Keen very kindly let me have a poke around with the upcoming Signal Update 1.204 and I dragged Capac along for the ride. I'm very excited about this one as it's got something in it I've been wanting for a long while :)
Thanks to Keen for letting me show off some of this, especially the part about the lightning changes, I'm really happy with this as it'll be a big plus for new players :)

11 years later we finally got wifi
😂
Haha well they've had WiFi for a long time. Looks like this still uses the standard antenna. But the cool thing is all the stuff built into the controller.
You had wifi for as long as scripts existed but its more like you now have a block with the feature built in instead of having to resort to timers and programmable blocks which I am so happy to have because casual players have no easy way of doing wireless communication for more mundane tasks and this allows that. In any case If you see Splitsie's earlier survival series he uses script based wifi over antenna to do A TON of things in his bases he builds this just means instead of Programmer and timer block rigs youll see more Action Relays take the place of it because there far easier to use and diagnose. And they don't send scripts which declutters any server in the behind the scenes operation.
Again
For anyone not on the Steam version and for anyone who doesn't know about scripts, it's great that this is added. I hope they add some more to this too, or perhaps expand on the timer block system with more commands or logic gate type stuff to really let people do cool things on all the versions of the game :)
I’m feeling an anti theft system, someone rides off and you can just pop the wings off
remote self destruct!
@@kitsunekaze93 I was thinking the same thing
I was thinking something more violent
@@TheMrShinagami and a script that runs through all of the different possible codes :D
Why not a autopilot that enables when you activate remotely and flys it back to the base
So a cool idea I can see with these: Make a drone that's set to 'follow player' but have it turned off. Then, at the press of a button it can turn on this drone, and it should automatically head to the player. Add a button to the drone allowing you to send it back to base and you've got yourself an on-demand scrap offloader.
That's a great idea. I made a follow me drone recently and had this problem. Now if only we could transmit using the players radio we could have buttons on our hotbar too..
or a quick ride home if you crash your rover off a cliff...
I’m assuming Capac is completely unscripted. Pretty bold of Keen to allow that.
Capac runs on the official servers where scripts are disabled.
Capac is unable to be scripted, it's what makes him great, the love and frustration between splitsey and capac is so real. Miss tfe not being in This lol
I honestly wasn't sure how that conversation was going to go where I asked for Capa(g) to be allowed to join me :P
I think you mean Capag
Capac reminded me fully of my friend when we play games together.
"Hang on a second, I just have to make a planet" - Splitsie
Splitsie makes SE tutorials Many years pass Tutorials are now very outdated Splitsie decides to make new tutorials Splitsie hopes new tutorial will be accurate for a long time Keen: hold my beer
Keen: check out this guy thinking he can keep the players updated lets give him a challenge🤣🤣
Congrats to splitsie’s new CEO position of keen. on his first day removed lightning damage and added recall button to his murder drones
lol :D
Capac you better make a cheeseburger drone 🫵😭 8:31
so they added exactly what I was hoping for with the automation, the ability to send commands to a seperate grid.
Without having to muck about with remote controllers
@@DieyoungDiefast i always found it very anoying when I wanted to open a hangar door for example... having to go through 3 different menus
Yeah, the one button push/hot bar functionality is what will make drones much more useful. You can switch from offensive to defensive, order them to come back and dock or what have you. Also really helpful for some of the base stuff I like to do. (Docking bays with arms and clamps and things)
It's a really nice addition, something Steam players could do with scripts but now everyone can do it. Plus I think I'd prefer a relay than using a script if I only need to open a door/cycle and airlock :)
@@Splitsie The survival of this game (and later ones). It depends on many features being available on consoles. Good thing Keen knows that. Unfortunately I can't say the same about current modders, who only see the PC.
Splitsie trusted by Keen to bring us the news, exciting stuff!
Also I thought the rain was just Splitsie’s shed but realised this isn’t a stream.
Why Japan Government hasn't sent Capac back Home yet? Are they aware of the danger? Earthquakes, Tsunamis and even Godzilla are light compared... just say we miss him!
This has got me really excited for the next update. The Action Relay and those new doors, passage ways, and consoles all look awesome
I saw 'Compact Antenna' at one point, I'm curious about that too.
@@Triaxx2I think that might be the block in the thumbnail
And those windows too.
"Hang on a second, I just have to make a planet." is, without context, one of the greatest lines ever.
Honestly, the change to lightning is the best part of this update. Thank you for convincing Keen to change it!
I'm so happy that they listen, it may take a little while and need some not so subtle nudging but they did listen :)
The lightning change was a good idea glad keen implemented it
Agree, for a first time player, going blind and find out is painfull And doing things easily without going into some code too! That's a really good thing (like for elevator, or some of the said examples)
@@corentingoovaerts133 dude, i am a seasoned player, i i didn't like the fact that lighting could somehow destroy a solid steel block
Now no more lightning mod be gone..........sorry mod creator..
