16 anybody else noticed the tachometer stick to 2k RPM on the downshift although car must have been doing closer to 6k??
Now I did, nice observation
Can be a so called ‘kilometer blocker’ they tend to rip the cluster up, like not showing speed, not showing rpm..
The crankshaft sensor is the problem
its probably cracked@@diegosilvestrechulo8418
I had NLTS (no lift to shift) in my Evo 8 back in 2009. Game changer for turbo cars.
Turbo 'manual' car
👍
There's a difference in just making power for bragging rights and properly sorting a car for the track (handling and cooling). Also not forgetting that a full lap of the ring is the equivalent to at least 5 laps of most other circuits by which time you'd do a cool down lap or two before heading back out on an open pitlane track day.
Yep! but watching this I am taking notes for my GR Corolla. I am seeing what the stock suspension does and the car isnt even near its limit and being a bit longer it should be even more stable at high speed than the yaris
Seems like it the ecu has trouble communicating with the engine speeds. 7:18 the rpm doesnt match engine speed.
No he hit the cruise control button so it went on map switching.
he also lost traction
Its bullshit. Its normal problem of a toyota mechanical rpm. Sometimes just error and stay 1 position a few second/minutes.
@@OriginalAbsolute The tune on my Honda has a feature where I can hit the cruise button (with cruise off) and it shows the AFR on the mechanical tack. If I didn't tell anyone they'd think it was broken, it goes all the way to the top when you let off the throttle!
Definitely looking forward to seeing Round 2 with this car 👍👍 The owner also seems like a hell of a nice guy 👍✌
He's a sweetie
3 cylinders with 430hp. Sound like a long lasting engine 😂
Fr man
But it's a Toyota
@@elliot438bcfcVTEC yes, but many proove on the web about the unreliability of this engine...too much power for this small cylinder...When you push it of course !!!
@@saabarch8951 yeah I wouldn't trust any modern engine like the old honda and toyota engines
@@saabarch8951 but it isn´t a small cylinder. It´s bigger than a cylinder of a Golf R. Would be a 2.1 Litre Machine as a 4 cylinder. There are some Yaris with 600-800hp.
More power? 400+ in a 3 cyl… hmmm, not sure. Maybe more handling, cooling, brakes and then power… Not a fan of overpowered engines before working on more important factors. There are many.
The original stock car is less. Still a good amount for a small car.
Nah. When you have a 3 cylinder car, the first thing you do is to throw that junk engine to the trash and get a good car
@@justboostit9508what is a good car in your opinion? V6, V8, V10 or V12?
The shop who built it should have done shakedown tests on the car and in the future upgrade the suspension it makes such a difference
Especialy with extensive changing of laterar Gs!
8:30 holy cow.. .that was a real moment to cross, i really hope that power steering and brakes works because it looks superstiff
Even if the owner did not have the chance to show off his gr baby he deserves bonus coolnes points for that knight rider t-shirt
One thing I've learnt from watching this show is to just leave the engine stock if you are going to drive it hard
Or do a simple map to make it perform better since many stock tunes are meh
@@daansiderius4283 OR just leave it stock. A lot of "maps" are junk. Stock tunes may *feel* meh, but 99.9% of the time they're not going to let you down or end your fun early.
Or think of upgrading the obvious ancillaries such as radiator, oil cooler, baffled sump. People seem to neglect these things just like they forget to remove loose items from car before going on track.
Upgrade the cooling, run a conservative tune, and be aggressive with maintenance and it can be better than stock.
It’s not true. There tons of tuned engines in this channel that performed brilliantly when the cooling and oiling were upgraded accordingly. Moreover, a lot of stock engines will just not survive track use without the above upgrades
One more argument for the low oil pressure theory: Both times after it died, with the first "restart" it does not ignite but only builds rpm and therefore oil pressure with the starter motor turning the engine. When you then start it the second time, it is right back because beforehand it could make sure that oil pressure is ok. At least thats what I would do as a failure / component protection if I would program those modern ECUs.
Does a Yaris GR really need 400bhp? Would rather have reliability and to push the engine hard. Hope the owner gets it sorted. Look forward to seeing it again Misha. 🤞
It accelerates slow for 430hp. However, that is probably too much for heavy load such as track day at Nürburgring. High power on dyno doesn't mean that it would be useful on track.
the gears are pretty long with the gr yaris to be fair
Great job Keep it up
He's a nice guy, some little kid shouted "it's the Racing Man" at him when he was seen in Cologne and he just laughed 😊
for a 1.8l I would go for 200-250hp depending on materials, not 450 if you want it to last 12-16000km at race conditions
it's 1.6 and it's 260hp stock...
