Firearms Expert Reacts To Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Guns
Jonathan Ferguson, a weapons expert and Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries, breaks down the iconic weaponry of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019, including the SIG MCX assault rifle, the Uzi submachine gun, the Dragunov sniper rifle, and a silenced Desert Eagle. Yes, you read that right.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare saw the COD franchise return to a more gritty, realistic shooter experience, which was full to the brim with contemporary weapons like the SIG MCX assault rifle, the DP-12 shotgun, and the Russian ASh 12.7 battle rifle.
In the above video, Jonathan Ferguson, a weapons expert and Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries, breaks down the weapons of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, including the Dragunov sniper rifle, the Uzi submachine gun, and silenced versions of the Colt 1911 and the Desert Eagle. Across the video, Jonathan breaks down the weapons and their in-game functionality, and compares them to their real-world counterparts.

I'd say 99% of people have no clue what suppressors do and how they sound IRL. Politicians even make laws in regards to them based on what they've seen in movies
Weren’t they made to reduce the sound of a shot? Weapons already are loud, and I assume Suppresors were invented to make it less loud. Unless it was invented to make the range of a weapon longer.
@daniel Apaez in a really really simplified description what suppressors do (technically the patent is “silencer” although they only really suppress the sound but call it what you want: suppressor, silencer, can) anyways, what they do is slow down or trap the gases escaping at the muzzle which causes part of the sound although it cannot stop the sound of a supersonic bullet breaking the sound barrier, which can still be loud enough to cause hearing damage. Also I’m not sure entirely if it helps range, if it does it’s probably negligible but it definitely doesn’t reduce range.
Sorry, don’t know how to edit a comment *which causes part of the sound to be reduced
W_Perk I’ve seen an old article on Someone patenting a Gun with a Suppresor as a way to make it less loud, and like you said. Reduce muzzle. I agree, it’s main focus is to reduce muzzle.
I think a silencer removes the pressure that is released, that's what I think.
Kinda bugged me where the oil filter was located on that car
do you know the make and model of the mentioned car? not doubting you, i want to know as well because he pulled it right from the header.
Very common location
I have a Ford Fiesta with the 1.6 TDCI Ecoboost motor and the oil filter is in a relatively similar spot, placed on the front of the block, perpendicular to the ground. It’s not unrealistic that it would be placed in a similar position, but the ease at which it was located and removed is hard to believe.
@@paytonmillhouse1442 have the exact same car and engine (Mk6 fiesta) as you and I agree 😂
well different makers put them in different places, a subaru its straight up on the top when you pop the hood, nissan likes to put theirs straight at the passenger wheel, ford sticks it out the front of the bottom of the block in a lot of cases but not all, chevy it depends on if its car or truck mostly. truck it'll be straight down at the bottom with the pan shaped around it, cars the specific engine matters a lot. anywho, my point is thats actually plausible, what makes less sense is once the first bullet goes through i dont see a whole lot of suppression happening. theres only a piece of dense paper on the outside, nothing through the middle, so it would muffle a little, but not much and especially after the first shot
The royal armouries is a fantastic day out if anybody ever comes to the leeds area

In military terms, he's not too far off. Chris Kyle made a 1800 yd shot with a .300 win mag and snipers are making shots beyond that with the .50 bmg. Last I heard a Canadian sniper has the record at 2 miles with a Mcmillan .50.
@@uhedum surely you'd use something like a .338 lapua instead of a .50 bmg at that long ranges. But it's impressive nonetheless.
weapons in games have very unrealistic ranges and effects, for gameplay balance reasons... realistic shotguns would be no fun, for example... (effective up to some 75 meters). most games also have smaller maps compared to real world, so it is not realistic to engage someone in game on 300m with an assault rifle, cause the map would be bit smaller than that across
@@danialyousaf6456 it's the .50 bmg more powerful than a .338? I'm sure it has a higher effective range. So why would one use a .338 for anything over 1.5 miles?

When is GameSpot ever going to create a part two? (Multiplayer not Warzone)
8:34 I think what Hadir meant by "I put it together myself" was "I put this package together myself." While it's not unbelievable for his group to have access to Khyber Pass-style talent, I imagine he likely managed to get this very nice .338 rifle from a cache or something, adding new accessories and parts to it over time until he had a build he wanted. Us Americans do this kind of stuff with pre-made parts all the time, it's why the AR-15 and Remington 700 for example are so incredibly popular.
Not only that, but the M4 and M14 both demonstrate the concept of modified firearms being found/available, perhaps as either extremely special issue or as modified by the characters. The handgaurd on the M4 is a premium aftermarket free floated handguard, largely used in target and competition shooting. The M14's full length rail/upper heat shield is also an aftermarket addon.
@@reaperreaper5098 the M4 in MW2019 isn't just aftermarket; it's quite literally a Mk-18, which most always has either a Daniel Defense quadrail or Geissele MLOK handguard. The former is what's on it in this game, but in MWII 2022, it's the Geissele. Neat touch since the Geissele one was meant to replace DD's.
@@L1LegoAnimations From what I'm seeing, a proper Mk18 Mod 1 has a shorter barrel than whar MW2019 depicts. If we assume that MW2019 scaled the M203 correctly, then the game's M4 has roughly the same barrel length as an M4A1.

