So, Polestar or Tesla? ⚡⬇️
Polestar
Tesla
Polestar! (preferably in red)
The Polestar is a car whilst the Model 3 is a toy for "geeks". I'll take the car.
polestar
All day long, no cars on the road The deer is seeing a car: LETS CROSS THE ROAD😅
Lack of engine noise catches them out.
It's filmed at Longcross test track in Surrey - no cars at all, except journos testing! Most of Carwow's reviews are filmed there too.
It probably couldn't see it when it came out, and it sure as shit didn't hear it.
@@Ffish69 was thinking that it looks like the place carwow films at
Id love to entertain wildlife is bored as all day well fed with nothing to do but only the thrill of coming close to death as their only game. In reality being near a clearing they feel safer so they can see predators from both ways rather than in the thick of things. Grass grows better there then with little notice massive grey or white beasts suddely appear. This jacks their R complex part of the brain to react as if its coming for them directly. Results in dash off on a surface where they can get better initial speed as they react as if the beast is coming for them so changing its direction towards them gives them a split second edge to help their escape verus predators anyway. After all these years even long time 4x4 people know simple ultrasonic whistles in the front of the bumpers alerts wildlife way ahead of time to reduce such collisions but electric car manufacturers only expect city usage it seems.
One pedal driving is definitely possible with the Polestar 2, you just had creep mode turned on. If you had turned creep off, the car would have come to a cmplete stop just like the Tesla
As I said else where, lazy research .... they wanted it not to beat the model 3 ... hence why no mention of build quality or the Model 3 LR is the same cost, same 0-60. But hay ... it means views right?
@@Gdank72 Polestar 2 is more expensive than Model 3 LR turns out they are the same price in the UK.. suck to be in UK I guess edit: searched US, Uk and EU prices, only UK has the same price and otherwise model 3 LR is cheaper
@@Gdank72 Build quality is good as I have one, nothing moves, nothing squeaks and the panel gaps are as good as my wifes Audi A3 etron, where the build quality inside is not as good. The paint is probably worse than the Polestar. The Tesla is not perfect, but is way better than most legacy car makers can produce. The polestar and Tesla are equally good cars, but done in different ways. The difference you are highlighting is that some people hate Tesla for what they stand for.
@@Gdank72 agreed. They take the time to learn about the gimmicky stuff like fart mode though 🙄.
@doogieAfro There is no "Fast" version of the P*2 ... there is ONE version. The "Performance Pack" are wheels, breaks, and Suspension. Unlike the M3P where you get the extra power. So yeah would have been a better review if they compared the M3 LR vs the P*2
2:59 this is the quality that they use for advertisement jeez what a nice shot
When he said "hey google, turn on my heated steering wheel", my kitchen lights was turned on 😆

It was harmed. Rory got out the car and punched its antlers in.
ok
Only thing harmed was their name.
Just scared shitless
@Alden Buyer thanks for being able to speak english
whoever designed the polestar 2 should get a raise
Yes. It took a lot of effort to make it look like a Scion tC.
Nah
The designer took the design from another car
Saab 9-5 NG
He was a designer at Volvo. Polestar was once a part of Volvo. So yeah... this is hard work I guess.
i dont know why but i just love this guy. Can he please start a podcast, i wanna listen to him while awake and on my sleep
You're weird

@@debajitdeka4236 no he’s not.. the guy has good energy.

