This is a full tutorial showing you exactly how to remove an engine out of an automobile in great detail. Our example vehicle is an 1981 Ford Bronco but all the principles that I used to remove this engine apply to all cars and trucks. Removing an engine is an essential part of restoring a vehicle or building an engine. It also is a great way to find an engine at a junk yard or pick your part yard to rebuild.

You have the best instructional videos on every Automotive subject, in my humble opinion. Thanks for taking the time and effort to teach us.
Great teacher for removing an engine, I love his clear thorough instruction with plenty of lighting that shows what you’re doing on the engine parts.👍
Wow, thanks!
I’m 16 and have a 1988 k1500 if that makes a difference but I don’t have anyone to help me and have to watch videos and learn, thank you
That is literally why I make these. So cool! Thank you so much for watching!
@@2carpros thank you for the help I started a bit today and will go again tomorrow
@@rigsterman1602 howed it turn out brother?
The things that happen because you don't really have a father figure in your life.
Nice work Ryann. Can't wait for the other videos and what this engine looks like inside.
Hey thanks for watching Shawn!
THANK YOU I AM REBUILDING AN 85 BRONCO ENGINE AND THIS IS SO HELPFUL
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Great detailed video. Thanks!
Very welcome!
Thanks for this and the 454 rebuild
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much, this just made my tomorrow easier
You're very welcome!
Dudeee thank you so much for making this video I’ll be pulling out my 472 out relatively soon very excited but hella nervous too lol
Oh nice! You got this! Take your time and you'll be done no problem!
Thank you for the video
I was trying to find the part where you did the tq converter bolts, it may have been brief, but I missed it! But other than that, this was a great refresher. I’m about to pull my 300 6 cylinder from my 82 f-100 which is essentially the same exact process as here. Thanks! I figured out the tq converter nuts myself pretty easily!
13:07 Thanks for watching and nice work!
I'm currently rebuilding a 390 FE for a 1971 F100, my first total restore I'm tackling. Thank you for this complete teardown, it's a lot of things I've learned during my teardown process as well - especially just throwing out all the old, hard rubber! I'd love to see a video that looks at some older engine blocks and determines if they're still good/usable or not. I haven't really been able to determine what can stop a block from being used - other than obvious cracks.
This is a great idea, I'd love to see this.
Damn, same! Gonna be tearing down a 1973 F350. Also a 390 V8. Ought to be fun.
Once I seen the dewalt I knew you were official!💪🏼 lol
Good work man thanks for your educating vedio
So nice of you!
Thank you cause I had no idea what to do safely
Thanks,I’m pulling my Chevy small block without the trans. I need a refresher course.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
You would make a good technical school instructor👍
Hey thanks and thanks for watching!
Thank you Ryan! So detailed and through. I will be pulling a Ford 460 BB out of my 67 Mustang gt. It is shoe horned in, no room and not much to disconnect. It is paired to a C-6. I want to swap in a 351W stroker motor (408). Should I pull the C-6 with the Engine, seeing that I probably will have to use a different bell housing? Or just pull the C-6 out sepatately? Thanks for sharing. Appreciate all your time and effort in making this great video. Cheers from Motown.
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching! I'm a fan of taking the transmission out first, just because it is easy to lose control with all that weight and harm yourself or you car. Hope that helps!
@@2carpros Hey Ryan, agree. the 460 is 750lbs alone. Will disconnect trans from engine and then tend to the trans. Hey! and all that with Jack Stands!!!! lol (but I am used to it now.) Cheers from Motown and Thanks for your speedy reply sir.
Man! Thank you
Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros absolutely if my car didn't get in trouble I needed a new body I don't think I would have searched but you did a fantastic tutorial I appreciate you
On the subject of wiring...I would love to see you put a Painless Wiring kit into something like this. My 79 Firebird has factory wiring and it needs to all go away but such massive electrical work scares the crap out of me. I would love to see how you do it in your typical, point by point, long form videos.
Now that's a good idea! I would love to re wire the Bronco like that. Thanks for watching!
On a vehice that old a lot of the wiring is garbage and for emissions. You can just cut it out.
@@TOMVUTHEPIMP I’ve had the car since I was 15 (I turn 46 this month) so the wiring hasn’t been butchered like a lot of cars. My main problem is its old and brittle and in places the insulation is just falling off.
@@madrabbit9007 I just bought an 84 C10. The AC was trash and dont need any of the emissions garbage. After removing it all there was not much left. Other than the headlights there was only like 4 wires.
