The Kumaar Family tried Ramadan fasting for 24 hours! We wanted to see what it was like to be a Muslim in Malaysia. We woke in the middle of the night for Sahur, then attempted to go without food or water all day until night time before Iftar. This is our experience as a family!
Thanks for watching! We are Logesh, Rachel, Zaden and Kyren from the Kumaar Family.

Also Ramadhan teaches self-control and self discipline from other temptations, meaning you need to restrain yourself from saying, doing or watching anything that is sinful 😬. Oh and another tip Logesh, most muslims workout like an hour or so before breaking fast, so maybe you can try that next year 🥰

  • I remembered when I fasted during Ramadan, and there are many times I actually skipped sahor; but I drank a lot of water before the fast. Now (though I slack of late) I am getting back into intermittent fasting, where though it is not as long as Ramadan, but the discipline that gives the stomach a break and concentrate on most of the work helped. Kudos for taking on the challenge too! And yes, fasting + exercise is not a good combination haha.

  • So proud of you guys! My go-to sahur "meal" is almond milk+banana+dates smoothie. I use unsweetened almond milk because the banana and dates are natural sweeteners. Can't stand overly sweet smoothies hehe. Super simple to prepare, takes all of 3-5 minutes to prepare, goes down easy and quick, so I can hurry up and get back to bed. Lol. The best thing is that it's low GI, packed with high fibre, plant-based, gluten & dairy-free (although I'm not particular about this), nutritious and DELICIOUS. You can last longer through the day, and if you add chia seeds with it, it'll help keep you hydrated longer as well. That's my Ramadan sahur trick. 😄

  • good job guys 🎊🎊 even we, the muslim kids were taught slow at first, like a half day fasting or with no food only. and us muslims also did the intermittent fasting before the ramadhan month came, and especially for a few days before the real month, as in to prepare our body and stomach for the 30days to come. fasting for me is like rachel, i'll be okay throughout the day but i'll be parched by the end of the day, yet still not enough water for me 😂 on caffeine, my dad is also a consumer, so my mum will made one for him during sahoor and iftar, but really, before sleeping he'll drink like another 2 glasses just to get back that caffeine level into his body 😅

  • 1 tip for you is get a full length sleep normally 8 hours before suhur. it will make your body ready through out the day and you will not be sleepy. high caffeine is also will cause of thirsty and headache. it is normal for day 1 fasting. if you need time to prepare suhur, have to get up early. if you are like me, i prep my meal earlier and just heat it with microwave. simple. leftover iftar meal last night is also good and fast to eat.

  • Good Job Logesh and Rachel . Logesh you're a Coffeholic just like me so what i did is , during Sahur take Coffee just like breakfast of normal days and 3 Dates is The Best as it provides enough energy for the day and when breaking fast (Iftar) take 1 Dates with Water because Dates has it owns Sweet take oir body needs to replace the lost energy of the day . Why I say 1 dates instead of 3 is because 1 is good enough to give you just nice energy till night before going to bed . For Medical sight to have protection from having Heart problem ,its the best to take 7 dates every morning on empty stomach. Well what ever it is so happy to see both of you doing it. Stay Blessed and Happy😊🇲🇾

I love the fusion Malay , Indian, Chinese, Indonesian and others cuisines . I am a man of muslim background . It is great to see young people with an open mind. I noticed the religious tolerance when i was in Malaysia. Thailand too is a very tolerant country. Tip when fasting last meal around 10 PM until breaking the fast ( almost 20 hours depending where one lives) I do every day intermittent fasting ( 18 hours some days 20 to 22 hours ) Lost weight and my focus is getting much better each day. • I am a coffee person too. Must have it every morning before work. In Ramadan, the first few days are a bit challenging but soon it will be ok. For energy, you may want to blend the dates - usually 7 - with cool fresh milk during sahoor. Can add some ice too to make it more delicious. That is enough. No food is needed.

I feel it is a way to call down the powers of heaven in your life or another’s. I like to fast with a purpose such as health for a friend, or passing my next nursing exam. That way during my fast when my stomach growls I remember what it is for and ask God for this blessing. Whatever the reason for the fast I feel closer to God and I feel his divine influence in my life! I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and we fast once a month. It is for a full 24 hours or two consecutive meals… and I agree with you-WATER FIRST!!! I love your content!! Blessing to you and your family!! Thank you!!!

What Allah commands to us we have to obey. Ramadan is not ONLY for fasting but also correct ourselves (forgiveness), and help poor people as much as we can, and so on.

  • i normally drink 4 cups of coffee daily and caffeine used to be my problem as well during Ramadhan. To adjust my body, a week before Ramadhan, I gradually reduce my coffee intake down to 1 coffee a day. So, when Ramadhan starts, I dont get any headache or feel tired. Secondly, you thought that fasting for 30 days will be difficult. But I think it is the opposite. If you can fast for 2-4 days in a row, fasting longer will get easier, not harder, as your body is already regulated for fasting. You wont even remember it is lunch time when you are at 12 noon.