Yeah. Once he learns how to open a powered boot on a Tesla.
For some reason, I still find myself liking the Polestar more. Perhaps its vain - but I just think that the Polestar looks nicer and more premium. Additionally, I've heard so many horror stories about Tesla quality that I trust Volvo more. I've got a lot of respect for Tesla as they've really helped push long range electric cars, but the model 3 looks like a bubble car to me whereas the the polestar looks more mature.
In terms of looks, the polestar is a matured handsome gentleman while the tesla is a college kid on drugs
Agreed, the quality issues alone would prevent me from shelling out on a Tesla. Some of these tests are a bit pointless too, I'm never going to need a 4.5 second 0-60, I'm more interested in the 40 - 70 range for overtaking.
@@MrBuyerman Also Polestar derives from Volvo. Which have been mass producing cars for way longer than Tesla has. Also havent heard of any Polestars catching fire..
@@tredfxman to be fair, there are a lot more Teslas out there, so it would make sense we hear about them more.
Not true , I test drove Polestar couple times. Doesn’t feel that luxury at all. I mean the quality is good but not that high end though.
Turn “Creep” off on the Polestar to make it stop when “one pedal” driving.
Well, yeah, but then the Tesla wouldn't look as good and the Tesla fanboys would whinge. See how that works?
Yup
@@seybertooth9282 looks like youre just a tesla hater, bigger channels have talked about polestars creep and didnt talk at all about teslas yet tesla fanboys didnt comment about it because they know that the model 3 beats the polestar 2 in almost every category and overall is a much better car
@@Mooshimoca hey, I'm looking for some more reviews of the car - any ones you've seen that you could link me to? It would be much appreciated. Thank you, in advance.
As a Radiohead fan I find this deeply offensive
This is Polestar’s first true electric car, this is Tesla’s 4th. Polestar have done a brilliant job for it being a brand not many people have heard of and being built from the ground up!
also the first car with android automotive infotainment system built-in. I get mine on monday
Yeah but Polestar’s “first true electric car” is a direct copy of Tesla’s 4th, and it still comes up short.
@@Car_Tism wtf is "directly copy" by that are you saying every car in the world is direct copy of the ford's one??
Nightdown Fox You can’t say its a “direct copy”. Thats like saying every electric car around the £50K mark is a “direct copy”. That’s like saying all phones are a “direct copy” of an iPhone.
Well it isn't built from nothing. Chinese Carmaker geely is behind polestar
So here's my not so quick Pro/Con experience after renting a 2023 Polestar 2 (Single Motor) from Hertz (Houston -IAH) over 3-days and about 100mi. as a 5-Year Tesla Model 3 owner. I was immediately impressed by the build quality (no rattles or squeaks), trim materials, low road noise and handling/body control. I enjoyed the design elements and looks, just wish it sat a bit lower from the side profile view. The onboard Google maps and dual displays were nice and I found no reason to use the available CarPlay option I would normally use in all my rentals. Biggest Cons IMO were #1 the awkward high center console that I bashed my knee on the very first time I sat in the vehicle and several times since as a taller 6' 2" driver. Con #2 would be the lower range vs. Tesla, although to be fair, the PS2 is more accurate and realistic with its range. I often lose a few % parked or drop 2-3% at the start of a trip in my Tesla which I was not seeing in the PS2. Con #3 for me would be the poor rear visibility vs. a Model 3...nothing more than a tiny little pocket between the rear headrests. Forward visibility was fine, but again much better in the Tesla where the dash is lower and the window is much larger. Power delivery was smooth and surprisingly sufficient given this was only the single-motor version...0-60s is slow compared to Tesla Model 3's, but at speed on the road it's more than adequate and feels better than the numbers on paper IMO. Again compared to a Model 3 It's a bit tighter interior-wise, especially in the second row. Unique features that stood out to me were the frameless side mirrors, weird turn signal tone and neutral position shifter that I wasn't all that use to coming from a stalk based system. Overall I would recommend and/or rent one again and I'm interested to see where the new refreshed design will take this model line. Tesla overall has the Tech, Performance and Charging Infrastructure advantage, but if build quality and mostly local driving (with home charging ability) are more your ownership style I think plenty would be more than happy with the Polestar 2. Solid B/B+ EV in my book!
What you didn't talk about was build quality, panel fitting, squeaks and rattles. When you live with a car for a period of time, these things are extremely important.
I think we just need to appreciate the fact that we have these kinds of cars, whether model 3 or polestar 2 is the best, both are amazing cars and I don't think anyone would say no thanks to either one of them
I would not want a Tesla 3, Worst interior in any car (my opinion) the steering wheel is way to ugly.. the one i drove had really bad panelgaps, inverter whining was very loud. Its ok for an american car i guess.. but its not up to european standards in my opinion..
@@djsalose I agree on the 2019 production batch. Saw it and heard it. But not on the 2020 production. I just had mine fresh from the states. No uneven panelgaps en no noise from the electrical drivetrain. No rattles as well. As for the interior...I like it. Maybe a matter of taste. Seating is good for my 1m93. Could put it next to any German car as far as build quality (and I've owned several...).
I wouldn't like to have any of these cars. Cuz they are heavy, un eclogical and the worst ELECTRIC.
Lots of people just hate these stupid battery cars
I'd say no to the model 3
I ordered the Model 3 Long Range despite extensively researching the Polestar. Lovely car but the Tesla charging network was the big seller for me. I can't wait to get it on the 28th. Good to see some competition though in the EV market. If anything it improves the choices for customers in the long run and I'm sure the next Polestar will be even better.
How can you afford it?? Or was it on finance
@@Darkest_matter lease over 5 years through my business. Works out very tax efficient doing it that way.
@@Darkest_matter As company cars, EVs are really cheap. My M3P costs less than a 1.0l Golf per month and that's before the difference in fuel costs (there are some for EVs, but it's really low). That's not unique to Tesla though; Polestar, eTron, Jag iPace all the same. The thing I like least about my M3? People think I'm the kind of person who spends £50k on a car. Even as a personal lease, once you take fuel and servicing into account, they're no more expensive than a BMW 3 series and loads of people buy those.
both are great cars, both have their pros and cons. I chose a PS2
@@johnmckay1423 totally agree with you. I've mentioned to some people that I'm getting a Model 3 and they look at me like how can you afford that but if you do the maths it makes sense having one and the performance from them is next level.

