While in Los Angeles for the upcoming ADCC Trials I had to stop into the legendary 10th Planet HQ where mastermind Eddie Bravo is readying his squad for the big competition. Featuring: Eddie Bravo, Jeremiah Vance & Marvin Castelle.

    • @@Poleeze1 what do you mean? You probably know more about ADCC rules than me.

      @treyjasso@treyjasso3 жыл бұрын
    • @@treyjasso I was an ADCC ref for awhile. ADCC is a point system, 10thplanet players love pulling guard and being on their backs. So unless properly setup, everytime you get on your back, its points awarder to your opponent. And 10th planet guys, apart from Eddie don’t like to stall by holding pinned positions like side control etc for long, in ADCC, if you control your opponent from side, or full mount or take the back with both hooks in, you earn 3points. If you go from full mount to knee on belly to full mount again, you get points again. If you’re on the back with both hooks in, remove one hook for 3 secs then put it back in again for another 3secs, you get points again. So you can win without going for submissions, 10th planet is more submission only

      @Poleeze1@Poleeze13 жыл бұрын
  • So these guys-do they get paid to train and compete through all this or....? I don't think there's a ton of money in bjj (yet) and to train that much requires a serious time commitment.

    @alltherezechaj@alltherezechaj5 жыл бұрын
    • That has always been a hold up for me. Not because I don't have the money to train, but I look at the ultimate end. If it's self defense or bragging rights, you can get those in other disciplines. Boxing, Judo, Wrestling all have competitions to a high level, and typically without the $100+ monthly cost of many BJJ places. BJJ is great, but it can be financially taxing which eliminates a HUGE potential talent pool in my view.

      @bobsmitty2119@bobsmitty21195 жыл бұрын
    • You can make good money in BJJ but you have to either own a gym, coach amazing fighters, win big tournaments/super fights and get sponsored. There's BJJ athletes who get paid to travel and compete to teach seminars while traveling

      @TakeshixStudios@TakeshixStudios5 жыл бұрын
    • @@TakeshixStudios I've been at it for years and still can't understand the time commitments required of these guys. Sure there's some cash tournaments and such but almost nothing consistent enough to cover basic housing costs etc unless you're doing big seminars monthly/privates etc. I'm talking more of the guys who train all day every day-aside from a elite population how do the rest do it?

      @alltherezechaj@alltherezechaj5 жыл бұрын
    • @@alltherezechaj Yeah, you definitely need a job to support BJJ goals unless you're lucky and live in-gym like some bjj athletes I know. To make money in BJJ: -Be a full time or part time instructor -Own a gym or work at one -Sponsors, need an audience for this or big wins -Seminars -winning super fights and super tournaments that give you lots of money If you're a hobbyist who wants to make it big, be prepared for sacrifice as you'll be working and training. You'll have less time to do other things you like but if you win it'll be worth it. I don't know the rest lol

  • This stuff is too complex to be practical for self defense. All that starting from the ground, long drawn out rolling around. Nothing about it is straight forward. Break the arm and get up, choke him and get up. Nothing about this style of bjj is direct or efficient. I see why rickson said it was inefficient. Wastes time and energy rolling around sniffing groins. Get to the point and finish it! Looking at this there's a lot of useless elaborate wasted motions. How can this be good for mma when they always start with their butts on the ground.

    @noswad75@noswad755 жыл бұрын

      @drsmiley540@drsmiley5404 жыл бұрын
    • noswad75 you can’t be much of a martial artist to say what you just said. Some of the best mixed martial artists and their coaches, most at that, swear by Eddies Jiu Jitsu and the 10th Planet system. It seems elaborate to a novice who isn’t involved with high level grappling. Anyone that is involved with high level MMA and it’s grappling knows that you better have an intense and expansive arsenal to stay safe as well as escape and sub someone that brings you to the ground. Rickson had an ‘opinion’ about rubber guard. He wasn’t speaking about the system or Eddies whole game. The amount of 10th planet guys in MMA who have used this system have wrecked people on the ground. So your post sounds like outdated, novice, and clueless ‘tough talk’.
