Welcome to my backyard builds. Last year I published this video • This Video Will Change... . titled "This video will change how you see wood. I promise." It's almost at 5 million views at this time. Sure. You see that hour and a half runtime and think, No Way! Spend the time! Spend the time!
Thank you for spending the time and for the shout-out!
Yeah, well you can always stop and continue later. In the end if you spend 1,5h watching, you spend 1,5h watching, it's the same 1,5h you spend when watching 1,5h on youtube shorts, it's just less trash.

Very nice video! I have 1 more tip for taking pallets apart, lift it up and let it fall on 2 opposite corners. To make the nails more loose😊 much less chance of boards splitting
Hello from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 , my name is Evan and I’m 15 years old. I found your channel recently and I love your content, I wish you the best in life, and may your father rest in peace.
Thanks, Evan! It means a lot to hear from viewers like you. Stay creative and all the best to you in the Netherlands!
These are the videos people want to see. We're tired of seeing videos where the person has an entire workshop with the most high tech tools saying "Here's how to make this!" Also stop sponsoring Betterhelp, they're known to sell data and not hire professionals. For that reason a lot of youtubers have stopped accepting sponsors from them. Also, I can't imagine how it feels. But he would've wanted you to be happy.
Appreciate the feedback! I strive to keep things relatable with tools and projects that feel accessible. And thanks for your kind words-it means a lot. Cheers! 🛠️
Like Kevin blacktail studio 😂😂😂😂
@@sumukhanm3643atleast Kevin states it isn’t a guide on how to build stuff he’s mentioned many times he knows people don’t have his tools
Well how about those heavy equipments 😂
My personal experience: 99% of building works can be done with general hand tools at home. You purchase expensive power tools for going pro and commercial.
Hello Jesper!! My name is Jonathan and I am from Sweden 🇸🇪 I found out this video 1 day ago and already stopped after 30min to make my own coffee table from pallets! You are such an inspiration ❤ May your father rest in peace and may you keep doing fantastic work like this! While the glue is drying I’m keep watching your video. 🫶🏼
Jonathan, that's fantastic! I'm so glad you're diving right into making your own coffee table. Keep enjoying the video and crafting!
Hah! I'm another Jonatan from Sweden! But I'm currently building a desk :) Cheers!
Hello Jesper. I am a 63 year old female and disabled veteran. I live in Columbia, South Carolina . USA. have a lot of free time when I am not working in my football size backyard. Hello Terry, I'm truly honored to inspire you. Starting with woodworking can be very rewarding, and I'm excited for what you'll create in your backyard!
Thank you for the kind words, Isaac!
Im a university student in Berlin, from Sweden. Honestly one of the best documentaries I've seen on KZhead. The editing is perfect, and the narration and story telling is so fitting and resonating. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity a little bit.

Hey Dusty from Australia! Thanks for the invite, mate! A workshop beer sounds like a blast. Love the support and glad you enjoy the videos.

