A herd of elephants rescue a leopard from two lionesses that climb a tree and fight him for his hard-earned prize.
FJ Mammes, Head guide at Sabi Sand Nature Reserve shared his footage of this sighting with LatestSightings.com
"We had been tracking a cheetah for some time, following tracks in the sand. When a call came through on the radio that a male leopard had just been spotted. It was the Ravenscourt male. We immediately aborted our cheetah tracking and headed in the direction of the leopard."
"As we were on our way there another call came through on the radio that he killed an impala. In our pursuit of catching a glimpse of the leopard, we were distracted by the sight of two lionesses. And it looked as if though they were heading in the same direction as us."
Sometimes lionesses take advantage of the meals hunted by other predators like leopards. When these clever lionesses spot a leopard who has worked hard to catch its prey. They use their strong and powerful bodies to intimidate the leopard and quickly claim the meal as their own.
"We just got to the sighting and before we knew it the lionesses were there too. One of them climbed the tree in a hurry and in doing so caused the leopard to drop its meal. The other lioness grabbed the kill off the floor and ran off, whilst the first lioness began attacking the leopard."
"Just when we thought it could not escalate any further, a herd of elephants appeared out of the thickets. Clearly not happy with all the commotion disturbing their day. The elephants began trumpeting which in turn caused the lioness in the tree to flee."
"The elephants continued their pursuit of the lioness, which gave the leopard a window to escape and he too jumped out of the tree and ran off. Leaving us in awe of what had just transpired."
Elephants sometimes chase off lions as they feel threatened by their presence. When they see lions, they trumpet loudly to warn them and show that they mean business. The lions, being smaller and less powerful, get scared and run away. Elephants are protective and want to keep their loved ones safe, so they use their size and strength to intimidate the lions and make sure they stay far away.

Lioness heard boss music when elephants came which gave her the extra motivation to get off of the tree
I've never seen a lion or lioness ever get that far up a tree..amazing and terrifying. Crazy footage!
They shake monkey's off the trees too
I was surprised 😮 to see a lion that up far in a tree
Proper motivation. A chance to end one of your mortal enemies.
Lioness can but lions can't
Iomkym
Lions actually have little trouble going up a tree. It's the getting back down again that they struggle with. Which is why they generally avoid making the climb.
Same with our cat. It starts crying for us after being chased up our tree by enemy cat.

The Elephants unexpectedly saved the leopard 🐆’s life. They are true Heros 😊!
Mate that lion was never going to get that leopard. Leopards have incredibly sharp claws that can rend your face. If anything the Lioness saved itself by leaving that tree.
The elephant didn't give a F about the leopard , he just saw a lion on his territory and took action
Elephant is the real king of the jungle 😂

Leopard was lucky to lose its meal instead of its life. Also, it was pretty cool and unexpected for the elephants 🐘 to save the leopard.
It wa snever in jeopardy of that.
Elephants have way more beef with Lions than Leopards... Elephants dont need much of an excuse to make lions lives harder 👌🏻
And yeah tbh that Leopard wasnt in much danger... the female was more likely to fall if it kept pushing it. Would kill a lion if she landed from there awkwardly.
The leopard can actually fight off and probably even kill a lion. It just chooses not to for whatever reason. I watched a vid where a small leopard fought off a lion and lioness at the same time.

Lions to Leopard: "Do you know where you at, fool?" Elephants to Lions: "Naw, do YOU know where YOU at???" Lions: "Understandable. Have a nice day."
Lesson for life: don’t ever hide from a lion on a tree
I think u can but u must have something in your hand ( a stick or something like that) to hit it or poke it with. I believe that might work coz a lion is not as agile upside a tree.
Then where to hide in open field like that
But it works, the leopard lived to see another day! 😂
Best think is to jump into water if there is no crocodile or hippo. Lions have an aversion to water
But isn't it what saved the leopard? 😅

The thorn berries. Nice punch line. I get it. Stay safe.
very sad to see that leopard is not safe in the trees......imagine what the cheetahs facing in savannah
At least they can run
It is not that sad, it's still alive lol! As for Cheetahs, yeah that's the sad one, they get mauled by both leopards and lions if they fail to pay attention to their surroundings. Otherwise, no predator has a chance in the open savannahs to catch them (and they try) !
yeah even the hyenas are chasing them off kills. f for respects
Their special skill of speed has served them well. Good luck trying to chase down a cheetah with room to run.
@@Xosidhethey can't though. They live because the heftier cousins allow them. A cheetah needs 5 minutes to catch its breath after hunting, and over 15 to reasonably recuperate. Lions, hyenas and leopards drive them off and often do not chase. Their kills are better than killing them. Dudes use hide gloves and overalls when catching cheetahs. They are properly weak cats. The mouth is only good on the backs of vulnerable smaller animals.