@@TOMVUTHEPIMP I’m restomoding my car so A/C, power windows, touchscreen radio head unit. Needless to say I’ll need more than what the factory offered.
Very useful 😛😛😛😛😍😍😍😍☺️☺️☺️😊😊☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️😊😊😊😊😊😇🙂🙃
Thanks a lot 😊
Hey quick question. I was wondering what model number and brand is that impact gun? i was going to get air tools; but, this seems like a good option here. Also, where did you get the sockets? so, exact impact gun model and socket recommendations, pretty please. Thanks so much, you are doing great work! I am super motivated!
Looks like a DEWALT 20V MAX XR. Phenomenal battery powered impact gun. I almost bought one, but went with the Milwaukee brand because of all the batteries I have are from Milwaukee.
taking the front grill off is easyier then pulling it straight up plus dont have to remove the hood just takes a little longer
Hey can I turn the crankshaft while in park? I just need to get to the last bolt
After watching this video I was able to LS swap my Pontiac grand am and I'm only 9 years old !!!🎉
How long did this take you in total?
What bout removing from a 3 speed on column . Do you still remove flywheel bolts
So I'm assuming its a manual 3 speed and those you don't have a torque converter to unbolt. Typically you just have to unbolt the manual transmission. To remove the engine. Sometimes you have to take the line off the throwout bearing but sometimes it's just a fork and it's super easy. Thanks for watching!
is this the same for a 1990 bronco
Great. Do you know how the engine comes apart from a manual transmission T19. I can't find many videos?
I did a whole video on removing a manual transmission from an engine. kzhead.info/sun/abJvkpl-aXWerH0/bejne.html hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros Do you have one for a rear wheel drive manual?
17yr old rebuilding 351w on a 84 bronco, seems like i need more and more tools everyday … $$$
Keep the candle burning my friend! Thanks for watching!
I was in your shoes many moons ago. The work can be long, hard and frustrating but there’s no better feeling than driving a vehicle you fixed yourself and saved big money doing so.
Do you need to put vehicle in neutral first if moving it after pulling engine?
Yeah just keep it all in neutral at all time and use wheel chalks. Thanks for watching!
Hello, I would like to ask about the Dell Cordless Screwdriver how much power is equal to Newton, thanks
Hey I’m at the part where I took the starter off but my torque converter isn’t spinning 😬 what should I do? Any help would be much appreciated!
Wait i think im looking at the wrong thing…
What if my engine is siezed ? Is it still possible to remove those torque converter bolts/nuts off
You would just have to disassemble more of the engine while it is still in the car or truck to free up your stuck pistons.
@@chrisstromberg6527 is there anything else I can do?
What type of engine stand would you use for this?
Any stand that isn't the 3 leg kind. So I have the Summit one and it works pretty well. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros thank you man!
So is it impossible to do solo? Like I really don't have friends and so...
I did this solo. Just the hood is tricky by yourself. Thanks for watching!
Where do you live? I want to take an engine out of a car and I think you could show me how
I have 97 f150 4.6L I have a rodknock looking to talkle this job
Not bad to do at all! Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros I’m having trouble accessing the transmission top bolts
Now how do i put it back together? 😢
I'm working on that video too. But it's just the reverse of the remove. Thanks for watching!
I have a 1994 ford bronco 5,8 that need rebuild. can i be your friend.. lol
Oh man I had a 96 with a 5.8 and I always wanted to rebuild it. I'd love to cover one at some point. We did just rebuild this 302 on this channel though. Power numbers are here kzhead.info/sun/f7GyitqarqBmn68/bejne.html Thanks for watching!
Taking a 4.9 out of my 86 f150. First time removing a engine lol
Awesome! You got this! Thanks for watching!
Heck, I just take the hood off myself. its not that bad, man handle it. lol
I'm small. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros 😀
Wait, this was the first engine you ever worked on?
Sure was! Feels nice to work on it proper. Thanks for watching!
FORD... Found On Road Dead
You forgot to crush the water bottles in your trash
Dude you talk way too much. Just show how you remove it for fks sake, and shut it off!!
If only you could scrub through the timeline and find what you want! Thanks for watching!
does it matter what way you put the load leveler? i put it from left to right. he put it back to front. should i change mine?
Yeah I mean I always do front to back so you can level the load of the engine. Thanks for watching!
if your rad hose gets stuck like his and you had to make a hole, cant you just drill a hole in it and wait for all the coolant to leak out and then fully cut it? 😂