Hi Jesper! Sorry to hear about your dad. Mine passed in 2021 & it hit me really hard. I feel you. Both my parents are gone now & im in my mid 30's still 😢. Have watched all your videos, loved this one too! Your commentary is the best. Im from Hampshire UK. I just finished building my kids the most epic jungle gym for a fraction of the cost of buying. Mainly with reclaimed wood. So solid! My dad would have loved it. Keep moving forward 👍 much love
Hello from Denmark to Hampshire! I’m truly sorry about your loss; it's tough losing parents. I’m touched that my videos could bring you some comfort. Your jungle gym project sounds amazing-your dad would surely have been proud. Keep building and stay strong!
Hi Jesper! I'm from Kropyvnytsky, Ukraine. For me woodworking is like a small hobby, and your work is one of the factors that inspired to continue doing new things.😺
Hey Jesper! Bryce here, watching all the way from South Africa! Really enjoying your enthusiasm!
Hey Bryce! Thanks for the shoutout from South Africa! I'm glad my enthusiasm comes through and adds a bit of joy to your viewing experience. Stay tuned for more!
I love pallets so much that my friends joke about getting me a van full of pallets for my birthday. My way of processing them is with a multitool, cutting the nails between the boards. It's very fast, keeps the boards at good length and the nails give a good rustic look.
That sounds like a perfect birthday gift for a pallet enthusiast! Your method with a multitool sounds efficient-keeps the rustic look while making the most of the materials.
What a pleasure to hear a Danish accent! I moved from Seattle to Copenhagen for a postdoc, and got to know a lovely family there. In a foreign land with no tools, I got itchy fingers, and I did little repairs and odd jobs on their farm. Love the Danish sensibility, and the Danish sense of humor.
It's great to hear from someone who has enjoyed Denmark personally! Those little repairs and odd jobs are often the start of something bigger. Glad you appreciate our Danish ways and humor!
Kia Ora, My mum is from Denmark (first language I ever spoke), Dad is from Invercargill New Zealand. Brother is born in Plymouth England. I'm born in Grimsby England. Dad's a classic wooden boat builder, mum was working at the London Seamans Mission at the time. After he'd circumnavigated (and decided on religion half way through) on the yacht he'd built, he was over there in England. Met mum and blah blah. Bought a 78ft wooden fishing boat in Denmark, named it King David and converted it to liveaboard ketch. Sailed to the Falkland Islands where they set up the Falkland Islands Lighthouse Seamans Mission and ran it for around 6yrs. Then we all packed up and came here to Whangarei NZ where we've been ever since. My wife is from Erie, Pennsylvania and we've got a 6yr old son. Can't have any more though seeing as she's got an extremely rare blood disorder/cancer/concoction of sorts. I used to do crane/trucks etc, but after she got sick and I got bored of sitting around I decided to take the plunge and finally study towards something I really want to do, so am now in my second year of a Bsc of Applied Science in Environmental Management with the dream of getting a MsC or a PhD in either mycology, freshwater ecology or biology, or marine biology or ecology. I love working with wood in my spare time, and have an original combination Coronet Major lathe which I'm hoping to get pieces for. Other than woodworking, I'll be anywhere near, on, or in the sea. Keep up the good mahi Jesper!
I love scrolling through comments and seeing a bit of Māori🤩😂😂
Why do you think your life story is appropriate here?
@MikeAG333 why not?
Kia Ora, Adam! Your family's journey sounds incredible. Wishing you all the best with your studies and health challenges. Keep cherishing those moments of woodworking and sea adventures!
It’s great, isn’t it? Love seeing Māori language celebrated here too!
Hi Jesper, the drill that cuts the wood plugs from the board for filling the holes is called a "plug cutter", thanks for the video :)
Hi Mark, thanks for the clarification-plug cutter it is! I appreciate the support.

Hey, I'm Sander 28 from Norway. Just bought my first house and cant wait to start slow with woodwork, your video was so inspiring and entertaining! Can't wait to see the rest of the video and more of your content. Thanks for sharing your journey :)
Hey Sander, congrats on the new house! Starting with woodworking can be really rewarding; it sounds like you have some exciting times ahead. Thanks for the kind words, and I hope you find as much joy in woodworking as I have!
I have had this on my watchlist for a few days. The one-hour-and-a-half is daunting, but I bought your promise and must say: I wish it was three hours. Great ton, humor, and awesome woodworking (even with the mistakes mentioned 😅). I look forward to your future videos.
This video is not just about wood, this man is a genius.
Thanks, Osama! Your words are too kind.
Hi from Germany! I've been watching your journey as a woodworker since the beginning and really like the way you narrate your videos, let alone their content.
Hi back at you from Germany! It's been a ride, hasn't it? Thanks for sticking with me since the beginning and enjoying the narration and content! Cheers to many more videos!
Kind of funny that I'm a Computer Science student finishing up his last semester, yet here I am, following the KZhead algorythm, 15 minutes into a video about woodworking before realizing that I'm completely mesmerized and enchanted by your work. Really good job with this! I'm going to keep watching this off-and-on again whenever the world wears down my optimism. I love that you and your daughter are working on these projects together, and both with buzz cuts! Two beautiful human beans just having fun with wood, fantastic.
That’s the beauty of KZhead, isn't it? Leading you to unexpected places. Glad my videos could offer some respite during your studies. Keep pushing through that last semester, and thanks for the kind words!
Hello from Texas in the US. I'm sorry about your father passing, I'm currently going through the same thing with my father and cancer. There is no replacing them just continuing their work and dreams.
I'm sorry to read this brother! But you will get through it, it's a process one have to go through. I lost my own dad to cancer on my birthday in 2018. I still miss him. He was my best friend. We move on, but we never forget. They will live on in our hearts and minds. All the best to you, greetings from Denmark
@Thegr8aarod Sending you strength during this tough time. Continuing their dreams is a beautiful way to honor their memory. Hang in there.
@cryptokimo7558 Thank you for the kind words and for sharing your story. It's tough, but you're right, they live on through us.
Love how you put the clamps through the machine and told people to deal with it awesome!
Thanks! I'm glad you appreciated that part - a bit unconventional but it works!
as someone with no woodworking interest, I love this video. I love the fact that you are also using this as a way to do things with your family. The fact that you were making the cabin with your daughter just for some reason puts a big ol smile on my face every time there is footage of it. Reminds me of when my father owned a house building company and would take me and my brother to the sites and we would help with some stuff, as well as be absolutely reckless kids and play on the roofs of houses and what-not. I hope some day to be able to do something similar with children of my own. Amazing work brother, even if you had to join a few wood-related cults to get here!
That's such a wonderful memory to share, thank you! I'm glad our project could bring some joy and nostalgia your way. Here's to creating those moments with your future kids too!