The new cosmetic blocks are really cool. The console seats/button panels are probably my favorite
They are really nice, I think with those in nearly all of my early favourite mods will have an equivalent vanilla/dlc version - except the pipes from Eikester's decoration pack, maybe we'll get an expansion of the narrow corridors that include conveyoring
What a great way to present updates, love it and...amazing to get a long range water feature sender
lol :D
"Do you want to come with me, or, do you want to stay with the explosives" "Hmmm.. {glances at the explosives} It's tempting..." Hilarious. :) Looking forward to the remote control stuff. I want to ship out drones to sit on asteroids so I can find out where the different ores are. Tagging the drones themselves with just a period for a name, and then being able to flick on or off particular detectors, where one ore is one channel, I can turn on what I need to find without always-on or going through my GPS list. I'll always find the closest, and most up to date, site for a specific ore.
Capac is back... his secret mission for her majesty is at an end again.
Early access to new content and making a difference to the game, way to go! So much potential for the new relay
Yeah… and the corridor was awesome too ;)
automatic self destruct: action relay set to reset timer on warhead every X seconds, ship goes out of range of antenna? explodes!
base loses power? explosion! ship loses power? explosion! that particular block is damaged? THAT'S RIGHT - EXPLOSION!
@@ukaszanioowski9722 this is both a completely valid reason to not do this, and also the exact reason I intended to do this
@@ukaszanioowski9722 if i can't have nice things no one will
I know that Splitsie is definitely gonna use these to setup his hanger doors to open for his fighter 😁
Great VIdeo, you deserve the recognition from Keen as you are the best Space engineers content Creator in youtube!!!!
Keen should Like and Subscribe 😂
New blocks! Name guessing: Bridge Consoles (at least 4 variants, 2 of which have seats) Plain Corridor (at least 3 variants) Claustrophobia Corridor (with door & shelf variants) Inset Lockers Framed Windows (at least 2 variants) Braced Catwalk Action Relay (Transponder) WiFi Antenna Also, the access panel decorations now have actions.
yes! I'm more excited about keen letting *you* show teasers than about the actual teaser! 😂
Ok this is an exciting update. We can do some crazy stuff with this.
Action Relays sound kind of neat, but as with the AI blocks, it's kind of annoying that you need a separate relay for every different action. Just makes otherwise compact designs bulkier.
Looks like it'll function similar to a timer block, so there's 90 actions that can execute at once (9x10 hotbars) with one transponder. It might have been nice for the transponder to have 10 channels each corresponding to a hotbar, so it can receive/execute up to 10 different sequences of 9 actions each, but at least the current functionality doesn't make the remote control block obsolete.
I wonder if you could make use the hot bar of a cockpit to change the channel, then send a signal, so only one relay is needed, at least to send signals?
@@StickJock819This would have been a nice way to do it. The way it is, an AI drone is going to need 2-4 more blocks for transponders. At least we get what looks like 100 channels.
Maybe not, you could use a relay to trigger a timer block and have that timer block perform the actions for you. Using timer blocks, relays, and the event controller, I can see a lot of potential here with AI as well as with normal use blocks. So, between a single timer block, a relay, and an event controller, you could potentially have 198 actions and since relays have to be setup in pairs that increases the number of actions to 288 actions. But the biggest reason for using the relays, no longer have to remote access a grid, depending on what you want to accomplish. The one thing that I do wonder about is whether or not relays have built in limited ranges or are their ranges dependent on your antenna range settings? I suspect that they are dependent on the antenna range, but still a question that I have.
Oh man... These blocks looks so cool... And I love how they work too.. Cheers for sharing a sneak peak! Excited to try this out! Would be great for my Inchworm Drill! Btw... Trans-Pond-er... LOL! 😂
Awesome that you got a preview of this stuff! There is sooo much stuff that we can easily do with this update!
With this and Keen's community post on KZhead and Steam, it seems that Splitsie has now been made the official Maker of Tutorials. I fully support this decision by Keen.
Congrats, I just saw that this video is actually on steam. Pretty cool!
really liking the new blocks, but something I really wish they'd add in is vanilla tank tracks and aircraft wheels and retractable wheels/struts etc... and flat hinges would be awesome thanks for the info video, Splitsie and I look forward to the next one 🙂
Have you seen Digit's Tank Track mod that was released just this past week? It is still on the front page of the Steam workshop. It's a really nice system for adding tracks to vehicles.
