1970 Dodge Challenger Full Rebuild in Minutes!

2020 ж. 14 Қаз.

This Mopar is in serious need of a sandblaster! Also, they'll go for a spin in one of the most famous Mopars of all time.
Detroit Muscle goes on the hunt for Project Ultra Violet...a 1970 Challenger. The team salvages a rotted out '70 Challenger and shows how-to weld in a new metal roof, drip rails, and A-pillars. Chassis guru Jeff Schwartz brings in his G-Machine chassis to convert the uni-body Challenger to a full-frame. Then, the team grafts a low deck, all-aluminum Hemi, and T56 six-speed gearbox into the '70 Challenger resto-mod.
Next, celebrity builder Chris Ryan shows how-to lay down metallic paint and graphics on the very purple Challenger and the team fabs a high flow EFI fuel system, serpentine belt drive, and dual-fan cooling system for '70 Hemi Challenger.

I was lucky to have had a few Mopars in my youth...73 Charger 318 $1400. 73 Challenger 340 $500. 69 RR 383 $2400. 74 Gold Duster 225 $free. 69.5 Super Bee 413 $900. • These are usually done for very wealthy clients, car collectors and such. They find and buy these broken down antiques and pay car restaurateurs an incredible amount of money. If I had to judge this one off-hand, I'd say the guys asked at least 500k for it. Probably even more - there's restorations that can cost into the millions, because parts have to be custom made or found, since they aren't manufactured anymore. It mostly depends on how the parts can be sourced and how much work has to go into the car.

      @JRexRegis@JRexRegis Жыл бұрын
    • 500k? Idk about that.. it's more like 150k still super expensive but not 500k lol alot of the parts are reused and the biggest expense is the chassy and engine and transmission. The seats and wheels and other stuff isn't to bad to find or make. They probably spend about 30-40k on the car and around 90k on the stuff to restore it.

      @ifixcars692@ifixcars692 Жыл бұрын
    • @@ifixcars692 tbf, I was mostly going off genuine replacement part prices, and adding up an entire car's worth. Unless all components are unuseable, you probably would go under 500k - but not by much. If the client actually demands genuine parts, costs rack up *insanely* fast - I know a guy who does these restorations, and for one of them, the client had him hunt down actual parts manufactured around the same time as the car. He ended up having to call up people who owned that same car and negotiate an exchange of a custom-made replacement for their genuine parts, in addition to a hefty lump sum and having to shoulder the work cost and insurance.

      @adamhaselup1125@adamhaselup11253 жыл бұрын
    • @@adamhaselup1125 Hi. I would take it over any newer version of the Challenger. There are a number of reasons why. First of all, cars from the early 70's were so much simpler. Easier to work on. No computers. Less points of failure. More room to work on the motor. No computer controlled junk, no need for a $100k diagnostic machine and no need to take to someone for help. Also, older vehicles were built to last. New ones, not so much. So much plastic. Thin body panels. Cheap components. The new ones are nice, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them for what they are, but if the decision is old vs new I'll take old any day.

      @RestorationObsession@RestorationObsession3 жыл бұрын
    • I think LICobra makes a good point to this conversation and that has to do with one's age when they are exposed to a particular car. I was just a kid when I first saw the 70's era Challengers, Cudas, and Chargers. Being exposed to a vehicle, song, movie, etc., at a young age has a profound effect on a person. There is an indelible link to that object. People who are 13 yrs old seeing a new Hellcat will bond to that late model Hellcat over the older 70's era cars simply because that's what they were exposed to. This is my theory anyways, take it with a grain of salt. :)

    • I hate big rims. Stiffer ride (no sidewall), bend easily on rough roads and easy to blow out a tire. They do handle better, but I take a little less handling then having to buy new tires and/or rims every time I hit a pothole.

    • @@abstract0014 not like the original wheels would fit on there. The car is wearing a big brake rotor kit, so the stock wheels won’t clear the brakes. Cars that have large brakes over stock with the power to back it up need bigger wheels and thinner wider tires to perform better than stock. At least it doesn’t have Cragars or some other played out small tire and wheel setup on there that everyone and their momma has on their ride
