Lyrics:
We get it almost every night
When that moon is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
Everybody here is out of sight
They don't bark and they don't bite
They keep things loose they keep it tight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
We like our fun and we never fight
You can't dance and stay uptight
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody was dancing in the moonlight

  • This is my favorite song because it's connected with a very precious memory from my childhood. My parents got divorced when I was 2 years old. I stayed with my mom and I saw my dad from time to time. Until I was 5 years old I saw him every 2 weeks and when I was 4 or 5 years old he listened to this song all the time on repeat. We listened to it while we were in his art studio and he was working on his projects and I was playing next to him and it was such a peaceful atmosphere. The older I got the more complicated my relationship to him got because he got depression and wasn't able to care for his children anymore. Later he died and at that time he became already something like a stranger for me even if I always loved him very much. So this song puts me always back to those moments where everything was peaceful and good.

I remember the director loved those fairy lights and put them all over the place. I spent a lot of the time encouraging people to dance on the top floor to keep the vibe going :) Those were the days, hanging out with fashion models and going to wild parties - another lifetime :) This is the first time I have actually watched the whole video! I worked on so many back in the day but I remember this one.

  • One night in Berlin my ex-girl and I have decided to go and explore the most peculiar pubs in the city. So after a few places we were going drunk and it started snowing hard when we arrived in a small and perfect cocktail-bar that was themed by the 90's. I remember they even had a Nintendo 64 where you could play Super Smash Bros. They also had the most beautiful playlist, which included this song. I remember that while listening to it, sipping tasty beverages and laughing on how we sucked at the game we first confessed each other about our love. From this day on for years until we broke up this remained our song. From that day onward this song will always remind me of the beauty in being young, naive and in love for the first time. Thank you for reading

    • This is exactly why it was written in the first place, in fact it's quite a sad story. Writer of the original, Sherman Kelly says; "On a trip to St. Croix in 1969, I was the first victim of a vicious gang who eventually murdered 8 American tourists. At that time, I suffered multiple facial fractures and wounds and was left for dead. While I was recovering, I wrote "Dancin In The Moonlight" in which I envisioned an alternate reality, the dream of a peaceful and joyful celebration of life."

  • Playing Driver on my PS1, late at night, this song on (very quietly) in the background, I had a silver venetian blind next to my cabin bed which let just enough light in from the streetlights to feel like I was in a hideout in a movie, I had a halogen desk lamp, and I'd snuck a can of coke upstairs as part of a midnight snack. Life was good. That opening riff takes me back to that exact, magical moment in 2001 every single time I hear it. Cheers Toploader for this absolute banger, it may not be the first version, but to me, it's irreplaceable

Must say, the bass is very simple when you master your transitioning skills, same pattern goes through the whole song, yet there are so many improvised parts including fills, octaves, etc that make this song so much more interesting and unique, like you can play the same fill over and over as opposed to doing all the different ones the bass in this song does, and no one would even tell because it all sounds good. I'm a bit of a bass nerd so excuse me, haha. Love this song

  • My brother turned the volume on when this song came up in his playlist. We were driving along a highway surrounded by mountains on both sides facing toward the sunset. It was so beautiful and for once in awhile, I felt like there’s nothing to worry about and I wanted to remember this moment as long as I can.

  • This song hits hard, I used to listen it with some friends in high school on our way to revise for exams at the library, then one of them died unexpectedly the year after I left. I listened to this on repeat the week of my friends funeral. She would have been in her 30s now, she was only 16. Be grateful for every day x

  • I danced to the original of this song, under the northern lights, in Christmas, super mild, with my best friend and his partner, a great memory, and thanks for bringing it back, in such a respectful way to the original. If I'm wrong and that was the original, awesome!! Love this song!!

  • Hi there, smiling person! If you read this, then i hope you have a GREAT day! And don't worry 'bout what other people think about you, just be yourself! If everything looks dark, just remember that somewhere, there'll be light! I just had one of these dark times, but then everything got turned upside down, now, instead of bad things, good things keep on happening for me! This song helped me ALOT getting happier! So, again, have a lovley day, friend! :3