  • That's crazy that you guys managed to do it for the whole day! Most people can't even imagine going the whole day without food, water, cigarettes etc. You hit the nail on the head with all the correct information. Its very tough to get up in the morning and then there is no appetite. Then its hard to get back to sleep as well. The good thing is that if you work the whole day, it keeps your mind off the food. The key is that you eat for iftaar, then a couple hours later have a snack, coffee, tea. For night owls, they'll keep eating into the night and sleep late. For me, the toughest part was no coffee or tea in the morning just like you. But once the first couple of days are done, i feel like i can fast the whole year. Again, you guys are the best for trying this fasting out to show your solidarity with your Muslim friends!

Have my meal for next 20-25mins (best one I have found is whole rice and curry with some curd). Found this routine best for hot summer weather back in india. More than hunger it is thirst that is to be controlled.

  • here's the thing about dates for sahur. it's not for everyone especially for those who's learning to fast. it's a muslim thing called sunnah where we try to emulate our prophet's deeds. while it does provide nutritional values you should eat whatever works for you to go thru your day. you're right though it'll get easier after a week when your body is getting used to it. anyway good job with the experiment!

  • For me its the sleep interruption but sahur is part of the reward from Allah. It is an experience from Day 1 till now. Its great to see u guys trying it out even if its for a day. I hope the lessons of feeling hunger n thirst helps us all to be better human beings in the long run. Muslims also fast now n then outside of Ramadan. To reap more benefits for the body and soul throughout the year. Btw... Kudos to Rachel, especially♥️

  • I remember reading some pointers from somebody who does this type of fast. The recommendations are to reduce your daily caffeine intake gradually over the few days prior to the fast, and drink a lot of water (and maybe electrolyte drinks) the day before, and before sunrise to prevent dehydration.

  • The first three days are the hardest, hungry and thirsty but after that you get use to it. Just imegine many out there do no have food to eat or has a little, fasting will teach you to appreciate the wealth we have and to share with others

  • Dalam ramai-ramai non muslim yang buat challenge puasa ni, i guess this couple doing great. Most of others yang try puasa, diaorang bangun terlalu awal untuk sahur. like 3 am. padahal sepatutnya untuk sahur, bangun 4.30 am, 4.45 am or maybe 5 am, just nice for sahur. So that, bila kita makan & minum waktu camni, tak terlalu awal dan tak terlalu lambat juga. Rasa nak safe mood jer. 😅 Apa yang korang rasa macam like bibir kering or sleepy, then rasa tak ada selera nak makan masa sahur, itu normal time puasa. Saya sendiri pun camtu. Nak atau taknak, paksa juga makan supaya perut tak masuk angin bila terlalu kosong. Btw, you can drink coffee for sahur after eat you meal. Saya pun suka coffee. Bila nak avoid rasa macam teringin nak minum coffee during waktu puasa sehari, saya akan minum waktu sahur + air kosong. It is okay. Nothing wrong with that. Cuma for muslim, for your info, muslim digalakkan lebih buat perkara2 yang baik, termasuk baca Al-Quran dan dekatkan diri dengan Allah, like solat dan sedekah, jaga bahasa, not saying bad words & lain-lain. Sebab pahala dibulan puasa lebih berganda-ganda. Anyway, good job for both of you doing great in puasa. Proud of you both 👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️

  • I do loves coffee n tea. But not very addicted. N for Ramadan, i can't drink coffee. It will ruin my sleep time 😂 N now kinda struggle to not drink one. Just wait for Eid, so i can enjoy the coffee in the morning again. Well it's because I'm easily affected by the caffeine. Usually if i drink coffee after 9pm, I'll only get to sleep after 3 am.

  • *Fasting is not just abstaining your stomach from food and water.* *When a person fasts, his eyes are also fasting, which means he does not look/watch at evil and forbidden things. His ears are also fasting, which means he does not hear evil things such as back biting, cussing etc. If there is a place where this is happening, you simply stop them or walk away from there. And hence your feet are also fasting, which means, you walk away from the place where evil things happen. Your hands are also fasting, which means you don't cause harm to anyone with your hands - and most importantly (and perhaps the most TOUGHEST one) - Your tongue is also fasting, which means, you control your anger, you don't say words that could hurt anyone even though they may be true. You don't back bite, you don't cuss out, you don't scream, you don't speak a lie. Your heart is also fasting, which means you take out any malice and clean it from everything and you forgive people who have done injustice to you, just for the sake of Allah.* *Ramdhan is a month of practice where Muslims are supposed to practice and develop these traits and then try to live the remaining 11 months the same way as they did in Ramdhan, till the month of practice comes again. All the best to you.*