Hey Jasper! I‘m a 29 year old guy from center Germany, awesome work and I love to see your passion, it‘s amazing and inspiring. I learned the carpentry-job for 3 years and you are the best example, that you can do and learn everything just if you have the heart for it!! Thanks a lot, I will stay. May your dad rest in peace, looking down at you and your family and smile.
Hello from Germany, Johnny! Your words truly warm my heart. It's amazing to hear from someone skilled in the craft. Keep that passion alive, and thank you for staying with us.
Martin from Poland. These are the kinds of videos I love finding on KZhead! I've been doing some small woodworking and rn I'm starting the first construction project and people like you- regular people without top of the line equipment for every single task along the way and boatloads of cash to throw at obstacles- are a great source of inspiration and actually helpful advice. I'm building a racing pigeon loft with my dad. Majówka is around the corner, the weather is said to clear up (it's been misserable the past two weeks) so it'll be a nice project to work on.
I'm Julie, from Tasmania, Australia. I'm 68, and time has not been good for my eyesight, so many crafts are not possible for me now. Luckily, I found your channel, so I can live vicariously with your crafting. Thank you.

Sorry for your loss Jesper. Sending prayers from Sweden
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, they are very much appreciated.
carpenter of 10 years from the uk here. watching this on a saturday morning while feeling under the weather. thanks for uploading
Pedantic detail: At 23:45 you said you used a half lap joint on the cabin frame. That is actually a joint that is almost never talked about in modern times called a scarf joint! In the Medieval period these joint were often made overly complex by craftsmen as a way of signing their work. A carpenter would become known by the specific way they made their scarf joints. In many old churches in England (and presumably elsewhere in Europe) you can find a completely unnecessary scarf joint placed inconspicuously in the corner among the rafters. This is how carpenters whose names have been lost to history are known to have built several different buildings! In 400 years, someone will find your cabin and be able to ascertain that it was built by Jesper, the famous man whose signature scarf joints were so confident he did not bother worrying about lateral forces or or horizontal tension!!! (j/k - I love your videos and your work is beautiful! It's inspiring and genuinely touching to see someone so willing to tackle such a huge project with their daughter)
Thanks, Sara, for that detailed insight! I love learning more about these historical techniques and the story about scarf joints is fascinating. Imagine being remembered centuries later through your unique craftsmanship! Thanks for enjoying the videos and for the wonderful support!
I saw that joint in my grandfathers barn, built by my great grandfather. It was on rafters that spanned 40 ft, I was adding a outdoor kitchen on my house and it was 21 ft long, I used that same joint to make those rafters.
HI Jesper "the zen woodworker", greetings from Italy!! I always love watching your woodworking journeys and appreciate very much the positive thinking coming from your words. Ciao!!
Ciao, Piluniuru! Thanks for joining me on this woodworking journey. Your kind words from Italy are much appreciated!
I rarely watch an extended video of more than 20 to 30 minutes on DIY, but your video caught my sustained interest, and I watched it from beginning to end. I so enjoy your method of working with reclaimed wood, especially your voice-over and how you present your content. Your admonition of "It's entertaining, I promise" was spot on. Loved your video. Can't wait to see more of your content.
I'm honored that you chose to watch the entire video and enjoyed it! It’s always a pleasure to know that the work and effort put into these videos is appreciated. I look forward to bringing more content your way. Thank you for the fantastic feedback! 🙏

