Chris Harris Drives The Tuthill Porsche 911K - THE ASTONISHING 11,000RPM LIGHTWEIGHT MACHINE

2023 ж. 27 Там.
2 113 954 Рет қаралды

In its dynamic debut on camera, the concept, build and performance of the sensational Tuthill Porsche 911K is revealed in this adrenaline-packed new film from Collecting Cars. This lightweight bespoke sports car uses a vast amount of carbon-fibre to keep weight to a minimum, while a 3.1-litre flat-six engine with a rev limit of 11,000rpm produces around 350bhp, giving it an incredible power-to-weight ratio.
With a furious soundtrack and visceral driving experience as the rev counter needle spins towards 11,000rpm, its maker Richard Tuthill likens the purist character of the car to “a four-wheeled motorbike”. What’s more, with some versions of the latest Porsche 911 now tipping the scales at 1,700kg, the Tuthill 911K at just 846kg represents an astonishing achievement at just half the weight.
Richard Tuthill has already been quoted as stating that the 911K could be made even lighter with more extreme weight-saving; potentially even below the 800kg mark - so it seems that this new take on what a lightweight Porsche can be has a very exciting future for enthusiasts.

    • Let's be honest, Harris could do Topgear all by himself, he doesn't need those other two numpties. Perhaps pair him up with Henry Catchpole though for a bit of balance and someone to bounce off of.

Pair Harris with Catchpole and Johnny Smith or Jethro and I'd definitely watch it religiously.

  • Okay. You can have your Bugattis, Koenigs, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, whatever. This is the coolest thing I've ever seen. I grew up with Porsches; my dad bought a Covertible D in 1960, when they were just "funny little cars". A 912 in '66, in which I took (and passed) my driver's exam. I've had 911s, a couple Boxsters (I have one now, love it). But this? This is high art. Ferry Porsche is laughing his ass off. This car was launched SIXTY YEARS ago. What a car! THANK YOU! Nice driving, Chris. Very smooth. As the great Jackie Stewart said, "You've GOT to be smooth!" And you were quite good.

    • Before they went over materials, I thought "Hey, how nice that he kept the original look so much." only to realize the entire thing is... well usually you'd say "a replica" but this is obviously quite a lot more than that. I love how it captures the spirit of Porsche in a technological sense, using the best materials and as little of them as possible. This is Plasa's 134Judd levels of cool.

  • Can we just take a moment to appreciate the rare alchemy of engineering, camaraderie, and sheer automotive enthusiasm captured in this video? You see Chris Harris, usually the maestro at the wheel, getting literally breathless with excitement. This is the Chris we didn't get to see enough of on Top Gear - unrestrained, deeply invested, and geeking out like he's rediscovered the essence of what makes driving magical. And let's not forget Richard, the unsung hero who's orchestrated this mechanical symphony. Seeing the creator of the 911K behind the wheel was like watching a composer conduct his own masterpiece. It wasn't just a car review; it was a story about passion, skill, and the bliss of the open road. Truly iconic moments in car culture history right here.

    • Before I decided to be sensible and put a cat back in it my old MR2 used to spit the odd flame on the overrun if you were on it due to the map being fairly rich on boost. People on track used to always comment on it and if you were driving at night I'd see the whole rear of the car light up as I'd punch it out of corners. Luckily I never melted anything due to how the exhaust was placed. It was a completely unintended thing but so cool, although I eventually put a cat back on it because I didn't want to get flagged for noise on track and the car was a bit more civilised day to day but I did miss the flames. Still miles better than all that stupid popping and banging you get today. The flames on this are the same, obviously they need to run fairly rich so with the small amount of exhaust the unburnt fuel ends up causing those flames. Not that my old shitbox was on the level of this amazingly crafted thing.

    • Nice to see not too over tyred and not too stiff. A lot of these types of cars fall into that trap whilst looking like the old cars. This seems to be approaching it from the point of view of how the car would have been back then if they had modern materials and engine internals, but same dynamics, just notched up. Still the big elephant in the room and that is cost. Not for the large amount of money to buy, but that fact that when blasting along a B road you might end up with the odd incident or slight scrape. Perhaps there would be too much anxiety on approaching SUVs and tractors etc. You might end up wanting to protect it too much to really drive it as it deserves, like Richard and Chris did. Finally someone makes a really interesting 911 engine bay that is a bit out of the ordinary. Wish I had heard more about the engine and its engineering. Nice video though.