Do you know the location? It's gorgeous
I kept getting distracted from the informative review by just how good the filming here is. Great work, they really made the rainy conditions work well.
simply breathtaking
Nice video! I have always been impressed with your videos since top gear days... I have tried both and I drive a Model 3 Performance and I agree with basicly all things in this video. One quick note is that the luggage space numbers are wrong.. a friend in Norway measured the Model 3, with under-cover trunk space + frunk to 545L. Would be nice to get a confirmation if it's true or not. Polestar2 is impressive but I will be keeping my Model 3 because of 3 things: -Supercharger network -Track mode -Netflix Keep it up!
Nice to see such a detailed review In terms of build quality and good looks, for me it's the Polestar
Rory: Good for people who drive around in cold conditions.... 9 months a year in the UK then.

Yepp. I live in Northern Norway. 5-8 months of snow here. 🤣 LOVE my model S. 😊
Ahahaha UK is cold. You're funny
This car is actually a pretty popular car in Norway and probably in other scandinavian countries. UK isn't that cold compared to these countries.
The cinematography of this channel makes me feel some type of way that I can't describe. Job well done RORY :)
Love the review. This guy went just deep enough and covered what matters the most.
I get that it’s more flexible in terms of future redesigns but I’m still really unsure about just touch screens in cars. They should at least have some generic controls like volume, play, pause, heating. Just so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road and fiddle around to do simple stuff.
Drive a focus then
@@labsbiotech1474 My Focus rusted too much and had to be scrapped 😭 I have an Ateca now though and love it. Touchscreen up top. Heating controls all down below. Extra controls on the wheel. It’s great 👌🏻
I love the look of the Polestar from the front, but less so from the back. I’m happy I ordered a Tesla, because the charging infrastructure is better and cheaper. 24p/KWH is cheap! The 0-60 test is kind of pointless, maybe a 30-70 rolling acceleration test would be better, as it mimics overtakes and acceleration between tight corners.
Exactly the opposite to me :D I really like the back, but the front - not so much. But I'd also take a Tesla over the Polestar any day
exactly. looks great from the front. looks a lot less appealing on the side and rear. doesnt look ugly but its like being girl whos pretty and but shes fat. no disrespect but you get my pt.
It would be fun to see a high speed test
Thats how all Volvos been except the 140 and 780, imo
I'm happy you didn't order a Polestar you may be asking why? It's because of this twitter.com/xanderhook1/status/1312095604907147272?s=21

