  • Very very nice work. Pleasure to look at the finished product. So interesting to see the process from start to finish. Only thing was, I had to turn off the volume to save my ears from the extremely distracting, jarring "music" ( if you could call it that). A running commentry to explain your process would be interesting to hear.

  • Very nice job! I hope you’ve painted the back side of the fender, especially the welded areas. Otherwise it will rust out faster than you think

  • You cut the seams so they matched but they used spacers to make an even gap before welding the gap . Wondering why the gap? Thanks.

    @drjimjam1112@drjimjam1112 Жыл бұрын
    • Excellent question, I have been asked this quite a few times. When you butt weld two pieces together, you want to have between a 16th and an 8th inch of a gap so the weld can penetrate all the way through making it a clean but weld. If the two pieces of metal are completely touching each other when welding, you’re only going to weld the surface. Those spacer clamps are specially made to keep a small gap so that your welds penetrate all the way through. Thank you 😎🤙🏼

  • Awesome job, what rust prevention did you do to protect the weld under the the wheel arch from rust, especially near the lower section near the front of the door?

    @eightfivetwohk13@eightfivetwohk13 Жыл бұрын
    • On this job I used High Teck professional rubberized undercoating in black. It sprays direct to metal, and it will seal up all the welding under the fender wells.

  • I have a question for anybody that works in an auto collision field I used to work Auto collision myself in the past I noticed the painter would wear a charcoal filter mask but still end up having paint around his nostrils I did prep work I would wear an n95 mask but at the end of the day I blow my nose out into a rag and have a ton of dust in my nostrils my question is would you trust an n95 mask or a surgical mask to protect you from a microscopic virus like covid-19

    @franklegarda6510@franklegarda6510 Жыл бұрын
    • Just use a paint respirator, and you’ll never have any issues at all.🤣😂

      @AirCooledDesigns@AirCooledDesigns Жыл бұрын
    • @@AirCooledDesigns every painter that uses a charcoal filter respirator always has paint around his nostrils the only mask that really works is the one that covers the whole head

      @franklegarda6510@franklegarda6510 Жыл бұрын
    • That’s true, the last time I used a full face respirator that covered my head was when I used to paint fire engines. Spraying into the compartment boxes surrounded me with overspray, so just a respirator would not work for me. Painting cars is different, so I just use a respirator, and never had any issues. 👍🏼

  • Oooof. Mig welding on a super thin panel like that is prehistoric. I guess if the customer is ok with it, it's fine.

    @bigblocklawyer@bigblocklawyer Жыл бұрын
    • I used TIG, and Mig welding for my projects. I used Mig welding on this job with no issues whatsoever, and I was able to get the job out within a couple weeks for my customer. As long as you control the heat, there will be hardly any bodywork to do. Thanks 😎🤙🏼

      @AirCooledDesigns@AirCooledDesigns Жыл бұрын
    • Nothing prehistoric about Mig welding. It's done all the time in the car repair industry. The question is why you don't already know this.

    • Yes, the art of auto body and collision work is all about making the decision on what tools to use in order to make the repair. I’ve done plenty of work for the insurance industry and had no issues whatsoever, and in California the insurance are fully aware of me using either Mig, TIG, Arc, or Spot-welding wherever is needed. Thanks for your comments (Big Block Lawyer). I’m curious to know what method you would’ve used to apply this quarter panel?

  • plastic filler on the lid is not going to last because of the heat. Big mistake.

    @bernardmauge8613@bernardmauge8613 Жыл бұрын
    • Hey Bernard thanks for the message, I’ve been using the Upol Gold body filler for many years. Few of my jobs that have this filler on there Decklids never have any issues past five years. As you can see in the video it’s only a skim coat, so there will be no problems. I’ve had clients bring their work in where they do not take out the dent, and was filled with Bondo so there was cracks everywhere. If I cannot repair the Decklid before the bodywork, then it’s better off just getting a new one.

      @AirCooledDesigns@AirCooledDesigns Жыл бұрын
  • Awful repair, sufficient for an old winter car. Sheet metal sealing before the bondo application, polyester bondo over the bare weld seams, no tinning, no reasonable sealing from the inside possible ... oh man this is a porsche !

    @mikatroling3450@mikatroling3450 Жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for the comment, of course, I’ve done plenty of prepping before the bodywork and paint, and the prepping underneath the fender before I undercoat it to seal it up. This is not a how to video, but more of a quick video of the work I do. The owner drives his car on a regular basis, and the bodywork has held up over five years now, no issues. Thank you.

    • It all depends on what the customer wants to pay, when I do a full restoration everything it’s zinc, coated, and all seems get seem sealed before the two-part epoxy primer is applied. This young customer inherited his Porsche from his grandfather, and he did not want to spend too much money on an accident that he had. I always work with peoples budgets. Thanks for your comment.
