don’t know if someone can fact-check this, but the rumors of Gonzaga leaving the WCC for the Big-12 are rising up again. college sports are a shell of what it was in 2024 but whatever happens, THIS particular rivalry HAS to be protected at ALL costs. Oregon State and Washington State join the WCC next year, would like to see how they do in a top heavy conference

Mitchell Saxen 19 pts 15 boards. Mahaney 23. Forbes and Augustas M doing their thing. The school has 2200 students and they play like this. Pretty amazing. Those 8 games from the start of the season are in the past. This is a different racehorse now.
the gonzaga we all know and love is back again. No high major recruits in the top 100 for next season. They will go back to being just a really good mid major and nothing else
Honestly feels like how they are this year, just like a really good mountain west team. You don’t get the same vibe as the old gonzaga teams. They could still make a run for sure, but aren’t the same Lost to San Diego state already this year, and st Mary’s who’s pretty even to them also lost to two mw teams.
@@cd2_ st mary's is always a poorman's gonzaga and they recruit generally a similar demographic. I was surprised when Gonzaga was getting top recruits but not this year. we will see what the future holds. A chip would go a long way. Did wonders for Baylor
They still have a chance in the transfer portal but yes recruit wise they aren’t looking great.
@@molon___labe i mean it doesn't help that they are in the middle of nowhere without any other good sports programs. I mean even Dook's bball program has been able to open doors and lift their other sports to become relevant. The problem with gonzaga compared to other schools is that other schools have other very attractive areas and are big names even if they aren't great at basketball

My coach was a hall of famer and great defensive coach ,he would have been outraged by Gonzaga s out of position can't stay home defense!
Hope both the Zags and Gaels go well in the Tourney. Both Gaels front and back court dominated. Key stats in favour of Gaels: 3 pters: 6/15 vs 2/11 Rebounds: 45 to 23 including 17 offensive boards - Zags had 17 defensive boards themselves which indicates how hard the Gaels were crashing the glass.

I would agree but without Jefferson I don’t think they are deep enough to make a deep run definitely could see a sweet 16 run though. Just can’t go deep with only playing 6 guys.

I knew Saint Mary's would win this game. Gonzaga is down this season. Ryan Nembhard isn't a winning player. He proved at Creighton that he loses the big games. Granted, Creighton was cheated out of a Final Four and an all-Big East national championship game last season because the refs allowed San Diego State to play gangsta ball while swallowing their whistles, but Nembhard was part of the problem at Creighton. Not the PG I would want running the offense

Accurate statement, guard play is horrible and the zags are even worse in switch ups on defense, but much respect for st. Mary they looked really confident and cohesive

This just in. Joe Lunardi moves St. Marys up to a number one seed. Gonzaga drops to a two seed. He might as well with how ridiculously overrated and overseeded these two are, and every year. They both get abused in non-conference and they play a bunch of high school teams in their conference, as usual, win a dozen games by 20 or 30 points and get rewarded for it and hear how great they are now playing. Then they get credit for beating each other. While teams in conferences like the American or A 10, which are monumentally better conferences, get completely and ridiculously snubbed. College Basketball is getting more and more like college football. This has been happening with Gonzaga for twenty years.
The fact that Lunardi has Gonzaga a six seed, even after this game, and st. marys a seven, is a joke, when you have teams like Memphis, Indiana St., SMU, VCU, Loyola Chicago and South Florida out and FAU as a nine seed, below these two. How ridiculous. These lunardi's of the world get paid off.

@@rp5564 At least Lunardi never screwed up the seeding with Purdue and Virgnia. They've been in such good conferences that they LOSE to a 16 seed. They should try playing in the WCC.
Richmond too. Richmond won the A10 regular season and Dayton finished 3rd yet somehow Richmond has no chance at an large while Dayton is projected to be an 8th seed
Are you serious. The WCC is the worst conference in the country and has been for 20 years. It has about six high school teams. Gonzaga starts the season with a 12-0 record every year before the season even starts. It is a joke.
