  • I tried with oven cleaner. Was a bit more straining but got everything off that way too. Been looking how to paint it, so your video came just in the nick of time again! Thank you very much my friend :)

  • Props for putting in the work. Looks 10x better. I just coughed up the money and bought replacement plastics and coated them to last.

    • Thank you. That is the better option but this seems scratch resistant still so i'm hoping it will last:)

  • Good work. I followed a forum tip and use Plastidip but it didn't last. I'll track down some textured bumper paint and do it again your way.

    • Thanks for the insight. Not all bumper sprays are created equal it seems so maybe do a sample first to be sure:)

  • I’ve used citristrip to remove the soft touch coating, however it took the moisture away from the plastic? It looked really grey and splotchy, after the coating was off I hit it with some sem trim black and matte clear and it really saved my ass. Good thing it was just the bottom door card handles so they’re not that visible 😅😅

    • Never heard of that citristrip before but as long ad it works its good:) i have just seen people grind it off and i wouldnt recommend THAT option

  • Looks nice! Here in Florida, that rubberized coating turns into sticky goo. It's pretty disgusting.

    • Yeah it doesnt feel all that premium when it get gooey lol:) must be your warmth and humidity

    • The Florida heat is brutal to plastics.

  • I used 91% isopropyl alcohol. It worked. But, there’s also an orange based cleaner … the name escapes me but it works great to remove plastidip

    @NarcFreedom@NarcFreedom4 ай бұрын
    • I have heard about the isopropyl alcohol but only had access to the denatured one. I wonder if isopropyl would have been better? But either way, the denatured did the trick too Havent heard about the orange one before.

  • Random question. What is the gray fabric blanket on your workbench called, in your language? I bought one made in Germany years ago and I can’t find one again in the US.

    • I think theyre called moving mats here? They vary in quality but are super cheap either way

  • Brake fluid will eat the coating right off. The only thing is I don't know if the brake fluid will contaminate the plastic and compromise whatever coating you spray on afterwards.

    • Ive been toold a steam cleaner will do the job as well! Didnt try though. Scotsbrite and denatured alc pulled it right off

  • Mine is in dire need of restoration, wish I had a garage to paint it.

    @renas5371@renas53714 ай бұрын
    • If you have a shed or something like that you can use it. I have no heat in the garage so i had to heat the cans with a blowdryer before spraying them on. So its doable in a shed. Its also doable outside if its not too cold out. Or rainy. Let me know if you have any questions about the process

    • @@OEMplusRESTO I am in England and there’s more chance of winning the lottery than having a day with no rain or wind, unfortunately no shed at the moment or proper garden to prep the parts. Maybe in the future when I move. I have just refurbished my headlights by retrofitting new projectors and lenses, this took weeks extra because of the weather, luckily I could do most of the job inside. I really need to find a house with a garage but that’s a luxury here 😅 I recommend you do the headlights if you haven’t already, I have factory xenons and the bowls were burned out, I got the kit from retrofitlabs and it has made an astronomical difference.
