  • I saw nothing wrong with Emma that time she lost cuz the opponent was better not cuz of herself Gauff defensive skills are impressive she could return every single shot Emma tried at key points until Emma misses maybe that was her big flaw couldn't find a way to outplay Gauff defense.

    • She was hampered by something though cause her serve especially hasn’t been the same this week. She can serve consistently around 175khm on her first serve but she was hitting a lot at 130-140khm.

  • I knew Emma will bounce back once she establish her confidence and more playing time..I like her tactical and strategic game against Coco in this match..She belongs in the top ten list in the womens ranking...She just need more patience and experience and everything will fall in place..Emma, do not doubt yourself, i believe you have what it takes to be a top competitive player..     • Nah, computers put these together, so it's a little harder to say "biased" than you think. I suppose it's possible to tell the computer to "Show more Emma" but it's not like a real human is going through the frames and picking points.

  • Great match! Like everyone, I was looking forward to this one. Gauff is a warrior with great overall play and athleticism; Emma seems a bit more strategic in her ball placement but could stand to improve her stamina. The hug between the two at the end was really nice to see. The men could take a lesson here (remember Rune's rude walk away at the end of his match with Ruud?)

    • Yes both played awesome. Gauff has done better with consistency and eliminating unforced errors, also improved serve consistency. Radacanu will be a force to rekon with for years to come if she keeps working. Madison keys could learn a thing or two from these young players. Power without control and consistency is pretty much useless.

  • Emma actually played great in this match. I think she finally had turned the corner with her groundstroke. She seems to have a bit more pace than a year ago. Coco is too tough though. Great match.

    • yes; Emma needs to try to be injury free. She should also do more weight training to get power; she has a good body frame that can generate power if she trains it.

    • @@robin212212She been doing that in the off season I think as she looks bigger compared to a year ago. She had a niggle it looks like she was carrying in this match and couldn’t generate as much power as she’d like though she could still dictate quite a few point so with her aggressive and precise play. Her first serve speed was way down on her usual as well and that’s a weapon of hers.

  • I see Emma has much improved her tennis game. Initially, I thought Emma was fad but she actually showed up as a tennis professional. I think it was good for Emma to play a champion in the making like Coco so she can test her game better. Coco has the confidence, an all around game where she can pool different ammunition to help her. That is super important. Emma not so much. It was a great match to watch and I am so glad both came to win it. It showed. Go Coco!!

    • In the rallies Emma is more attacking and precise, that’s why she was dictating a lot of rallies but Coco’s defence got her through and her serve. Emma’s serve is a weapon and it’s took a hit this week and probably some ball speed in the rallies, Coco is too tough opponent to have with limited prep after her ankle sprain.

  • After USO 2021 Emma has lost 1r or 2r in all slams and in 2022 she had a negative W L record, her result in 2021 USO was an outlier, there are 30+ players that have better tennis than Emma, I think right now she wouldn't get out from de qualy vs players like Bucsa, Schneider, Selekhmeteva. For those saying she is in a learning process I have 2 questions: How long is that learning process that she is in?, When will you admit that Emma is 20% tennis and 80% hype?

  • Once Gauff is able to get more power and flatter forehand, it’s gonna put her top 3 for sure. And her serve is pretty big

    • @ Jonathan Cano, I totally agree with you! Not sure if Coco will be able to improve the power on her forehand side because she uses an extreme grip. Like you said, she really needs to put some pop on her forehand and flatten it out, if she wants to get to that next level.

    • Actually I think the serves was the decider in this. if Emma’s serve was like it was before her ankle sprain this definitely could’ve gone the other way cause she dictated a lot of rallies in the end and Coco’s defence got her through. Coco remained resilient though and kept in the points.

  • Coco is coming into her own. A few technical adjustments to her game, particularly forehand side and she will be a force. I feel Emma played a very good game. She put a battle vs one of the best. Also she is very sweet, very elegant and graceful. Good luck to both ladies going forward.

  • Coco really needs to stop returning the ball directly towards her opponent, she leaves herself vulnerable without challenging her opponent too often and made to chase the ball around the court. She still lacks the precision of Iga Swiantek or the game IQ/versatility of Ons Jabeur. Great potential though.

  • The drop shots by net need improvement for both. Any good opponent with hit that back down the line or over the head.

    • Down the line is much riskier ( less room and higher net). It seems Emma was going for the body shot but doesn't want to hit Coco.

    • Emma is better at shot making. She hit a lot more beautiful winners than Coco, who is better at defending, but defensive play is usually not that exciting.

  • If the commentators could be aware of the connotation of their adjectives used to describe Coco, it would be much appreciated. "Combative" is not necessary or accurate and isn't used to describe her fairer-skinned competitors. She is competitive, smart, assertive, athletic...all great adjectives that don't perpetuate stereotypes. 😊
