You have no idea the level of hellfire fueled desolation blazed within my soul at the cape that read, "This is a cloak." No, no it is not. Without commiting a warcrime to make even the Canadians blush, a cape is a fashion piece, a cloak is utilitarian. Capes usually can only barely close in front of the person, usually hangs to around the waist, and often does not have a hood. Cloaks can wrap around the whole body, usually hang to the lower leg, and often had hoods since they served the same function as coats in modern times.
The thing is, Badlion calls them "Cloaks" - so I gotta deal with it.
omg he has to make another apology video now 😠

0:27 - One minor issue with this specific animation sequence: a llama (or alpaca, for that matter) will not spit at you and then "pronk" away. ("Pronking" is the term used for the exact style of running featured here, it's a playful, leaping romp as opposed to running from a perceived threat. Running from a threat would be faster, ears would be pinned back against the head for aerodynamics, head and neck in a roughly-straight forward line with the torso, following a zigzag path. The only time jumping would be done would be to clear an obstacle - and yes, they can actually get some significant air! They also lean into corners like a motorcycle rider does.) The More You Know 🌈🌟 I will, however, give them massive credit for animating "pronking" with such a high degree of accuracy! Someone has clearly done their research, they simply chose the wrong type of run to animate. That attention-to-detail deserves recognition.

I mean, Capes can be more common (given that Optifine or clients like Badlion have them als purchaseble cosmetics) Minecon capes are rare and still sort of a status Symbol...
I’d argue that if people are defining people’s worth by some arbitrary digital cosmetic, they should probably stop working on their builds and start working on themselves instead.
The only one doing that are seriously thinking that are ten year olds and hyper fixated mentally ill people.
We really do need more free capes anyways (but not overly excessive or in vast quantities) since not all of us are able, or even capable, of going to a minecon for a cape (examples: kids who's parents say No, or if the minecon event is held far across or outside the country they reside in). Mojang being more inclusive of its community by allowing a more broad group, or even the entirety of the playerbase, to have a chance of getting capes for free lately is a great move, as most players would never get the chance to get a cape as most of them are just KIDS, a fair majority of them being around 12 or so, and their parents would simply tell them NO if they ask to go to the minecon events that occasionally pop up, leaving them completely left out on a chance to get something cool/unique to add to their character. As for a "cape economy"...why does this even exist, it's just a cape, can't be bought, sold or marketed from what I'm aware of (outside of bedrock edition anyways, you can buy/sell capes on bedrock), so it's no major loss of any kind for capes to be distributed for free on special occasions (15 year anniversary), as these occasions should be rightfully accessible to ALL players around the world WITHOUT having to go to a certain location in the world to attend a celebration just to submit their minecraft name for a cape that only a few hundreds or few thousands (or tens or hundreds of thousands) will be able to obtain, leaving out a massive majority of the community. Sure, Phoenix may have used the wrong terms or words in the last video, but he still has a point.
well i think the bedrock edition way of buying capes makes sense, as each cape is more rare when you actually have to pay for it. but people really shouldn't care about everyone getting a cape if their capes aren't being given out and still are rare
@@daftish_birdman I mean yeah they should still be rare, but some events should still allow them to be fully accessible. Like having your common capes distributed as commemorative/global celebrations, then the rare capes from in person or contest events
Guys please, unless you play on bedrock, everyone has access to a free cape. Look up the mapmaker cape. Anyone with access to Java edition can work for this cape. I was determined to get a cape and I did. It was actually pretty simple. Any Java player has no excuse for not getting their own cape
The fact that people feel so strongly about capes(either side) is weird in the first place.
@@CommRichard you actually can get capes from events, last year you could get a cape for voting on the minecraft mob vote bedrock server

