I will anxiously await the first video in 2023 and will be missing the Alps until then. I am a 75 yr old widow whose only exercise these days is walking . I have no explanation for why I enjoy these video casts so much and find it impossible to explain it to friends and family. Is it the silence, the serenity, the hard work, the perseverance, the beauty, the simplicity of the complexity? It's a mystery, but I so, so appreciate you.
Because it is the kind of communication that the Internet offers and is desirable to be, where people like Martjin have something to offer and offer: love for nature, simplicity and comfort in the things for which he works from the heart, relaxation through work. I'm a 64 year old veteran getting esketamine for treatment resistant depression and I watch these videos during my treatments. Im a first generation American from Italian immigrant parents. I don't know why this channel feels so much like "home" for me...but I have a sense of connection. I love watching. So lovely.

Martijn, I was diagnosed with cancer at the same time you started your Italy series and found your channel after week one or two. Cancer, no matter the kind, is a devastating diagnosis. It can strip the world of its beauty and make you feel empty and hopeless. But your videos, beautifully created, gave me hope and helped me focus on appreciating every moment. Thank you with all my heart. And when will you get a dog?!!

That's interesting! Since my sister's cancer moved to palliative care, this is all I watch. Such peace, no news, no fiction TV. It's fascinating, absorbing (like meditation) and NO DRAMA! For every time other KZheadrs use the word 'exciting', Martijn uses the word 'beautiful'.

Your abilities amaze me. The cinematography, the building, the engineering, the woodworking, the perseverance, .... all of it! Your peaceful attitude while doing it and how you still enjoy the peace, views, walks etc.
I usually don’t write comments (silent watcher), but I need to say Thank you so much for the effort of making this atmospheric, beautiful and aesthetic videos it’s always a huge pleasure watching them. Can’t imagine how time consuming it is to place the camera in so many different spots just for 3 seconds of walking by, but the videos are just perfect an relaxing. I have been watching since week one. I also am a 74 grandmother who was, years ago, actively involved in renovating stone cottages in France. My husband now in Aged Care thoroughly enjoyed watching the work which brought back lots of memories for him. I love the alps, the serenity and peace, the cow bells and your great work ethic. Contrast this opening scene with Martijn at the B&B (which seems so out of the ordinary now) & hearing Martijn’s sentiments of leaving this beautiful place for Christmas (really not wanting to go) so now we all take a break from these activities to reflect on the past year & look to the future coming before us. The mountains now have their quietude as well to be left to the birds and wildlife to view and observe & wait for the snow to melt and the first buds to appear. Merry Christmas all.

What a closing! I realized that this is all we do. Come to this planet, make some foot prints and then leave them all behind. I live in a similar place, in the Italian Alps but in Lombardy, on the border with Switzerland, roughly at the same altitude according to the type of trees i see in this vid, but it looks like you got a lot more snow than us.
I am Australian & lived on the lower Alps north of Bergamo in a place called Fopollo. I walk over the mountains with my two dogs every day & loved to hear the bells on the cows echoing through the mountains. The views were stunning . It was so magic. I have been watching Martijn’s videos from the beginning & it makes me feel like going back. My daughter & I drove to St Moritz up over the mountain, stayed at a place on the border of Italy & Switzerland. It was amazing. Cheers Noeline.

What an unexpected Christmas treat. Funny enough I sat down to watch this right after I dug my mother in laws car out from the snow. In Michigan we have more snow but we are pretty flat. I imagine some of your trips up and down that mountain seemed a lot less calm then your drone shows! I love your work. I am a custom carpenter by trade and find your efforts inspiring. Merry Christmas. My Great Grandfather was born near Torre Pellice, in Prali. We tried to visit last October and made it as far as Torino, but our mother fell ill and we had to return to the U.S. on short notice. She's doing so much better now. Hopefully we can return someday.

That visit to the south side was so revealing. With the cleared road the atmosphere was immediately very different. Tame, more touristy. I think your environment is much more peaceful and interesting. So, although the south side has its advantages, the wilder side is better. Interesting to see the other side of the mountain, I can totally understand it must have such a different feel to it than your end, where, as you say, you don’t see anyone. For me that’s the beauty of your place and I’m sure it’s exactly what you were after. Imagine a year from now, you’ll probably be living just as comfortable as Johannes... most likely living in the cabin again, having a proper chimney and all that. Having seen all the wonderful work you’ve done this year, with all the backbreaking big jobs, can you imagine what you’ll achieve the coming year ?! I look forward to your video’s every single week, and I often find myself watching them with a smile on my face, so thank you for that! Glad you are taking a break and will be with your kin and friends for a while. Too much solitude and cold is not good. You need a break. I was in lockdown for 2 years and was glad to see friends again.
In my studio, focused on finishing a small painting, I listen to the man working outside, to his tools on wood and metal, no words no music. Heaven. Then he will speak to me, quiet words about his leave-taking of the mountain, hopes that all is intact when he returns. Now that it's real he is reluctant to leave, and yet his heart longs for friends and family. He is my ideal relationship, the divine earth-partner who respects and honors my creativity and solitude as I do his. I will be here when he returns.

Those hand planes can be fun to collect. I have a few, and working on them (sharpening the blade, cleaning them, restoring them) can be quite relaxing as using them in wood working/carpentry

Wauw. Just stumbled upon your channel. Down to earth, or better high in the Alps☺(Holland is still rather flat i know from experience😉) I saw some of your previous adventures. Amazing. I am at a crossroad. Just turned 50 and unfortunately a bit disappointed in life. Try to find ways to calm, soothe myself. Watching your life in the elements gives energy and is also relaxing. Fortunately I have the love of my dogs and soon we hope to set of in a camper to find a true home. Maybe that search will cost a lifetime, but perhaps the way there is more important than the goal.