Agreed to.
You can disable „Creep“ in the P2, then it comes to a full stop in one pedal driving mode.
Best car review I´ve seen. Keep up the good work!
Once again a very good review! You’re now one of my favorite car reviewers along with Chris Harris and Matt Farah.
Rory, you had the Creep Mode On when testing the one pedal drive, I think you would come to a complete stop with it turned off. It has worked in my experience :)
Excellent review, Rory! I like your presenting style and thorough walkthrough!
I think the transmission tunnel and the between seats storage is where the battery is stored, thats why you get so much boot space but sacrifice alittle bit of the cabin
Just picked up my model 3 long range two days ago and I’m so glad they added the heated steering wheel and powerlifting trunk looking back on this video 😅
Really good review, great work Rory and team! Love the personal touches.
Loving your reviews Rory, keep up the good job mate.
The drizzle in the start of the video was probably the best thing that could have happened. Created an aura that was amazing
Most honest, fair appraisal of both cars. Thank you!!
I think this is the same place where Carwow reviews their cars?!
Best comparison Rory, love that it is in 4k too, shout out to the production team.
Thanks. Especially since they shot it all in constant heavy rain 😀
Love all your videos!! high quality!
Wouldn't the model Y be a closer comparison? Heavier, taller, hatchback...
It's not available in the Uk so that might be the reason
The Model Y will crush the competition when they start making it in Berlin.
I think Model Y would to
Colorgram Not available. Yet
Mu dad owns a polestar and the interior is way smaller and cramper than the model y, im 6 foot 3 so thatcould be a factor
Electric acceleration, whilst vicious, is also so smooth. Really a different experience to ICE. It kind of feels like gravity changes direction in my Model 3 performance. It's really quite addictive, everyone should at least try it once.
As a Tesla Owner, I am excited to see a Polestar in person and drive it.
Sitting in one of those is great I just sat in one today
I have a heated steering wheel in my TM3... It was a ~March 2021 build though. I'll definitely be test driving a Polestar when my lease is up on the Tesla, as the hatchback is a huge plus for me. I assume the rear seats can be lowered in the Polestar to gain even more storage when lugging stuff around? I can also fit 3x car seats in the back of the Tesla (not that that will be of much use within the next year or two), but worth noting at least. I needed to get some seat belt extenders so I didn't crush my hands every time the kids get into them. The extra leg room in the back of the Tesla is great My one complain I have about the Tesla is the glove box... Why do I need to do 2 separate screen clicks when a simple plastic handle would suffice. That bugs me... Great comparison video, I'd like to see the PS in real life and compare.
love this guy. so much character!
Great video Rory... Absolutely in love with AutoTrader! Also, this is the exact same location featured in some Carwow videos :D