The part where the lion didn't know how to get down so it gets upset and tries to take it out on the leopard. 🤦🏾♂️🤣🤣🤣
Ruthless and overskilked lioness....The drive of lions is truly amazing and inspiring!!😮
The thing that amazes me the most is how more people aren't killed by wildlife. That lion just run up and also jumped down from a tree. Surely she could've ran and jumped into one of these trucks and clawed someone's throat out before they'd even think to react.
They are smart enough to know that they would be killed afterward. They also don't see human as a desirable prey, it would seem we look ugly and don't look very appetising to them.

Lion has virtually no chance fighting a leopard who has the catbird seat in a tree 😂 leopards are more agile, weigh less and understand the tree better than lions.
Nature is absolutely savage
Lion: "i' m the king of the muddarfruckci' jungle!" Elephant: "what's up"?
Lions don't mess with hippos either.
You would think that the leopard would have a distinctive advantage being up in the tree, but that persistent lioness is hangry enough for the task at hand!!!!!!
She’s funny, looked around for the easy way down, then decided to make a scenes again 😃
This is a shock to me; I never thought lions could climb this high up on a tree!
It's a subadult lioness so not as heavy. She also comes from a line of good climbers.
0:06 the monkey falling down be like "let me get on another tree and have a good view" 😅
It’s actually wild to me how many times elephants have inadvertently saved predators, they especially hate when Male Lions fight and Hyenas clans fight and often scare them all into running away from each other, essentially saving their lives
0:38 its like the lioness realizes how high she is in a tree and gets even more angry at the leopard and proceeds to commit now that its 30feet in the air
Leopard didn't need saving. The leopard had the fighting advantage while in the tree. The lion almost fell a couple of times.
These are the 2 Othawa subadult lionesses ( the descendents of the famous Mapogo Coalition ), they just turned 2yo in march this year and they went through absolute hell, who followed them from last year to now saw the absolute best and absolute worst of lion dynamics, drama and plot twist after plot twist worth a full length documentary. Without getting in any of the specifics or the "poetic" part of the tragedy, they had 3 fathers, 3 mothers, and 4 siblings, all now dead, with the exception of one nomadic father. They became orphans in an insane series of tragedies and went to survive in their own for almost a year now, but they need 2 more to be old enough to be accepted by male lions and mate, hopefully rebuilding the pride.
All I can think of is "POLICIA POLICIA VAMOSSSS" 😂
I've seen lions and lionesses so focused on trying to get something out of the tree that by the time they get to the top they don't know how to get down and sometimes fall off causing fatal injuries.

Once again, the good nature, great instincts, and incredible intelligence of the elephants 🐘 was in charge to save the life of a leopard. Elephants are incredibly creatures, the greatest creation from God in this world. Their intelligence surpass that of any humans and other animals as well. Elephants have my utmost respect and love for being excellent animals who are family oriented, and for their amazing attitude and intuition they possess. Brilliantly done by elephants, love them all. God bless and protect them all from the evil poachers. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️❤️❤️🐘🐘🐘🙏👏👏👍👍🙌🙌
They might be smart but to say they are smarter than any human is a big stretch. I might be biased but I can't see how you can say the elephant is a greater creation of god over humans. They are nice animals and all but seriously they aren't even close to humans. It is sad about the poaching though. Killing them for food I could understand but just for their tusks or sport is wrong.
Elephants are wonderful, but claiming they are more intelligent than humans is going too far.

Truly the Beast Wars!
Unless they shrink leopards will still be decently safe. Yes lions *can* climb trees but due to their size they can't get as high, nor are they as agile.
@@Shark_Toothed_Therapod that's true but they're getting better at climbing trees. And their Cubs are watching, and that means that once the Cubs start climbing trees at a very tender age, then they'll perfect it as they grow older. So no, the leopard may not be very safe as you think

They elephants didn’t “save” the leopard they merely just interrupted 🤪
Whether intentionally or not, the elephant's did in fact save the leopard.
In other words, they saved he leopard. It doesn't have to be intentional. The outcome is what's important. The elephants saved the leopard from certain death if it the lioness had gotten a hold of it.
He cant get down so hes pissed at the leopard 😂
Just like most cat kinds including domestic cats, lions can climb up the trees but they can't climb down. Leopard, however, can climb up and down the trees. This is due to the structure of their claws. You can see how the lioness tried to climb down once the meat went down, but she just couldn't. So instead she decided to fight the leopard because she didn't have better things to do lol