I got the Mk.XIX D-D-Deagle with the integrated muzzle brake/compensator ports, specifically for _more_ concussion. It gives those shorty ARs a run for their money! Post Script: Using the grenade sights is an exciting prospect, one I've wondered about for many years now! Just the ability to utilize the elevator of any iron sights, grenade or otherwise, is something I want to see, particularly for older settings like WWII where the irons are your primary sighting system on near every weapon.
The fact that everybody believe the whole “silencer” stuff from Hollywood is funny to anyone who knows anything about firearms, suppressors aren’t really helpful unless it is long range (snipers mainly) and in anything close range really only allows less effect on your hearing, like not needing to use ear protection. And none of the people who use suppressed weapons use subsonic ammunition which would help with the suppression of the gunshot.
Depends on the gun, caliber and load (Subsonic?). 300 Blackouts suppressed are stupid quiet. I've shot one AR15 in 300lbk with a 10.5" barrel and probably 6"x1.5" suppressor, where the bolt cycling is louder than the round, no hearing protection required. Of course you sacrifice velocity and energy with Subsonic loadings to keep it under the speed of sound and not get the Crack-a-lack. About 450 ft/lbs of muzzle energy with Subsonic 300blk, barely above 9mm +p muzzle energy. Where a typical 308 Win load you are in the area of 2800 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.
Suppressors are also used for flash mitigation also
I shoot subsonics-suppressed-out of my 300BLK build.
@@hazepheno925 the energy of a subsonic can stay the same or similar because you can just make the bullet heavier instead of reducing the powder amount so you have the same momentum but less velocity

Johnathon, please break down the weapons of Minecraft.
Lol
“The diamond sword has been around since I believe the 80s Not a very good gun”
Lol
Can't tell if this is satire
i like how he doesn’t criticize how far off everything is because it’s essentially a video game. i enjoy when experts actually take note of the effort (however little it is) to make something seem more realistic yet still enjoyable
"that will by pass that" such a low key way to say they are gonna be ripped apart
Absolutely love this series.
What bothered me most about the storylines HDR, was the fact that it used a different ammo type, in Single Player its a .338 Lapua Magnum but in multiplayer/warzone its 12.7x108mm. but still acted the "same way"
finally, an expert who played the game himself. He needs to have his own channel
He does
@@larkin54 Then fucking link it
@@larkin54 link it bro

