  • The way they utilized the motor for panorama and object tracking is amazing. Even though this is supposed to be workaround for avoiding notch, they went beyond just that.

    • Agreed, I don't use panorama often, but I would with this feature. Best part about this phone is the clean software. For $500 it's a winner for sure.

    • Yeah, I very rarely take panoramas purely because of how inconvenient and annoying it is to do on a normal phone. But this swiveling camera not only makes it a lot easier, but it also guarantees a _perfect_ panorama every time. That's so cool. I'm sold.

It doesn't block the screen in any way, and it is actually an improvement in many ways since it uses same quality camera as the rear cameras. This even more apparently when they added panoramic functionality to the mechanism. I hardly ever take selfies, so i'd rather just have something like this than have a permanent notch on my screen. • Thank you, Marques for highlighting the unique features of the Asus Z6 swivel camera..I am a camera savvy guy, but was confused over many phones in this price range. I actually had SAMSUNG SGH-X600 way back in 2005..it had manual swivel camera and I took a selfie in 2006 which my friends still asks who was the camera man! So, it may be homecoming for me in terms of the swivel camera on smartphone :)

Any movements by your hands cause blur and OIS stops the movement. If you've got a phone that doesn't have OIS you'll know just how unreliable the camera is. It might take a good photo but usually it's blurry, missing detail and looks like a photo from an old old phone from 2009.

  • Actually selecting an angle is pretty cool feature, if you want to take landscape photo at low angle, close to water or something like that. You're not going to lay down so that you could see composition better. This helps with that. You can flip it 90 degrees and look directly onto screen.

  • I actually do like the motor sounds. I find it very futuristic and robotic to hear. It's like the added sounds on TV shows/movies, you can still hear HDD spindle sounds etc. Gives the product a tactile type response that something is happening.

  • Why so worried about motorized parts? How many times have you opened/closed a CD tray? Or inserted/ejected a Bluray? Or zoomed a lens on a camera. Motorized parts don't immediately mean it's "not practical for long-term future solutions".

    @TrevHolland@TrevHolland5 жыл бұрын
    • The motors on CD/DVD/BLURAY drives are much more robust and definitely not comparable to a thin/small one like you'd find in a cellphone, and the zoom on a camera lens is more often than not a manually driven mechanical part so there's no motor to fail. Even the screw motor in the Oneplus will be 3 times better than this actuator based on the bold but unsubstantiated claim of 100,000 from ASUS and the substantiated one from Oneplus.

    • @@boltmix7294 fact? How do you know it's a fact? Have you completed those folds? Lol 4 devices, 2 peeled ok, one guy didn't put clay inside, it was used as a base. If. Dirt gets into there that easily and causes that much damage, that's retarded. I love the last one you mentioned "for UKNOWN REASONS", so if all other 3 you claim are at fault, that means one of every four devices (25 percent) are defective. Makes no sense bud. Don't tell anything is a fact until it's been tried and tested.

  • I have a Mi Mix 2S which keeps the selfie cam in the chin. I originally figured it was nbd because I rarely use selfies, but when I do, it's a PITA to have to flip the phone around and you need to think for a bit about why the image is all messed up. This seems like a better solution in a similar space - the high spec, design forward budget flagship, and the shift towards pure android is a great change.