The algorithm sent you to me, Jesper. Enchanted by everything, your delivery with great sense of humour, your lovely home and learning how to play with the toys (oops, tools!) and the use of discarded wood. I make collage from waste paper and loved your wooden cookie collage on the drawers, it ticked all the boxes for good use and composition. All best from just outside of North West London, UK! I might add that I am a 63 year old woman and on the strength of watching your video from beginning to end, I am now being sent adverts for enhancing my (non-existent!!!) manhood.

Hi Jasper, I'm from Canada. It has long been a dream of mine to build a log cabin with my sons. I am the mother of four city boys, so I don't know when that will happen, but they are all handy so its not an impossibility. Very inspirational to see you teaching your daughter how to use tools and showing her that building things is not out of reach for her.
Jesper. The name is Jesper...
@rosetealatte9282 Hi there! Building a log cabin sounds like a wonderful dream to share with your sons. It’s never too late to start planning, and it’s fantastic that they are handy!
@jesper1406 Indeed, the name's Jesper. But I also react to Jasper, which I just not as common in Denmark.

Hi Jasper, I’m from Saskatchewan Canada, and from what I hear it’s a lot like where you live. Thanks, Robert! Really glad you liked the workbench. It’s one of my favorites too.
Hey Jesper, its easy to forget with all the wonderful builds that your video editing has come a long way and makes the channel a joy to watch. Thank you and keep up the great inspirational work. Even though I'm a Zimbabwean living in Jordan I can still enjoy seeing my aspirations coming to life through your work. Not much wood here to choose from but hey, pallets are everywhere!
That's incredible to hear, especially all the way from Jordan! It's amazing where a few pallets can get you. Keep building and keep dreaming!
Hej Jesper, greetings from Israel 🇮🇱 I love your videos and they fill me with inspiration! Your story, your amazing journey really touched me. Sorry for the loss of your father, and was happy to hear your daughter’s laughter while you did the voice over. I lost my dad when I was 19, and my mom when I was 34. My dad used to take me on weekends, driving in his old Volvo picking scrap wood and then building all kind of stuff in our back yard. Your family is lucky to have you and I wish you all the best! Looking forward for more of your videos ❤
Hej from Denmark, Liran! Thank you so much for sharing your story, and I’m glad my videos can offer some inspiration. Sorry for your losses; it’s touching to connect over shared experiences and the laughter of loved ones.
Chris here from Tasmania. I call my home down under down under. I’m very impressed with the way you encourage people to have a go. Glad to see you discovered the denailer. You had a good dad. Mine got Me Interested in wood early in life. I’m 66 now. I’ve done a lot of things with wood from forestry to fine timber boats. But I find you totally inspiring. Now I’m starting over with building a workshop with little money and a full time caring responsibility for my disabled wife. I’m also having a serious crack at KZhead. You have encouraged me to press on. Thanks Chris.
Chris, your journey sounds truly remarkable. Keep pushing forward, and I'm thrilled to hear that my videos could inspire you. Cheers to your new beginnings and workshop!
24 year old dude from Western NY, USA. Love the video and if you've never heard of him I highly recommend looking into a man by the name of Richard Proenneke. Decided at about 50 years old to move to Alaska and build a cabin by himself with hand tools, with his only contact being a bush pilot bringing him the essentials. Awesome story and a personal dream I have.
Thanks for the recommendation-I'm a big fan of Proenneke's incredible story, too.
I’m 24 as well ima watch that next

