Russia can't replenish the heavy materiel they lose, and the Russian side is also losing people at such a greater rate that they will run out of manpower before Ukraine will, despite the population difference. But what is more important is that this war will never come down to population, it's not that type of war. It will come down to heavy materiel, and Ukraine will never lose that fight.

The Russian meaning of attrition in this war seems to be to smash towns, schools, hospitals, mainly based on buildings, wiping out the opportunity to use cities and towns by total destruction; by gradual process, whereas the Ukrainians are going more for knocking out troops, military equipment, supply dumps, communications which makes perfect sense for Ukraine. The AVM is quite right, the Ukrainians cannot afford the Russian equivalent of attrition, they need the towns and cities and factories, to rebuild, once the Russians are kicked out.
