I'm clearing the last bits of the road that I wasn't able to reach last time because of the snow. The weather is warming and the snow is clearing fast. I'm getting on with plumbing and sealing the floor.

  • My husband and I never missed a Sunday evening watching this. He was undergoing chemo and this always lifted his spirits and helped him keep the dream alive of doing something similar in the Scottish highlands. He passed away ten months ago but I know he is still with me, watching and loving this beautiful, and amazing journey in the stunning, Italian mountains. It is comforting, thank you Martijn. 🙏

  • Hi Martijn, I saw you working on the bigger fallen trees and I just can highly recommend you wear safety pants (like the ones Johannes wears) and a helmet and so on. Be careful around bigger trees, they still could have tension etc. I work in the emergency room and the most gruesome accidents are unfortunately forest workers. Love your videos and stay safe.

  • My husband is bedridden and I introduced him to Martijn and he can’t wait for Sunday mornings! He loves the chickens and is always happy to get a glimpse of them following Martijn around the property. We joke about what Martijn is cooking, always something elaborate vs what is actually in the pan. He remembers all the things that he had made/built in his past and cheers Martijn on during every project. Martijn is truly a renaissance man. Art, design, the art of stone masonry, photography, cooking, sewing…this list goes on. What he doesn’t know, he finds out how to make it happen. God bless you, Martijn, and I can’t wait for your parents next visit and their reaction to all your hard work!

They were so happy to see you and that's a good energy that dissolves congestion points both physically and emotionally. I am not a fan of other people deciding what I build on my land. I resorted to some work arounds to build my restaurant that had nothing to do with safety or usability but were politically motivated by the county anticipating new regulations that never materialized. Teeth gnashing. Hard to draw an even breath in the face of seemingly arbitrary roadblocks.

Relieving the strain and stress on a tree by limbing it often transfers the stress on the tree in weird ways. I was swept by a loaded limb once that suddenly cut loose its load, explosively so. I’ll never look at a downed tree on a hill the same way. Be safe, take your time, release all the unloaded limbs on top first. Have a tourniquet in a shirt pocket.

  • All the leaves you collect as well as a thick bed of hay or straw put into the floor of your chicken run, during the coldest winter months, could provide your hens with so much. It not only gives them warmth but enrichment. They can forage and scratch in it. It attracts bugs which they love to hunt and as it breaks down, emits heat. Just a small gesture when it’s the coldest would go along way for happier hens. ❤ following!

  • Martijn, @12:58, the word "sealant" works better in English than "impregnator," which calls up quite different images than what you intend. My wife and I really enjoy your videos and we admire your skilled workmanship. Your willingness to learn by testing your materials in advance is inspiring.

    • I have been watching Martijin for about a year now, and I completely relate to getting this amount of snow ❄️. It happens regularly in the winter here in Vermont. In fact, 24 inches of snow fell here in the last day and a half. I can certainly understand your point of view. But I, on the other hand, would have trouble imagining a winter without a heavy snowfall. It has its own special kind of beauty ✨️. I am sure the southern hemisphere does, too, in a very different way .😊

  • From my wife. So happy that you cleaned the chicken coop! Sorry about your workshop plans being denied. That's the fun bit of land ownership. Yes, more work, but from your renderings, it will be lovely. Plum trees need a lot of water and some amendments to the soil in order to bear fruit -- but please be aware that once they start producing fruit it can be overwhelming. It depends on which varietal of plum tree you have. Your sweet chickens will eat some bits... Worry about your shower being so close to your bed. Even though you take mini 15 liter showers, you can ruin your bedding and the bed itself. Cheers on the music at the end. Quite lovely. And your edits have so improved ( retired producer with pic and sound editing background ). Welcome to spring!

  • I find a lot of peace in your videos. I’m in the United States, and grew up in essentially chaos without a stone family foundation. I am however proud to be in a career, a firefighter paramedic, with a wonderful wife and daughter. The business of life and demands of Covid leave a large portion of my generation (millennial) longing for the isolation and peace that I find vicariously through your way of living. It’s a beautiful life.

  • Your plum is probably autosterile and needs a pollinator nearby (within about 20 meters). Get yourself a Stanley plum. Young trees only cost about 8 - 20 euros at a nursery (vivaio), depending on whether it is a one-year, two-year or three-year old plant. Purchase locally because it will be acclimated to the climate.

I thank you for your walks in your beautiful mountain and its area. The moonlight was gorgeous, then going by and looking in the old stone houses, they are lovely and so sad that they're falling down. The last one you sat down at with the white flowers, I just loved the place. It was so peaceful, a wonderful place for meditation. The sound of the water enhanced the thoughts. • What a week! Plumbing is a necessary evil sent to test us. So sorry about the rejection of a log cabin. It would have been perfect in this setting but of course, stone will do just as well. These code restrictions can be so ridiculous, defying reason. When we built in the Canadian Rockies, we had to use wood only, and now 20 years later, they demand fireproof rooves due to our risk of wildfires. Love how the hens want to be around you - lucky fowl. Thanks for taking us along on another beautiful walkabout.