Jesper, your WHOLE life is a movie mate. So beautiful seeing you & Julia continuing the work that your father would be so unbelievably proud as he watches. You are a gem 💎 my friend, don't ever change.
Thank you so much! It really does feel like a movie sometimes, and I'm glad to have you and others along for the journey. Julia and I appreciate your support immensely-here's to never changing and continuing to make my father proud. Cheers, my friend! 🍷
Thank you - this is so inspirational, funny, and your daughter’s laughter connecting your family story is so heartwarming. ❤ You are indeed blessed to be able to do what you do but we are also blessed that you share your talent and insights with us in such an original way! Keep on going and using what you have! I’m from S. Florida - not a good place to find old wood that is usable since the bugs and water will destroy it quickly, so pallet wood and trashed furniture are my go to sources of wood.
Thank you for such kind words, Andi! It’s wonderful to hear how much you’re enjoying the videos. Sending the best from Denmark to S. Florida!
Hey Jasper, from Montana, USA. Great stuff! I have been a shop teacher for the last 24 years and I love to see people learning new hands-on skills! You are an inspiration to many, thanks for sharing your journey!
Thanks so much! It’s fantastic to hear from someone who’s been teaching shop for so long. Glad you're enjoying the content!
Hello from Norway. I'm almost 20, and I do programming, but from time to time I enjoy watching woodworking videos. It was kinda funny to see you mention and show the Finnish log cabin video, since that is one that I found a few months back.
Hello to Norway! It's great to hear from someone who balances the digital with the hands-on. Those Finnish log cabin videos are indeed inspiring.
Hi there from New Zealand, I really enjoyed your video! as someone who is starting to get more interested in woodworking it is really interesting to see someone who has delved into the journey
From the UK here. This is such a lovely video. So much thought, planning and heartache involved I'm sure. Your commentary is excellent (especially your sense of humour!). Super informative too. Liked and subscribed, keep going mate!
Really appreciate your kind words and support, Melldog! There’s indeed a lot behind each project, and sharing the journey makes it all the more rewarding. Cheers from here to the UK!
Bravo Jesper, I thoroughly enjoyed your video and as a pallet wood trained woodworker myself I congratulate you on finding your calling in this life. I too have found a connection to those I've lost & those I love through experimenting with discarded lumber & some cheap tools. You have deservedly received my subscription, I wish you all the best in your future endeavors & I look forward to watching them. J from Michigan.
Thank you so much, J from Michigan! Your words truly resonate with me, and I'm glad we share this passion. Looking forward to having you along for the journey!
What a journey! Thank you, Jesper, that was awesome!
I’m thrilled you enjoyed the journey, Andrey! Thanks for the kind words.
Hey Jesper, David from northern UK. I just found you a few weeks ago and love everything about your videos. You're inspirational and educational and having fun too, which for me is a great combination. Keep doing what you're doing and stay happy and safe my friend :)
Hey David from the UK! I'm thrilled to hear you find the videos inspiring and fun. That's always my goal. Thanks for the support, and stay safe!
Watched the whole video. You are so blessed to have such a beautiful property. My dad immigrated from Sweden in 1922. I wonder how things would be different if he hadn't. I'm stuck in California. Love your journey. Thanks for making the video.
Thank you for sharing that, Charlie. It's fascinating to think about "what ifs." Glad you enjoyed the video and the property. Cheers from Denmark to California!
Hello from Arizona, USA! My first time watching your channel. I didn’t want the video to end. Beautiful land you have. I was amazed at your projects and determination. My son and husband and I built a big chicken house. The base was a huge pallet we found out in the desert where we lived at the time. Saved a lot of time and money. That was over 7 years ago and it was moved to its current location over 100 miles on a trailer. It is still intact and has housed many hens over the years. You’re right…great memories from building that chicken house. I think I loved the drawer fronts you built the best. It literally looked like stacked logs under your work bench. It was absolutely beautiful. A work of art. Great video!
Hello back to Arizona! Your chicken house adventure sounds amazing-thanks for sharing that. It’s these kinds of projects that really make a mark. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi Jasper, Utkun here from Turkey. I just want to say that we used to have a little farm, me and my dad used to spend our free time and go for our dad&son adventures like building a treehouse and stuff. Seeing you and your daughter building your cabinet send me to those days. I really appreciate the content and the work you put in.
Thanks for sharing that, Utkun. It’s those memories that make these projects so special. Glad to bring back some good ones for you!
Loved this video, as I do all your videos. I guess it's maybe a good thing it's a big world - imagine if all of us who feel like we know you through youtube popped in for a visit! This is another hello from Canada. So touching to hear a little bit about your Dad & your daughter, blessings all all you continue to build...
Thank you so much, Silas! Haha, it would indeed be quite the gathering if everyone popped in. Thanks for sending your greetings from Canada-blessings to you too!
Brilliant video, very interesting. 👌 I’m from England but have been living in the French Alps for some years. I’ll be returning home at the end of May basing myself in Devon. I’ve also used pallet wood for projects, currently converting a 17 seater minibus into a camper van using it. Looking forward to many more videos. Thanks and best wishes, Colin.
Thanks, Colin! Your project sounds amazing-best of luck with the camper van conversion. Can't wait to bring you along for more woodworking adventures from Devon! 🚌💨
Hey Jesper! I'm in Stockton, California, United States! Love the video. Your comments about haters on KZhead had me laughing out loud!
Hey Spencer, glad to bring some laughs your way! Cheers from across the pond!
Great work, Jesper. Really inspiring. I love the idea "making something out of almost nothing" with tools and time. Greetings from Slovakia!
I am Deivids from Latvia, half way in and I already learned a lot about wood that I didn't know and gives me confidence since I been building with wet wood for 4 years now. I hope I achieve the level of wood working as you. My workshop is slowly becoming better and better. Good luck with all your future projects! 😊
Hey Deivids from Latvia! That's fantastic to hear you're gaining confidence and learning along the way-keep pushing the limits of your workshop and skills. It's all about that gradual improvement! Thanks for the good wishes, and back at you!
Hi there, 54 years old from northern Minnesota… some tools I’ve never even seen or heard of… all I can say is…great work!!👍🏻

