The year 2022 produced a record number of stunning knockouts. Over the past 12 months we've witnessed shattering slams, decimating kicks, hurricane-like backfists, and chilling walk-offs. It's time to remember the main characters of those adrenaline-infused blockbusters.

    • It's not always clear when they're out, 10:30 is a prime example. Could have easily been a 1 hit k.o, not only was it not, the dude fought back... It's not always malicious, sometimes you have to finish a stunned opponent

    • @@wilfordbrimley6938 Exactly. It’s one of the biggest controversies within the sport. The majority of fans would like to see fighters “live to fight another day,” and don’t want to see a fighter have their career cut short, and/or end up with brain damage from the unnecessary, extra blows. Unfortunately, they train with a type of mantra that says, “You go, until the ref stops you.” Fighters who are on the smaller end of the pay scale want to make sure their win was decisive, because if they don’t, there’s always a chance that their opponent can come back and win. Such a fine line between do what’s necessary to win, and potentially causing permanent brain damage to your opponent.

Can't dispute that it's a very potent drug in this form. I personally believe that watching fights (like most things) is made better with anticipation and context. I'd rather see a knockout when I don't know I'm about to see one. Something to think about. My only goal is to motivate you to immerse yourself more because you'll be glad you did.

Suga has been confident enough to do one a tad early, as a courtesy to his opponent, in a show of confidence, only to have the ref say to fight on after; so Suga had to smack the guy again later. • Ya go until the fight is stopped...period! Plenty a fighters got fucked cuz they were trying to be nice bout shit, and thats all good, but dont count on the ref or anyone other than yourself to get the job done and done right. Refs have missed plenty of calls in the past, next thing ya know dude getting back up, or round ends with fight not ended by the ref, whatever it is the refs arent bad by any means but it is just gonna happen even if you were perfect... Now if they are 100% out cold, eyes either closed or rolled back, with basically zero movement other than involuntary ones like breathing or at the other end of the spectrum where they are either "convulsing" or "fencing" that is not good and no need to hit them at all at that point. But if the ref isn't going to end it then ya gotta do what ya gotta do...Smoke em with one solid shot and look at the ref, put it on them to decide if it over or this shit...... Here it is, just dont throw bombs on them fucking them all up. Be precise, sharp and most of all be accurate, pepper them with shots to the face but just enough snap on your **** to get the ref to do their fuckin job! The fighter's job is to put on a show and always be looking for that moment to try to finish fights. The refs are there to keep it clean and safe; each has a role to play; so play your role and know your roll refs...

  • I knew 8:35 was no ordinary liver shot the amount of speed and power behind it was mind-blowing. Then it showed the x rays 5 broken ribs! What people seem to forget is the kind of power and damage one kick or punch can do. With trained pros those stakes go up 3 fold.

    • Agreed. Anyone that trains in any kickboxing discipline can learn how to throw the techniques, but landing them with any accuracy requires a ton of dexterity and precision.

    • I agree with you on the head kicks, but the flying knee I dont, anyone can do a flying need if you have the muscles to jump forward, the spining kicks and all that, yeah, most of them are just luck or skill, not the knees

  • It's kind of wild how MMA incorporated a lot of the kicks and punches that were once thought to be reserved for movies and other fictional combat environments. It's pretty crazy. Thing is, the only way fighters unlocked these spectacular moves was a consequence of fighters developing strong wrestling and jiu-jitsu abilities. The practical threats from being a good wrestler and a good jiu-jitsu practitioner are what fighters needed to get them the space they required to do all of these spectacular strikes.
