Luna Espinoza it’s still not enough to be #1 and a champion. Serena dominated the sport for 18 years. Andreescu has one good year. So far Andreescu has proved herself about as much as Halep or Osaka

😍 Both girls hit hard. But Andreescu hits harder. 🤔 Townsend's net work lost her a bunch of points this match. I hope Townsend shapes up more physically to hit stronger and learn when to rush the net and when not to. I'd love to see her in the top 20.

RazorBlade: I think she is on her way. These look like the two best players in tennis to me right now. But yeah, Bianca made her pay for all those serve volleys. It's a tough task to also be able to compete from the baseline when you're more comfortable near the net. She'll need to figure that part out.

Taylor has incredible net skills. Just insane. Bianca just has baseline game that can put you in fits. No ball is ever the same and she also has mega power. When she uses it, it feels to come so randomly. Her serve is attackable but that’s about it.

Taylor needs to change her serve. The control she gets from spin is great against lower ranked players, but she needs free points off the serve if she is going to really hurt the best players, and make inroads deep into the majors.

Townsend has a beautiful game. Really nice platform serve, great angles on the cross court forehand, smooth backhand and terrific volleys. Her biggest weakness is movement at the baseline. In a slow court like Arthur Ashe, against a terrific mover and accurate hitter like Andreescu, the serve volley game unfortunately will not work. There's some great movers on hard court in WTA these days.

Taylor thought she was playing Halep who is a counterpusher. For an aggressive player like Bianca, you must have a very strong serve for your sliced volleys to be effective all the time. I know she’ll do better next time.

The way Andreescu plays reminds me of Kim Clijsters pre pregnancy. Both have solid ground strokes and great mover (with splits) but I think Andresscu has more of a variety shots

Andreescu is an Osaka with more variety, more athleticism, better positioning, a significantly better drop shot, more accuracy, less risk aversion, takes better advantage of opponents who are out of position, has more strength, can return better and seems to be more driven. if she continues to improve she is going to be very very difficult to beat.

2:30 - great S & V from TT - very impressed. One of the most naturally talented players on the tour. She can mix up the pace very well. Taking the returns early in the second set and stepping it up - BA crumbled a little but was too strong today. BA is very mentally tough.

Spirited fight by both players and a deserved win for Andreescu. Pity Taylor Townsend did not follow through with her game plan as she did in the second set. She exposed Bianca's weakness and she was found wanting. You have to give credit to Bianca for taking Taylor's very own tactics and using it against her to gain the upper hand. If Taylor is to improve on her game, all she needs is to rectify her mistakes in this match and she'll be on top of her game!

Definitely the nastiest crowd from all the 4 GS. Glad Townsend lost, for a player who asked for Halep's advice she seemed quite arrogant during the tournament. Yes, it is the biggest result of her career so far but she should be more humble. It's not like she won the tournament, she just reached the 4th round..

TT is great hitter but marginal runner needs to lose 40 lbs. every thick tennis player moves better when they dont have extra weight on them. interesting sharp division of public opinion from nonathletes regarding this. when a male tennis player is a bit chunky which impairs his movement ie playing ability all males whether players or public agree that less weight wd result in better level of play which is common sense and when the male players reduces his weight he then plays better. when the same rational common sense thinking is applied to a female pro tennis player it results in complete denial or a firestorm of sexist comments which make absolutely no sense....

It's a tough task to also be able to compete from the baseline when you're more comfortable near the net. She'll need to figure that part out.

A really great match that I like coming back to...I like Townsend's style and it's interesting to see how Andreescu was able to overcome it and win.
Taylor has incredible net skills. Just insane. Bianca just has baseline game that can put you in fits. No ball is ever the same and she also has mega power. When she uses it, it feels to come so randomly. Her serve is attackable but that’s about it.
Taylor needs to change her serve. The control she gets from spin is great against lower ranked players, but she needs free points off the serve if she is going to really hurt the best players, and make inroads deep into the majors.

Townsend has a beautiful game. Really nice platform serve, great angles on the cross court forehand, smooth backhand and terrific volleys. Her biggest weakness is movement at the baseline. In a slow court like Arthur Ashe, against a terrific mover and accurate hitter like Andreescu, the serve volley game unfortunately will not work. There's some great movers on hard court in WTA these days.
Bianca has some maradonian's aptitudes and attitudes too, by the way Taylor didnt play bad at all.
Taylor thought she was playing Halep who is a counterpusher. For an aggressive player like Bianca, you must have a very strong serve for your sliced volleys to be effective all the time. I know she’ll do better next time.
Wow! Love seeing a player serve & volley but Townsend needs to move laterally to volley those passing shots. She can’t just watch them wiz by her. She just needs more experience. She’ll be great in the near future.
That seems simple in theory until you actually have that ball wiz by you in real-time.
The way Andreescu plays reminds me of Kim Clijsters pre pregnancy. Both have solid ground strokes and great mover (with splits) but I think Andresscu has more of a variety shots

Andreescu is an Osaka with more variety, more athleticism, better positioning, a significantly better drop shot, more accuracy, less risk aversion, takes better advantage of opponents who are out of position, has more strength, can return better and seems to be more driven. if she continues to improve she is going to be very very difficult to beat.
... But unfortunately her body is fragile like crystal, really a pity. She needs a lot of experts advices and her team needs to put her in the right road, shaping her body/muscles/ligaments to prevent injuries, will not be easy if she's like a female Del Potro.

Townsend is not built like a tennis player but she does everything else like a tennis player. Her groundstrokes are good enough that she could stay back but she wants to keep the running to a minimum, understandably.

Spirited fight by both players and a deserved win for Andreescu. Pity Taylor Townsend did not follow through with her game plan as she did in the second set. She exposed Bianca's weakness and she was found wanting. You have to give credit to Bianca for taking Taylor's very own tactics and using it against her to gain the upper hand. If Taylor is to improve on her game, all she needs is to rectify her mistakes in this match and she'll be on top of her game!

TT is great hitter but marginal runner needs to lose 40 lbs. every thick tennis player moves better when they dont have extra weight on them. interesting sharp division of public opinion from nonathletes regarding this. when a male tennis player is a bit chunky which impairs his movement ie playing ability all males whether players or public agree that less weight wd result in better level of play which is common sense and when the male players reduces his weight he then plays better. when the same rational common sense thinking is applied to a female pro tennis player it results in complete denial or a firestorm of sexist comments which make absolutely no sense....