Honestly, I just realized that the migrator cape that, while it was a bribe for the playerbase to switch from Mojang to Microsoft, it is less of a migrator cape and more of a "You've been here for a while" cape. You've got capes for being at certain events, now you have a cape for being here before the account migration happened. I don't know the rules for the Vanilla cape but I *think* it involves owning both games or something.
Capes should be common so a casual player can have one, but some unique cape designs can be given out for something special and thus rare and cool, like the minecon capes
@@shibainu2528 the vanilla cape needs both a java and bedrock account attached together, I didn't know it existed until I owned both versions and it said I got a new cape.
The classic PhoenixSC apology video over the least controversial opinion known to man lol.
Capes should just be treated like Pokemon cards. Some are extremely rare and valuable, some are so common that everyone has one. If you have a rare one, then good for you! You have bragging rights! If you have a common one then that's still cool! In the end they're just cardboard rectangles with pretty colors on them, and capes are just digital rectangles with pretty colors on them.
I love how out of every mob in the game pheonix still managed to get blown up by a creeper
"Elitist?" Capes in the pre-Microsoft days were _rewards_ for people who attended Minecon or made significant contributions to the game. There was nothing "elite" about them, you didn't pay a premium to get one, it meant you were a community member who did something special worth recognition. Do you all really prefer Microsoft's style of basically never recognizing community members at all and maintaining this corporate distance from their players?
Almost Every Mob: FIGHTFIGHTFIGHT Camel: nah i'm gonna sit Polar Bear: *Polar Bear was sick of their bullsh*it*
I don't understand the whole "capes are ruined" POV. MineCon capes are still cool no matter what. Saying capes are ruined cuz everyone has one is like saying your giant cake is ruined because I have a cupcake. Also there shouldn't be an "economy" for capes (or usernames) in the first place.
i agree, i don't have any of the old capes so i don't see a point in people complaining i get a new one. hopefully they are still gonna give capes to people who vote in the mob vote, they did that last year and i didn't get one :,(
well spoken
Some people like to feel they're special, even for reasons that don't really matter.
There’s an economy for everything. Such is human nature
"there shouldn't be an economy for capes or usernames" nah thats just how it is even irl. It's the same reason why people wear overpriced designer clothes and buy fuckin Apple products. If everybody is cool, nobody is cool.
I don't think the cape economy was ruined, as capes have a subjective value. Some people determine the 'cape economy' as the total number of capes therefore the value of the cape is determined by the amount of total people who have a cape (which tbf didn't account for things like optifine). Others determine the 'cape economy' based on individual capes and the total number of capes that exist there. I personally believe in the latter, where some capes are more valuable than the others. The 2012 cape, I believe, has the fewest of all capes that could be given to regular players. This is probably the most valuable cape, more valuable than the 2016 cape. There is an entire underground market of minecraft account sellers, and capes are a really hot thing. Accounts that have older capes can legitimately go for a couple hundred to thousands. So my experience within this underground market tells me that the value of capes is relative to the number of individual capes possessed by people, and not the total number of capes that exist.
everything has a subjective value. the concept of value itself is subjective.
"I made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement, and I don't expect to be forgiven. I'm simply here to apologize."
I wish we had more capes in general
I don't feel like the cape economy is "ruined." It might mean that capes aren't valued as much anymore since a lot more people have them, but that can also be a good thing too. Because the newer capes are more common, it discourages account theft because one of the primary reasons for stealing is because of exclusive capes that only one account has. Plus, it gives more casual players who otherwise would not have had the chance to attend a Minecon to get a "slice of the cake" as well, so to speak. As someone who has experienced this firsthand, I appreciate that Mojang is allowing capes to become more accessible all types of players.
Cape accessibility doesn't change anything about the game, so there is no argument to be made for "everyone should be able to" here. Also the entire problem here isn't about capes being exclusive or not, it's about people being crazy enough to buy accounts for a irrelevant cosmetic. It's not just the og cape owner elitists, it's also the people caring so much about the capes to make it look like a bigger deal than it is.
a slice of the cape
There was a "Cape Economy" to begin with? You mean the thing in between those goblins who steal/hack OG account then resell on blackmarket for a liver?
The solution: Make capes customizable like banners (you can probably already customize them but I don't wanna do any texture pack chicanery)
People talking about a “cape economy”: Me with OptiFine cape:
They have a very good point honestly, the amount of people who legitimately got pissed off about minecraft giving away that migrator cape was ridiculous. Capes used to be seen as a status symbol because of how rare and "special" they were and that is elitism... elitism for a literal rectangle attached to your minecraft skin. And the worst part is that they got upset over literally nothing, the minecon capes are still unique and can still be viewed as a status symbol if you're so inclined. Really, what mojang should do is just make capes a part of your skin. That way they are fully customizable and you can make your own designs. Also for those not aware, the "cape economy" does exist in a form. There are huge markets for selling minecraft accounts, focused on usernames and capes.

Bro, why can't we just make our own capes? I mean, I get the idea of them being special being . . . you know, special. But what would you rather do? Spend almost a thousand dollars just to get to Minecon, which also has an entry fee, and BUY a thumbdrive for like, 20, maybe 30 dollars for a cape. Have more of them be freely accessible, but come out at a very slow pace, and still being possible to totally miss out on. Or be able to make it yourself for free. Make it WHATEVER you want. Have ready access to NEW capes almost DAILY. And some of the current ones are pretty simple, I could see that being made by ANYONE in the community. The only thing they've got is the fact these all come with a unique Elytra texture. But I'm 100% sure we could provide a means of making both the cape and Elytra texture in the same software. It'd take time, but still, it's very doable. And I'm tired of games having economies. I already paid 30 bucks out the ass, not considering OTHER platform versions I do own, to play a game that had none of that. A game of infinite creativity. Giving us free reign over cape PRODUCTION would absolutely bust the internet. In both good ways, and sometimes morally questionable ways, but still. It's not just a cape anymore. It can be a painting on your back. There is. An infinite amount of potential with that. Which is being kinda neglected . . . in a game about creativity.