These are both great cars. I'm glad there are more BEV options. The world need this. A couple of points: the Model 3 also has vegan interior and you can use voice commands for many controls in the Model 3, including opening the glove box.
we visited there last Oct. & it was awesome.. i've ordered the tri motor fsd ct & i can't wait for it to get here!! I may buy the S or the Y in the meantime..i got lots of solar & back up battery system as well. i love spaceX
This is the kind of review that gives very proper context. Thank you Rory and AutoTrader!!! Polestar is so far the only available EV other than a Tesla (of course) that I would consider buying. Keep it up Polestar, you’re going in the right direction.
You jumped the start on both occasions!
I have owned both cars, M3 for 2 years and now the P2. Here is my view: Polestar likes: - Looks fab especially with ‘Thunder’ colour choice. - Lovely, quality interior. - Solid, ‘cocoon’ like driving experience (see below). - Strong regen ‘braking’ allowing single pedal drive. - Comfortable for rear passengers - Dash screen with map - Frameless door mirrors - 360 camera view Dislikes: - Lacks Tesla overall ‘Fun factor’. - Despite it’s power, lack of engaged driving experience. Odd accelerator pedal feel: harder to press and not smooth responsive increase in power like the Tesla. The feel of speed is less, the steering is not so crisp 3 and you are more remote from the outside. P2 is just, well like driving a car. - Need more driver adjustment in Semi-auto drive mode ie. pointless so adaptive cruise only useful option. - No ability to watch movies/tv and if there was, the screen is too small for it anyway. Without having watched a movie in a Tesla you would likely think, why would you want to do that?! - Downloadable game completely rubbish compared to Tesla driving car game. - No Fireplace mode. Perfect after a chilly Open Water swim! - No satellite google maps view. - No graphical display of anticipated energy use when navigating to a destination. - No in-car ability to set charging times. - Old fashioned non-flush exterior door handles, cheap old style interior handles and air vents. - No ability to remotely move car forward or back with the key or phone. Useful to gain access to boot if parked close to garage door or in a tight parking space. - Poor rear view. So to sum up : The Polestar is a gorgeous car inside & out, It looks and feels the business! But it’s just a car. In contrast, the Tesla transforms driving from an otherwise mundane A-B necessity into a fun, engaging experience. It made me actually look forward to my daily commute, something which just can’t be overstated.
Awesome comparison. I try hard to not be biased as a Tesla owner who is well aware of its features. I just checked out the market before upgrading to a Y. Nothing comes REMOTELY close. Polestar has built 1.5% as many cars as Tesla. Tesla is about to open more gigafactories and pushing engineering and design with casting and structural batteries inc FSD. At this point catching up is not even a possibility without major exponential growth. It seems the persistent build quality click bait articles will sway others away. But the soon to be 5 Teslas that my extended family will have owned. 3 early model 3s have not spent ONE day in a workshop. only some minor warranty work that was performed from home servicing. Insane really. I am happy to recommend a Tesla to anyone, you might get a creaky panel but at least you don’t get engine. DPF, transmission, leaks, brake issues as most modern cars are having (and also prone to creaky panels)
Regarding the points about 10 minutes in, Telsa actually scores quite poorly for things like AEB so it may follow a road well but don't trust it to stop an accident. The LKA etc in the Polestar probably isn't meant as soft autopilot but as a safety feature to avoid dangerous incidents. It's easy to confuse ADAS with autonomous driving. I'm loving Rory's new videos on this channel!
The polestar just has better quality all over, the seats are great and the Harman Kardon sound system is perfect. I guess it's all down to preference and priorities
The sound system in the M3LR and M3P is insane, trust me. The sub shakes the whole car, in a good way in my M3P.
The shot you got at 3:00 is dope!
That was a great review! Thank you
I gave you a thumbs up for avoid hitting the deer. For me, your the man .

Great review!! Enjoyed
Watched this with headphones. The way Rory made me jump when he screamed for the deer!
I owned a Tesla Model 3 for almost 1.5 years and tried this week the Polestar 2. The only substantial difference, for me at least, is the charging infrastructure. The access, availability, and integration with the map system are just brilliant and the most thoughtful move that Tesla did early on. Acceleration is fine with any electric car that I tried because of how the electric motor works, top speed is not that important to me. In my experience with Tesla model 3, I never charged more than 115 KW/h, therefore the 150 KW/h limit of Polestar is fine with me. I live in Germany and I traveled to Dresden, Amsterdam, North Italy etc. If widely available charging infrastructure will be made possible for Polestar as well as any not tesla car in a similar fashion it will be the beginning of a new transportation revolution .. and this is also good for Tesla to keep them motivated to improve their products. For instance, I hate the limited access to Workshop to fix even the smallest things such as body scratch etc. And the app makes everything super annoying IMHO
Polestar also has no room, inside, so cramped and interior feels much cheaper than Tesla and people say Tesla interior is bad.
This comparison is so beautifully done 😍😍😍😍
I would say one thing you forgot to add, the Polestar 2 has a leg up on the towing capacity. I believe the model 3 is only 1000kgs tow limit meaning it can pull a very lightweight 2 berth caravan or a trailer tent, where as I believe the Polestar has a towing limit of 1500kg which means it could quite easily tow a 4 berth Caravan such as my Abi Jubilee Courier or even a Bailey Ranger.

