There is nothing like the intensity of lion dynamics in the African bush. This video shows what goes on when young nomadic male lions enter into unknown territory.

27-year-old, owner of South Post Lodge, Steyn Jacobsohn witnessed an incredible fight for survival in the Mjejane Game Reserve on the 18th of July. This display of survival of the fittest carried on for almost 3 hours! 3 Lions were attacking 1 male lion in a dual of trespasser elimination!
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
We caught up with Steyn and he shared his experience with LatestSightings.com:
“I started a drive with guests and got an update of 3 big male lions that were walking on the road, so I responded to them and got them on the road walking in front of our Open Safari Vehicle, they were on a mission! They disappeared quickly but we managed to relocate them at the dam where they were busy drinking, from there they were up again and running, sniffing, marking in the area so I told my guests that the lions were looking for something and that it was not food, maybe a lion in their territory.”
“I was sure that this was the best sighting we would have for the day so we continued on our way to get a coffee at the coffee shop. The next moment all hell broke loose! While having coffee, we saw 3 big male lions chasing a young male and we could tell that the situation was getting even more intense as they chased through a herd of elephants. Startled by the chaos, the elephants responded by chasing the lions as they broke through an opening and each could split into their own different directions.”
“For about 5 minutes, things were quiet, and then a big fight started between the male lions right opposite us, on the other side of the dam. The fight lasted a whole of almost 3 hours as the 3 adult males kept returning to the injured and tired young male, biting and clawing at him. The elephants and hippos attempted to chase the 3 male lions away each time they returned, almost as if they were protecting the young male from a fatal end. Unfortunately, fate was not in the young males' favor as the adult males returned one last time, finished the job, and then left for good.”
“The young male lion was left badly injured, with a broken back and later succumbed to its injuries. He then became a meal for vultures who later joined the scene.”
“We were all excited and sad at the same time, being able to witness the strength of a lion and seeing just how fearless they are. This was a first for me, you don’t always realize to the full extent, how wild it gets out in the bushveld until something like this happens.”

    • Most likely prior to the recording of this video, the dominant males had already initiated the attack on the sole lion and were momentarily scared off by either the elephants and/or hippos. The hind part of the young lion was already destroyed preventing it from leaving the area when the dominant males returned again (the start of this video) to finish what they started. When male lions outnumber or corner a rival male, those attacks are relentless and go on for hours as the lions take turns dismembering the threat. It's especially terrifying from a male perspective (human or otherwise) when you consider the dominant males intentionally target the male sex organ of the lion being attacked mercilessly.

    • @ Cecilia Bergmann: Compassion and fairness are human characteristics and part of what separates us from animals. Humans have a soul, so we know there is something after death. The only way animals have a chance to "live on" is to pass their genes to the next generation. Their instinct to reproduce is so strong that they will risk death, as this video demonstrates. This poor young boy was part of a coalition of 6 nomadic lions who would've done the same to any of the 3 resident males had the tables been turned. Furthermore, they would've killed all of the cubs to make the females go into heat so they could sire their own legacy. This is the natural order of the animal kingdom so that the strongest, fiercest, and luckiest, competitors live to pass their genes on to keep the species strong.

The lions that killed this one will most likely face the same end through another coalition of lions once they are older and weaker. This young one and his gang came into another coalition's territory for take over, but he got isolated from the gang and the current rulers of the territory mauled him.

    • There’s no make yourself at home. Young or older nomads must always venture into another lions territory looking and waiting for the right opportunity whilst trying to avoid the dominant males. You might have noticed that there’s not really many available areas for lions, so this is how it works. There’s a reason why the nomadic life is so tough on them. Most lions won’t survive this hard time. It’s not exactly easy trying to survive amongst constant danger. Just imagine hunting whilst having to keep a low profile. Those sounds will attract unwanted attention. Too many lion meet their fate the same way this male did. It is absolutely heartbreaking to witness. The brutality of nature is something else, and after following lions for more than a decade it never gets easier to see how brutal it actually is. I don’t know if he was part of a coalition, but if he was I hope they managed to avoid any conflicts with the territorial males.