This Yaris don't have 430hp for sure, so more like 330hp... Great car anyways, but I think this Yaris's with some chassis performance are great, but stock engine is better cause probably is good enough for 3 cylinder and this 1.6cc... It should be a problem when to try tuned the engine with this performance. I agree with some more power but not so much. It's owner confident 😂
Same thought, quiet slow for hp/weight ratio?
I wouldn't even estimate it at 300 hp and would have said it´s standard. At the very beginning, when Misha accelerates, it hardly moves. The time from 100-200km/h, as far as you could estimate it, was well over 10 seconds. With a Gen1 Mazdaspeed and 330PS I got just under 10.8 seconds. I can't imagine that a much smaller Yaris with a smaller engine would be so much slower. The all-wheel drive system can't weigh that much to destroy a 100hp difference like that.
I've seen so many GR's with 400hp+ that look quite slow and not much quicker than OEM.
I just looked up the Mazdaspeed from one of the last Videos. It managed the same speed to the bridge with 320hp.😅
@@Kommentiert_ exactly. Yaris engine just doesn't really perform when having more hp.
That flat foot shifting is quite confusing. You shift with the foot to the floor, alright, BUT the main point of FFS is to keep boost when you shift gear and as we can see here, it drops as you would shift in a traditional way. Nevertheless, great video as usual
given how the tuning is done it doesnt appear the tuner has much experience or width of perception how it all links up when you tune an engine, by the shoddy result here. Did it appear to you it has 400bhp ? Maybe crank and then somehow loses 100 going to the wheels given the performance.
For the owner: get a good remap on the ECU and deactivate Start Stop. The ECU allows a few "overboost" and if you dont "overboost" again it will delete those errors by itself. On track ist overboost all the time, so no time to delete those errors and the engine goes into safety mode
I loved that Escort, please Misha can you drive one of those old modified British Fords please!!
That tuned mk5 Escort was a sight to see. Didn't look like a cosworth thought it wasn't slow. Probably RS turbo if thats was still a thing or rs2000
I was thinking the same' definitely not a cosworth, rs2000's were available in that model year, however I suspect this may have had a zetec turbo or similar from how it was performing! 👌
Looks like issue with turbo boost should not be bouncing on full boost, possibly losing pressure, could be a hose or turbo caput
And that is why there are a lot of engine updates to the FL Yaris GR.
Good thing the first limp mode did not happen at swedish cross... not being able to feather the throttle over the cresy would have been catastrophic
One of my pet peeves with my GR Yaris is how temperamental the stock ECU is. Some days it feels strong and other days it's like it's missing a cylinder.
Well it always misses at least one cylinder imo 😂 they really should have went with a 4 banger instead of torturing a little 1.6 like that
... all GR Yaris are permanently missing one cylinder... LoL...
I have the same issue with my stock GR Yaris. Especially after cruising and then getting on it, the power only seems to become consistent after the 2nd go... Especially noticeable in 1st and 2nd gear.
@@kortgat Yeah it's definitely like driving a different car some days. It's like the ECU pulls a whole bunch of boost out whenever it decides to.
Check engine light comes on. People who only read half the manual: opens bonnet/hood, looks at engine, yupe, engine is still there.
Love his KITT shirt
Love that Knight Rider t-shirt!
How does ECU know that you flat shifting or rev matching? You can normally rev match and flat shift at the same time as seen in video how is it done?
Savagegesse made a video on the GR corolla and its cooling issues. They mentioned the low oil capacity of the 3 cylinder led to track oil temps of 290 F (143 C) with a stock set-up. I wonder what the car was running during this drive...
I don't know the conditions of that test. I got to see close to 140°C with my stock GRY on the Nürburgring after 3 all out, flat out, laps. The stock ECU will start pulling power at least after 130°C. I was loosing close to 10km/h going into Mutkurve for example. Oil cooler solved it for me. With a small one from airtec I can empty the fuel tank (5laps) without the oil touching 120°C. If your car is throwing a CEL every couple of kms you won't need to cool it down. You can also claim fantasy 430hp that it doesn't have 😅
We have a really big oil cooler there so no more than 120ºC are seen for the oil
@@GreatMotorsI've 320-30 bhp and just as quick.
