    • Nadine Blake I think it’s comical that people take away from any kind act, and decide to bring up race in a comment that doesn’t mention race... seriously, no one cares. Racism goes both ways, yeah, but I feel like you should mention this if this comment fits into what racism is.

  • I commented on this story when it 1st came out so I’m not sure if this is the same one as it’s been a very long time and it popped up on my BBC. Greg and Marie were tenants of mine in Nevada where I managed and lived in a weekly/monthly motel. this story truly does represent the love and generosity that these 2 have for each other and others. I knew this couple for years. Watching their enormous personal daily struggle was not easy at times BUT I witnessed amazing things from them ALL THE TIME. At that time of my life living full time onsite alone, Greg was a constant comfort for me. He watched over the building as his own home. Marie would cook food (that wasn’t easy to come by) and the 2 of them would walk around where homeless people were known to be and feed them. I cannot tell you how much I’m thankful to have met this beautiful couple. I now live in another state and writing this bring emotion and a couple tears. I miss them and hope they see this. I miss and love you guys and pray you are safe.

I wish America was full of people like him - just more aware of the battles and worries and decisions they face. So many just want more money and people, animals, environment are nothing but to be used for personal profit. It has done so much harm.

Strange. You must have interesting stories to tell, like how you got off the streets. That would make a good book tbh.

    • Same! I got out of it and he’ll no there is not no help for homeless kids nor adults. If you get lucky and get in a shelter as a woman you risk being attacked in the night. Not worth it. Shelter hours also make it hard to hold down a job. They only let certain # of people in and check in is usually 4 pm. If you get a job you need to sleep on the street so you’re able to get to your job everyday.

It didn't make them racist, even if they were using racist language. It's not always that simple. People say and do things in anger, in resistance, in all kinds of ways that do not truly represent them as a person. Learn to be empathetic man.

    • I brought my son's homeless friend home for awhile. Early 30s, living in a drainage tunnel while working at Taco Bell. His mother lives in town, but I guess they didn't get along well. It only lasted 4 days. Sadly, it was just another person to clean up after, so I couldn't keep him sheltered. I'm too old and have mobility issues, and can't parent adults anymore. I have enough trouble supporting my own son for over a year who lost his job due to health issues. I can't even get him to take out the trash. Having someone who is exposed to the public on a regular basis during pandemic didn't seem like a wise idea. I don't even see my daughter and her family who live within walking distance. I so wanted to help him. Maybe I'll try again.

Projecting purity onto people is dangerous. When you find they are not - will compassion and benevolence end? Will we only help if people live up to our expectations?

I’ve successfully raised a young black man in this crazy society, I’ve traveled the world etc etc etc. untreated mental health conditions are a HUGE contributing factor to homelessness. I cannot tell you how many people I’ve met who were also homeless that struggled like myself with mental health issues. I’ve also been addicted to prescription pain pills and alcohol as a means to sooth my untreated mental health issues. This is a complex problem. Thank you for recognizing that we are in fact whole people.