Maybe I’m crazy, but isn’t the whole appeal of capes the fact that most people don’t have them
The appeal is their exclusivity in aesthetic, rather than just exclusivity in having a cape at all. The old minecon capes are still rare, so there's no reason to complain about new capes being too accesible
Personally since I found out you can only get capes during events which I can't attend most of the time, I also have a slight disdain to them... But at the same time, my being capeless does separate me from those that are caped and thus we have individuality. If everyone gets capes... It's all going to be the same. But in the end it's just a cape so I don't really wanna care much.

He said Grade-a so i guess doing better would be grade-s?
Well, it's a paradox. And not really
In the context, it’s not, but I see what you’re saying
Minecon Capes and other rare capes accounts are actually hacked quite a lot, doing something where you can get all those capes defeat the purpose of hacking them and defeats one of the reason of selling an expensive hacked account for a quick buck.
Your fine, just because some people are crying about not having capes and are irrationally mad at you about it doesn't mean you did anything wrong. Keep up the great videos!

Ngl I kinda always found capes to be a bit weird - most of them won't go with most skins, and since they can't be customised, they exist just as status symbol. Considering this, they do kinda loose their purpose if everyone gets one. Otherwise, just make capes part of skins so we can actually make them ourselves.
Lose not loose
people like them as a status symbol, it makes them worth flexing on a server, and maybe worth trying to get when a new one is dropped. putting effort in for a cool cosmetic is something minecraft wouldn't have a lot of otherwiwe, because you can draw your own skin so easily
I'd honestly endorse the route of custom capes. Either extend the dimensions or modify the arrangement of custom skin textures (again) to dedicate spots for a custom cape and elytra design. Change the cape options in the skin settings to "Off", "Official" and "Custom". People will still have the choice to care about capes, show off their event limited capes, and now get to accessorize even more. Just think how creative people could get: various long hairstyles, scarves that ripple, fantasy wings of their choice, sheathed weapons, backpacks -- *MOJANG, PLEASE.*

No gallons in 5 epsilons, fell on.
Minecraft has a cape called the mapmaker's cape. This cape is given to players who submit and have had approved a number of maps (depending on the type, but no less than 3) for Realms. You may have seen this cape on the backs of Xisumavoid and Sethbling. At the end of the guidelines form, which describes the rules one must follow to get their map approved, they stress that you should not submit maps with the end goal of obtaining the cape. And reading that made me think. Ok, if they don't want people to work towards this cape, what cape, then, could someone realistically earn? The other options seemed to be... spend hundreds of dollars to attend Minecon (as most of the Minecon capes required attendance), work for Mojang as an employee or bug moderator, or do some arbitrary act that happens to catch the attention of a Mojang employee. Between all of those, it seems like learning how to make Minecraft maps is the most widely accessible option. So I appreciate the presence of newer capes which are more accessible. I've always wanted something to warm my back.

Yeah, I do agree that the specialness of a cape is becoming less and less as they hand out more. Like I was happy to get my migrator and vanilla capes, but the novelty is wearing thin for getting capes just for being around.
@@eddiemate your old capes are just as rare, even if having a cape is less special, different types of capes are still cool
"Do better" just nullifies whatever you say
honestly, i don't mind capes being a thing more people can acquire. by and large, all capes are earned through some significant event - like afaik, no account that doesn't migrate from a mojang one gets the migrators cape, so even if there are a lot of them no new ones can be made anymore. that makes the migrators capes special, it marks you as one of the supporters during minecraft's most prolific era. it's not the cape model itself that's important as much as the specific design on that cape - them being so tough to get and usually corresponding to some real world event or activity gives them a special feeling that most items and cosmetics in games don't have anymore. i'll be pretty annoyed if they start just selling them, though.
I agree with what you said, I think that capes should be somewhat exclusive, otherwise it would just be a normal editable avatar feature. Not one given out to literally everyone. Sure, its a bit elitist, but exclusivity is just like that. They need to make the capes rare, you have to attend an event, migrate your account, or something like that. Giving it just because you are there takes off the charm of capes
Capes were implemented into the game by Notch as a special thank-you to people who were instrumental or at least very helpful to the development of Minecraft itself. Giving capes out to everybody absolutely takes away what makes them special. You might as well give everybody Deadmau5 ears too.
Give everybody the ability to be upside down like dinnerbone too, you're being too elitist.

But he just said that he DOESN'T agree with what he said in that video. Just because more people have a cape, doesn't mean the cape economy is ruined. It just means that there are a few particularly common capes, and the rest are super rare and special.
i'd understand the concern about capes if the old ones were being given out or something, but they still have their value. they're special because they're different from the ones tons of people have