@@patrickheney9201 not had chance to try it out yet, but did download it, it looks really promising 🙂 hopefully that will pave the way for proper vanilla tracks too
You warned us about that pun. I thought I was prepared for that pun. I was, in fact, not prepared for that pun. Capag!!!
Thank you for sharing, I'm really looking forward to this. I cant wait to see the compact antenna!
The number of times I wished this existed! It could help in so many ways!
okay awesome you got to showcase this splitsie and Capag, love it !!!!!
Capag is like a long legged puppy on a slippery floor. enthusiastically unco-ordinated
I think it is so cool that you were able to work with Keen to get early access to show off some _real_ stuff coming soon as opposed to all the KZheadrs speculating about some kind of SE2 which doesn’t exist yet. Great job on this content and all your other content, @Splitsie! I hope you get to do more of these sneak peek type videos!
I was surprised when they said yes, I'd heard about the lightning change (given how much I'd pushed for it) and asked if I could share it and surprisingly they said yes (and yes to Capac being involved) :D
I love the thought of hardcore communications where the only way you can talk to other players is via sending signal messages that take time to travel across space.
I thought I recognized Capac in the news post on steam. Glad you’re getting the recognition you deserve!
Capac's definition of transponder is the best one I have heard.
Thanks for this sneak peek, can't wait to try the new stuff.
Since the automations update i wished for an action relay, even wrote a post on keen's suggestion site! I'm happy
Thats awesome! Love how you and the devs have that relationship too!
Very nice to see this functionality coming to the game for those who don't want to or can't use scripts! Always nice to have more options available for setting things up. Also some of the new blocks which were dotted around the map as you were exploring looked very nice and I can't wait to get my hands on them. The one down side to this is, I'm going to lose months of my life to the game again.
Now my friend can't complain when I use my 1ms autoclicker to simply *smite the mortal*
Looks like another great update. I'm looking forward to it. I can already think of a bunch of things I want to do with the action relays.
Ohh.. Now i want a challenge where Splitsie is on one planet and Capac on the other one. Both with a battleship grid in front of them with warheads inside the grid for the detonations. So when splitsie hits transponder E6 it either blows something up or misses.. Planet to planet Warhead battleships. :)
This will make the AGVs for my fighter production plant much more automated! It took me days to get it to work enough to the point where I only have to remote in once to access the timer for the AGV to move forward after it picks up the fighter from the printer. Then manually access it again to get it to return to parking. Now the only manual things I'll have to do with this new block doing all the remote work for me will be the overhead crane and delivery truck/trailer! Can't wait! Also great that we have the option for no lightning damage, was a nasty surprise for me when descending to Mars' surface and suddenly having a new skylight above the captain's chair!
That side-offset half-hatch is exactly what I need right now! You could put a half-stairs next to it for an extremely compact stairwell that looks good.
"Hold on a second, I just have to make a planet." No big thing. Not to mention the endless Capacisms. This new update does bring a plethora of possibilities... and I sense unintended Clang as a result of some of it.
This looks so cool, I am so glad I got back into playing recently.
I noticed a couple of other new things with this short preview, too. I think it'll be a really good one!
Capag is the life of every video. God bless him.
wow man keen really surpassed themselves with this one.. dreams come true
Congratulations Splitsie! Getting this news from you is really cool! At first I thought you were introducing a few mods for one of your series... Now I can have weather, too! Yay! The Action Relay (I hope that's what you said it's supposed to be called, as I only remembered "Trans-Ponder" - Thanks to CAPAG!) immediately lets me think "Burglar alarm", calling birds n rovers home. Even a ship lost in space could be sent to somewhere if certain conditions are met... Oh man I love Keen's updates! Thanks for this Splitsie!
This makes me quite excited for the next update. Especially the new secret hallway blocks with a small door integrated in one of them and the signal stuff.
Nice improvements, and useful to boot.
LOL, watching Capacs toon spin around wildly while Splitsie randomly changes the weather is pretty hilarious. Love the changes they've made especially the lightening.
I see the Skywarp is undergoing another major refit with these new functions 😂 an never endling refit!
Love this finally I can have a garage door remote 😁
Woohoo! Well done on the successful anti-lightning-damage-on-default-settings campaign! :D The signal blocks look great! It's something I wanted in SE for a long time. I can imagine having a single "control ship" to travel in and remotely control all other machines, and now it will be pretty easy to setup a sort of unified control scheme so you can manage everything with the same button setup. I wonder if it will be possible to use that system to remotely change button names too, so e.g. I could have a signal to ask a nearby machine to rename all my controls for me. It could also be great with some light scripting. One idea I have is to make enemy bases send a signal to nearby drones and ships when under attack, and scripting the ships to take a minute or two to fully "receive" that signal and react. The player would have some time to destroy the antenna / relay before the signal got through and reinforcements were called. Or it could be made so one MES base sends a signal to others nearby to spawn drones and send them to its location.