One pedal driving worked pretty much perfectly on the Polestar 2 that i drove. Very well implemented, with just the right level of deceleration to a stop. Someone forgot to turn off "creep" i guess. Would be nice if someone did a review comparing the Model 3 LR with the standard model Polestar 2, since those are the variants that will sell in bigger numbers.
Not even a guess, it's shown as clear as day on the screen because it's RIGHT NEXT TO the OPD setting. This guy is either blind, stupid, or wilfully misleading. Given that he even uses the word creep when talking about it, I suspect the latter.
I liked the video and watched just because of your awsome lightning reflexes

I love that finally all other car manufacturers are jumping on the electric bandwagon. I only really see the big German car companies rivalling Tesla. VW is in the best position to rival Tesla. I don't see Polestar being a superior choice to either the Model 3 or Y. I mean it honestly gets blown out the water, its not even close from a technical standpoint. Tesla has the best engineers and they have a substantial lead in the industry from a technology stand point. Will be interesting to see what Audi and VW can bring in the next 5 years.
We'll wait and see what the new Škoda ENYAQ has for us:)
@@jakubterchovan7557 That's imho the best looking new EV. The VW ID4 is ugly AF. The Enyaq is simply beautiful! I love it!
Have you seen lucid? The car seems to be awesome. If they have something more affordable down the line they could be an interesting alternative to tesla.
I think it'll be the Chinese manufacturers who catch up before the traditional European and US auto makers. They already have the EV stuff and reliability nailed - they sell in big volunteers in the home market. Now they just need to put the fancy dress on it so that we perceive then as equally high quality.

Looks good . Important numbers are range, reload time and price. Does anyone really care about 0.4 sec faster acceleration?
Yep. Loads. Especially when we are talking about the 2-4 second acceleration spectrum. Which can only be compared to cars in the 6 or 7 figure price spectrum
@@ceibavinciguerra1236 so there are loads of people spending 6-7 figures on a electric car?
I’m comparing these as my next purchase. The answer is, no: I care not for 0-100km/h times nor top speed. I’d probably lose my license if I started testing. I’m looking at build quality, reliability, comfort, aftersales... Charging atm here is nowhere as complete as Euro or NA, but it’s improving.
I've got a Model 3 Dual Motor (non-Performance) that I've had for about 2 years now. I'd still pick it over the Polestar, but I do like the look of the Polestar a little bit better. If the "improved" aesthetic was more important to me, I could see buying the Polestar if I was making that decision today. This is the first EV that I can say that about.
Really? There’s nothing about the look of the Polestar that is more exciting or different than just your average car on the road. The Model 3 has a unique and instantly recognizable look
@@mitchellp7739 It's completely subjective and irrational, but I just like the looks of the PS2 marginally better. But I've come to realize that I'm much more a "function over form" guy and that the way something looks, particularly if it's designed a particular way to achieve a performance goal (like a cd of .23) is just isn't that important to me. Now that being said, I don't like the faux grill look and I do like the hatchback, but that's really where the Model Y would fit in for me. The point of the original post was really to point out that this one is at least close enough of measurable metrics to at least consider.
ANY THOUGHTS ON THE NEW LUCID AIR ?
@@buba_Dukz I'm kind of indifferent at this point on the styling of the Lucid; maybe after seeing it more I'll develop a somewhat stronger opinion one way or the other. I am however ecstatic that there looks to be another EV that might actually "compete" with something from Tesla. The thing is, it's not going to pull nearly as many sales away from say the Model S as it will otherwise comparable ICE vehicles.
Fully agree with your statement. The polestar looks great, but the Model 3 still wins in terms of technical capabilities (faster, lighter, better range, more efficient)
5:00 got something a bit wrong here. The polestar 2 does have a one-pedal drive but it also has a creep mode. When creep is active it simply means the car will keep creeping forward at a low speed. You can see it being active in the bottom right of the screen.
Hi Rory, I could be wrong, but did you mention any crash test stats or safety stat comparisons?
When he said OK google, my phone also responded 😂😂
Its good to see that other car makers are taking EV's seriously. So far we've been getting half-assed attempts like the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Bolt.
Preach 😂 it’s crazy and those car maker got more $ more resources more experiences and gives us bullshit car 🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@theoneaboveall6768 Its all about volume. You may have heard that both GM and Ford have cut almost all of the sedans and hatchbacks out of their lineup. They're focusing on trucks, SUVs and crossovers because they're higher volume. EV's only make up about 2.5% of the new car market. So its only natural that they're not interested in it. Big companies only make EV's to appear to care about the environment.
The better launch is extremely impressive! Especially considering it's inferior 0-60. After all, the launch is what counts at a stop light ;)
