I gotta say, I think that first fight KO was one of the best things that could have happened to Islam. It happened early enough that it won't really affect his rankings too much, it demonstrates that he has the skill and fortitude to come back from a loss, it provides a young fighter a certain degree of humility, and(most importantly) it prevents a fighter from having to carry the weight of the "0" throughout their entire career.

When they eventually got the title shot, people said they fight nobody tough. As a kid growing up in the U.S. and studying many grappling arts I always wondered about Sambo. Even though I only read and saw a little on t.v. Based on its philosophy(grappling/striking) I had a feeling that it would be the ultimate art. And here we are today, an invasion of Russian athletes whose base is Sambo and seem to be unstoppable in the MMA scene.
I wonder if they would have been as dominant under pride rules, I mean Fedor was, so it's possible.
