One time was all she needed to say it to break our hearts
saving it for the end so as to say “i’m finally awake.”
That's a key part of the feeling of the original as well, but occurs repeatedly. Kelly left it for the perfect moment for this style.
The “I’m not blind anymoree” (1:38) caught me off guard. It was such a great way to reinvent the song and sounded so powerful.

I wasn't a fan of it. While it's extremely technically sound and executed very well, I don't think that key jump matches the tone of the song. The rendition is very emotional and defeated and wilted and that key jump made it sound like a cliché pop song and Katy already made that.

We can praise her skill as a singer all day, but we need to talk about her amazing ability to emote. Her performance was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. She was feeling every word she was singing.

To me, the reason her covers hit so much harder than the originals in many cases is because I feel she has this extreme gift to interpret music the way it should be sung. That’s just my opinion

I totally agree. I usually don't like performers as they tend to "oversing" everything (Jessie J, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera...) but Kelly Clarkson is the only one who does it right (for my taste at least 😄). So many nuances in her voice, no unnecessary embellishments... Love her and this cover!

No, no way. Never. Dua Lipa is a normal singer who needs to improve her belting, head voice, pitch, and breath support (she has much better lung capacity than the last couple years but still needs to improve her breath control). Kelly on the other hand, has no “weak” register and not much she has to improve on if she even has any.

Thank you for including the name of the pianist and musical director, Jason Halbert. He is most defintely a gifted pianist, truly letting Kelly Clarkson shine in her moment.