Greetings from New Orleans Louisiana, USA I am a retired woodworker and home builder. I enjoyed seeing your videos.
Hey Chas, thanks for tuning in from New Orleans! It’s always great to hear from fellow woodworkers and builders. Glad you enjoyed the videos!
Hi Jesper from the United States (Connecticut). Love this video and it shows the importance of still knowing how to use your hands and learn skills like woodworking. May your father rest in piece. I've just finished up making a bed frame out of wood and I want to make a bar out of pallet wood next!
This is one of the best videos i have ever watched on youtube. Blessings from Türkiye!
Thank you so much, Erdem! Your kind words mean a lot. Blessings to you in Türkiye!
This is just brilliant Jesper! In general I think 50% of the fun during such a project is knowing what works through self discovery. Stepping away from the paved path. Please keep doing what you do
Absolutely, discovering new methods and paths is what makes it all thrilling. Thanks for the encouragement!
Gooday Jesper from Blue Mtns (near Sydney), Australia. Love your attitude and ideas, and I’m so envious of your rural farm space, and the opportunity you and your daughter created to work together - lovely! 👍

Ur cool man, I appreciate the therapy mention, it helps to talk to people, afterall that's all we have is eachother.
Thanks, Cody! Absolutely agree-sharing and connecting can be incredibly healing.
Man, awesome content, excellent story telling, great crafting, and the smoothest transition into a sponsor I have seen in a very long time - nice job all around.
Thank you, Bill! Glad you appreciated the storytelling and the sponsor transition. I aim to keep it genuine!
Much more than just a carpentry video. Only half way through and really enjoying it. It’s such a special thing when sharing activities with your children. Picking up many wood working techniques too. Thank you for making and sharing this, it’s a very special video.

The cookie drawer work table does stand out, glad you like it!

Been watching your videos for a bit now. Colin from Indiana (USA) . My great grandfather immigrated to Florida in the late 1800s from Denmark. I love your work but more importantly your attitude.
That’s an awesome Danish connection, Colin! Thanks for the support and love the backstory!
Attila from Budapest, software-engineer (also, a Scandinavian at heart). I just wanted to say that I have lots of respect for people who dive into something without any prior experience and just keep going. I seem to be procrastinating often due to feeling not being well prepared for a task. Needless to say I end up being my own blocker for growth. What you do is super inspiring, Jesper! Thank you for reminding me to be bald and brave. Looking forward to seeing how you grow further in the future. You got yourself another subscriber. :)
