There is an argument to be made that Mario Chalmers' shot in the 2008 National Championship is the most important clutch shot in NCAA Tournament history. 7:02 1) It happened it the championship game, so that makes it automatically more important than all other clutch shots that happened in earlier rounds of the tournament. 2) Two other shots that happened in the championship game were Jenkins shot to win against UNC and Charles dunk of the airball to lift NC State over Houston. Those were game winners, but in both cases the games were tied when those shots went in. Had Jenkins missed or Charles missed those games go into overtime. If Chalmers misses his shot the game is over and Memphis wins the title. 3) It was found out a few months later that Memphis had an ineligible player on its team and had to vacate all their wins from that season. Had they won the title they would've had to vacate that as well. Not only did Chalmers' shot prevent Kansas from losing by sending the game into overtime, but it also prevented there from being no champion whatsoever as the championship does not go to the runner up. There just would've been no champion for that season, making the season kind of pointless. This is just an opinion however and if you have a different one it's fine.