Well I can't say if he has his own, but he as in the past partnered with Ian McCollum from Forgotten Weapons here on YT. (who in his own right deserves to be called Gun Jesus, look him up if you don't believe me)
8:10 So I've done my own research as to what the closest real world equivalent of this weapon (The HDR) could be and based on the caliber, design esthetics, and the regions of which MW take place. I found that this rifle matches up closest to the Russian LOBAEV ARMS, DXL. There several variations of the DXL (2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, & 10 M2) but as far the I can tell the HDR is a custom variant of the DXL Ultra Long Range Sniper Rifle line fitted to use .338 Lapua Magnum for the campaign and 12.7×108mm for Multiplayer/WAR ZONE. The closest DXLs in terms of look esthetics are the DXL-2 and DXL-4. The front grip of the weapon is the only anomaly as it looks very similar to the one on the Azerbaijani Yalguzag.
I actually like the on screen reticle for the grenade launchers. The way I see it is that, in a lot of cases soldiers that are well trained with grenade launchers rarely need to actually look through the sight aperture. They can eyeball the distance and angle and it really is amazing how accurate you can be by just eyeballing. The on screen reticle is like a representation of that for the player. Once you get used to it and hop of realistic you too can just eyeball the distance and angle
This guy has me hooked on these videos right now. Holy crap
Please do guns from “Escape from tarkov”
QUAD FLASHLIGHTS
I bet he would appreciate the weapon customization
And if they do, I hope they use gameplay from people who ACTUALLY KNOW how to PROPERLY PLAY the game (OperatorDrewski, Veritas, DeadlySlob) and also demonstrate the variety of weapons and builds (both serious and silly builds) the player is able to make in EFT.
@@LipColt ever seen aculite?
that would be cool
I wanna see him react to Arma 3 and Arma 2, especially Arma 3's futuristic take on modern weapons
Must admit I am interested in how combat exoskeletons (when or if they arrive) would effect weapons and soldiers? Would they allow heavier weapons to be used (maybe even a minigun) or would they be just used to lessen the load on the squaddie? I can imagine heavier body armour and estra carrying capacity being the norm but maybe a few heavier weapons?
Exoskeletons are pretty expensive, too expensive to be useful in a combat situation. They're also very bulky and while they do make you stronger, more armoured, and less fatigued they're a pain to move around in a lot. I'm sure it could get better and more practical in the future though
@@cabnbeeschurgr6440 Yea definitely a future thing but interesting tech which could then (like a lot of tech) filter down to the civilian market. I suspect if (again future) we ever get energy based weapons they would be a must, at least early on.
Are you talking about the way Advanced warfare did them or more how they currently are irl?
To further the talks about Grenade Launcher reticle for the underbarrel. The Ak47 actually gets an ironsight for its grenade launcher. It makes it so much easier to aim the grenades in Hardcore multi-player.
The attention to detail in MW2019 by the team at Infinity Ward really is incredible. The way the guns look and feel...just a fantastic job. Should be the new standard for the series.
Monolithic suppressor on the FAL 👍
For real i love it
The way the guns sound and feel i think its the best out of all the series
This game has a better collection of guns than Black Ops Cold War. Make the same comparison 6 to 8 months down the line when Modern Warfare 2 reboot comes out.
@Donovan Daniel he probably meant the sequel to MW2019, which is a reboot
Or again in a few months when *hopefully* they add new guns to Cold War through each season
@@renz2k Exactly. There are rumours pointing to Infinity Ward being in charge of COD 2021.
Yeah MW guns are way better than Cold War guns.I was waiting for this one the most.
@Yo Bro It's not as bad as most KZheadrs are claiming it to be. I personally do like it, but it's still inferior in overall quality to Modern Warfare. Kudos to Treyarch and Raven for managing to pull this off in such a short amount of time.
One thing I really like about Mr. Ferguson review is that he played the games and enjoyed both world.
I’ve seen plenty of peoples M1A ( M-14 ) Either SOCOM 16 or regular length M1A with a Red Dot ( Aimpoint, Or MRO ) on them.. For Instance Randall Shugart US Army Delta Force Member made Famous during the Somalian Situation in Mogadishu used a Aimpoint CCO on His M-14.. But that’s the only discrepancy I’ve ever heard this guy make, Good Job on the descriptions on the Firearms..👍🏻
"So if a terrorist is wearing body armor... it is going to bypass that." No better way to say it.
Now specifically because the M4A1 has a RIS II rail it's most likely based on the block II and/or mk18
It was supposed to be a mk18 but the barrel seems a little bit longer than a 10.3”. You can tell when putting a suppressor on it.
@@elpato7478 Incidentally, an 11.5" barreled upper with Mk 18 rail is sold commercially by Bravo Company USA
MK18 100%
Would really love to see Johnathan do an episode over any of the Metal Gear Solid entries. Kojima was one of the first to put real world guns of various types with detailed descriptions into his games.
I’m a huge gun guy I just enjoy firearms and it’s always nice to see new guns, but there’s a few guns in this game like the iso, striker etc that seem to be fake or copies, like the striker, it’s not a H&K UMP clone it’s a real gun of its own, I saw one and the iso when out of state. Pretty cool.
He looks like an evil character in a movie that no one can stop but himself.
Even this man thinks the r9 dragons breath should be nerfed to reflect real life better
Jonathan has become my favorite person on the Internet in a few videos.
8:10 one of my favourite parts of the game.
My plumber is as passionate about his job as this man. I've been sitting in the dung dungeon for 30 minutes, he's naming all the pipe types... by color too.
“...this thing is going to bypass that” he’s so polite lol
Love how the scrounged oil filter suppressor is a diameter that you can still use the guns sights.
When Jonathan was talking about the Kar98K in modern wars and it's uses in the middle east it got me thinking about an article I was reading a few years back. Sometime during the Syrian Civil war when ISIS was really large and in charge there, a crate of weapons was found in an abandoned training facility or something that they operated. In this crate was around 1000 or so STG-44's. Like original STG-44's made in Germany during the finals months of the war. WW2 weapons are still operating and used to some extent in those kind of conflicts where you can't really go to a country and order modern gear. Even Panzer IV's and especially STUG III's have been used rarely in the middle east's numerous civil wars!