@@grahamhaynes7658 4wd?
the gauge displays very low oil pressure on the second time.
The only car that doesn't need the CAE shifter. The factory stick is amazing...
I would argue, I really considering to get CAE, just cause you can adjust side to side movement limits with screws.
It changes the factory stick from a 9’to a solid 10 when used with the gearbox mount together
Add engine mounts and stock shifting becomes better than S2000
7:22 very interesting engine in general, does insane rpm jumps from 2k to like 6300 rpm in a second without a gear has been shifted, just by hitting the pedal, cool stuff
what is the shifting with full throttle? How do the RPMS go down? is it some feature of that gearbox or what? some semi automatic mode ?
Very small engine for preparation, I doubt it would last, but very fun car for twisty narrow roads like we have in Italy
its a pretty decent engine, some guys tuned it up to 700hp so 400hp shouldnt be a problem, theres something wrong deffinetly
Despite the power loss issues, I really like this car. Looked like it was pretty well balanced on the track and fun to drive. 😀
I gotta say the thumbnail always cracks me up and the best thing is it's very meme worthy as well😁
Looking forward to a successful lap with this.
The amount of times my Yaris has done this to me is giving me ptsd just from watching this video. You'll be driving WOT and then out of nowhere it'll cut power to near nothing. It happened to me going up a hill on a highway and I could barely make it up.
Me recuerda a mi lotus elise con motor toyota...siempre con check engine encendido 😅
Knight Rider shirt is lit
Right when we says he is having fun the Yaris betrays him 😂
I would say dude as on your way round it wasn't measuring rpm properly and occasionally it wouldn't start. That's a massive sign the crank sensor is on its way out
3 cylinder was never a good idea
Im amazed at his Kit from knight rider t shirt. Iykyk
I think 430 is generous but I could be wrong. Still, can not wait to drive one of these things
that escort flying
That thumbnail is perfect, "duhhhhh its ded" 🤣
Looked like fuel surge/starvation? If it won't start on the key keep moving and drop clutch in speed while still moving after key cycle on/off
Take it to 7mod. He has experience of tuning these cars properly and does everything on the stock ecu. Look up ROTHELI RACING. 7mod tuned rothelis and makes that kind of power. He also has a sequential and races his on track. It is faster then this too.. Throw that syvecs in the bin. 75% of the cars on it do not run right.
Need to overfill the oil by 1 liter , or you get oil surge under heavy braking
waiting for some one to bring a mitsubishi fto gpr R, a friend had a gr yaris at the time i had a mirage with the same FTO engine 2.0 mivec v6 as fto and he made the comment that the cylinders are nearly twice as big which is crazy but straight line speed was same same being mine was 900kg and super short gearing
so it has stock fuel tank without a surge tank or something? or a tank without a hydramat?
Really liking the man's t-shirt!
Damn I wanted to see what this modern "Evo" could do!
def the elevation change both parts are aggressive elevation changes.
Misha you talk about no lift shift, the manual 992 GT3's have this function!

I’d like to see you drive the GR Corolla that would be awesome to watch
That flat foot shifting looks bizarre 😂 fucking with my head a bit tbh, is it just a case of the ecu cutting throttle for a few milliseconds til the gear engages?
It just cuts spark and then you can put the next gear. When you lift the clutch it resumes to normal operation
its LOW OIL PRESSURE PROTECTION MODE, JUST LOOK AT THE GAUGES.
Absolute hype job these cars. Don't get me wrong they handle well but the power they make vs how it gets put down isn't all that

It's more fun to rev-match yourself, it's super satisfying when done perfectly imo.
yeah those cars are complicated because the wastegate is pressure controlled (not vacuum controlled) and they fluctuate a lot. We are working on a bigger turbo with an external electronic Turbosmart WG
430hp it's way to much for a 3 cylinder this equates to 140hp per cylinder 😮 even a Bugatti Veyron with 1500hp only has 93hp per cylinder 😳

A few months into 2024, still 3 months to go
I had one of them for a while before trading it in, for as cool as it is, it is still a small engine with a ton of hp harvested exclusively from boost, there are better cars out there IMHO
