  • Danial Levy got to be the one to say the obvious. Well said! But don't forget that any given child has already reached the same conclusion.

    • The Europeans had a brief window in which their hyper-competitiveness and tribalism coincided with technological supremacy. It just so happened that in this historical moment, their main competitors, the Muslim states, had been savaged by the mongols and had lost their edge. Delighted to find that for one brief moment they weren’t at the bottom of the civilizational totem pole, they went insane.

  • This speech needs to be translated into Arabic. In my opinion, the humanist approach, especially by progressive jewish voices, is the correct way to heal Palestinian hearts, break this vicious cycle, and lead the way for both peoples to embrace each other.

    • So you haven't noticed that Israel has been massacring Palestinians since they arrived as refugees in 1947??? how do you not know this ??? Zionists want the total genocide of Palestinians not peace.

  • I really hate people morally pontificating. It's a subtle way of demonising elements within an audience's psyche - in this case, the 'Bomber' Harris part, if I can roughly put it like that. I'm sorry, but I'm ok with the Bomber Harris part of myself. Desperate situations bring out extreme reactions, and both the Jewish people's reactions and the Palestinian Arab's reactions have been extreme in this situation for over 150 years. In fact I should include the Christian and Muslim worlds in that too, because they indulged in extreme behaviour towards Jews from the beginning. It's not fundamentally relevant that Jewish persecution in Christendom was worse than in the Muslim world. What matters is that we recognise that the same force that impelled 1.5 million Jews to emigrate from Europe to America in the late nineteenth century, also drove Zionist Jewish nationalism, and it had to have been a very powerful force. It WAS very powerful. It was the force of European hatred of Jews, often expressed through murderous violence every bit as indiscriminate as anything seen in Gaza today. Yes, fearful, hopeful Jews migrated to Palestine over a seventy year period in greater and greater numbers, set on making a home for themselves there. Yes it made a high demand on indigenous Arabs. But the only other choices open to them were equally radical and desperate. I'm afraid Palestinian Muslims generally couldn't bring themselves to rise to the challenge of doing the big thing and making their peace with what was happening. It's true that it wasn't their fault - but it was the fault of the world they belonged to - and it was and still is, their problem which they've chosen to respond to with extreme violence. This has been the case since the 1920s. You only need to read Hamas's Charter to see what the real problem is. That Charter wants the whole of Palestine for Palestinians, not because they're indigenous to Palestine, but because Palestine was conquered by Islam around a thousand years ago and will therefore be claimed as an Islamic territory until Judgement Day. That's what the Charter says, and it's completely consistent with what Palestine's Islamic leaders said in the 1920s and every year since. Palestinian Muslims will only accept peace under Islamic rule, and Israeli Jews have no historic reason to trust Islamic rule. It's only ever given them subordinate status. Never full equality. Neither did Christendom offer them more than that. Our Christian and Islamic forefathers created this problem. Palestinian Muslims must stop blaming and demonising Israeli Jews for it. Even more importantly, self-righteous idealistic Western leftists must stop using justifiable Palestinian grievance to pursue their world revolution. It's shameful, self-indulgent, and abusive.

    • So what do you think as a person who does not morally pontificate we should do with the land theft of USA, Canada, NZ, South America and Australia. By your reasoning the European settlers should give the land back and go back to Europe or?

    • The Jews and the Arabs got along fine for the most part until the Zionists of the late 1940's showed up and began to ethnically cleanse the indigenous Arabs in their single-minded desire to create an exclusively Jewish ethnostate on the territory of an already existing people, the Palestinians, who, may I remind you, did not consent to share their land with someone else, much less an apartheid, segregationist ethnostate that was hellbent on expelling them.

    • @@odis.x As that is as you know a ridiculous suggestion. Here’s an idea all the colonised countries start rectifying the wrongs and treat indigenous ppl better. Admit what has happened and do better. Israel left its colonisation too late and they are particularly vile about it. If they had been even half decent they wouldn’t be so hated, but they didn’t so they are hated. Please don’t think I can list their atrocities I get banned if I try.

    • Israel is a US colonial project in the middle east. No matter how hard you try to spin this Israeli Palestinian conflict into a complicated web of intricacies to divert attention away from the fact that it's the US that's responsible for the tragedy that's happening in the middle east for the past 75 yrs