Bold way to show off new stuff keen
With how much I've been annoying them to make the lightning change, when I found out I asked if I could share it, surprisingly they said yes AND let Capac in on it :P
Now we need Capac In all Splitse tutorials :)
KEEN keeps delivering with those new blocks update after update and DLC after DLC. Super hyped for those half doors and passages^^ Thanks guys!
Now i can wake up whole drone swarm with single button. Good, good. :D
great video love the new stuff they gonna add also great to see Splitsie doing the teaser with Capac sadly we did not get to see the Slim Antenna that splitsie hoverd over quickly in G menu maybe for the next one :D
delightful. Splendiferous in every way... and lightening damage is done!
So the transponders are basically wireless timer blocks, i like them. They'd be so nice for turning off/on welding pits from the cockpit, now i don't need to get out of my ship, anything that lets me be lazy is okay in my book.
new desks, new hallway pieces, and fancy messenger feature? hell yeah
We gettong hyped for new update with this one 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
It's like having a garage button for your little ships
Lightning damage option is AWESOME. I was hoping they would add a way to detect weather and then have emergency pop up lightning rods and sirens in case of storms, but this is honestly such an easer approach.
The RBLF is Happy to see the Splitsie using Glorious Red Batteries!! 🎉 And yes, that battery is very happy! 😂
I was wondering when you'd notice what I did there ;)
This looks great. The "accept signal from" box strongly implies an "any" option. Few things I hope can be included or modded in: Signal embedding that allows arbitrary data to be sent on a signal, and signal scanning that can detect which channels have signals being sent. Imagine if the current configuration of a block could be written as a text string, an automation block of some kind (let's call it a respec block) could use that text string to overwrite a block on it's grid, and the transponder could receive that string and pass it to the respec block. You could do a full update to your drone fleets remotely.
He also saw a new door block and some corridor blocks.
You know what could be kinda cool? lightning rods AND a way to harness power from lightning hitting them, now storms could be a good thing.
Transponders are my new favorite dad joke, thanks Capac.
Neat, now my spaceship can have a garage door opener built in to it.
Is it bad that I instantly understood and even laughed at Capac's "trans-pond-er" joke...? 🙄 I'm giddy at seeing the newest update. I've been considering the features and limitations of orbital satellites in SE for months now, and this could really open up some possibilities... and the new desk models will really spruce up my ship bridges and control rooms.
Really cool things ! i like the windows and corridors !
I'm so excited for this, from the half hallway blocks to the bridge control panels / terminals, but mostly about the remote connections, my only concern is the limited amount of channels.
This format gave me such flashbacks to Yoglabs... Update looks awesome though so many possibilities!
You guys remind me of two characters from a great show called Apple 🍎 & Onion 🌰. You have that chemistry.
Oooooh, transponders sound fun. Being able to do things on the fly, before I get back to back sounds fun.
Love the content splitsie❤
SUPER excited for this update. One thing not shown, what is the upper limit on the 'transponder' channel numbers? EDIT: at least as far as the sneak peek you were given
I'm excited for this.
Wow, oh wow! This was just so funny! And informative, can't wait to see all the new stuff when the update comes out, but more so, I can't wait to see what you guys do with it!! So, keep up the good work and when Capac gets back you need to make sure he builds a trans-pond-er vessel.
Or a cruiser ship with a pool.
I think you mean when capag gets back 😜
I was low-key expecting one of those buttons to "accidentally" cause BLAMMO 😆 Great changes though.
liking that small large grid door
Thanks for putting together that sneak peek Splitsie and Capac :) - Your Survival Impossible series immediately sprang to mind when you demonstrated the new Event Relays -> The pop-up connector (for Manny?) and the grinder shed doors! The half-wide corridors and related blocks will add a bit more flexibility to some builds. Looking forward to seeing the other bits and bobs Keen (PL, not GmbH!) have added whenever the update and DLC drops. If the adjustment to Lightning damage is in no small part due to your lobbying: well done! 🍻
Yea, those blocks are legit nice & kind of futuristic i'm probably going to play this update :D
It was so fun when it rained and It felt like Zues had a bone to pick with me every single time and lighting bolted whatever I had
I get more excited with each update! I really love utilizing the weather but when lightning can destroy an underground base i stopped using it...alas no more lightning damage! And really love the new cosmetic blocks.
Really useful video!
Congratulations on becoming Keen's official prefered creator. A lot of us refer to you as SE jesus.
Nice work sir
Can see a lot of potential applications for the action relay/transponder. Including, potentially, a different way of remotely controlling vehicles, particularly ones that are designed to travel a set path.
