In today's video, we take a look at the competitive world of Sailor Moon S and the story of how an obscure fighting game that is so absurdly unbalanced to the point of being "broken" began its rise as an esport.

      @Raytheman581@Raytheman5812 жыл бұрын
    • @Shin Shaman I'm not comparing them at all, i'm addressing a comment that said nothing about the sailormoon game, the comment was about supposed bad games. It was a general comment about games people found trash, and at one point people found MVC2 trash. Its funny how people try to judge someone's whole character off one comment about a game. I could say the fact that you can't spell correctly means you're in 4th grade and that tells me all I need to know about you, but that'd be stupid and a jump to conclusions. Then again looking at your channel you seem to get off on vids calling things garbage. So it seems like you don't really like discussions and instead like ways to write someones opinion off cause it doesn't fit your own.

      @Raytheman581@Raytheman5812 жыл бұрын
    • @Shin Shaman Both Sailor Moon S and MvC2 are cheaply made kusoge, and that’s what makes them som great. The things that made both of these games so enduring was never intended game design, it was players breaking them to find a hidden gem underneath. When MvC2 first released, when players where still trying to play it ”as intended” within the boundaries of its intended game design, most players hated it; and rightfully so, as it’s just a cheaply thrown together game made up of 90% stripped down art assets from other games. But once players started to find ways to play it beyond what was intended, they found layers of depth that where never even meant to be there. That’s what made it a legendary game, just like Sailor Moon S.

      @CrossfacePanda@CrossfacePanda2 жыл бұрын
    • @Shin Shaman It doesn’t just take assets from CotA and the Marvel games, though. It also take sprites from the SF Alpha, CvS and Darkstalkers games, removes frames from their animations, and the just add them all together into a single game with some quickly made 3D backgrounds. I like MvC2 as much as the next person, but pretending like it’s anything more than just a mish mash of assets hastily thrown together in less than a year, filled with more glitches and bugs than even its predecessors, is just silly. Heck, for whatever it’s worth, Sailor Moon S has more original art assets than MvC2 does. I’m not saying one is better than the other, because that’s subjective. But both are most defintiely buggy kusoges. You don’t have to let your nostalgia blind you to reality, nor does seeing the game for what it is mean you can’t enjoy it. The way you keep acting like it’s some artistic peak in game design is kinda embarassing, especially since the majority of what makes it great was by pure chance and unintended.

    • I hadn't heard of this game until now but as someone that's only very briefly played Super Smash Brothers competitively, I have to ask what's the most insane BS you've seen from this game? Like broken/absurdly OP things. Btw have you heard of Digimon Rumble Arena 2? It's like a mix of Playstation Battle All Stars and Super Smash Brothers. It's a game where every character is so inherently broken and has a number of infinite/zero to death combos (it runs on a health system) or spammable moves it turns back into being balanced. The only character that's slightly more OP than the others is Diaboromon which has a spammable ranged attack that covers 1/4 of the entire stage. It's so bad and broken it transcends itself into becoming laughably amazing. The physical game disks are expensive, since it's obscure as hell, but was released for PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube so it's easy to get a copy of the game to a usb drive to play it.

    • @@empoleonmaster6709 I mean, there's numerous things. Sailor Mercury being able to counter hit kill 70% damage with her desperation was definitely one of the first moments the scene here realized how nuts the game could be. But really, you have the Uranus infinite (and the wide arrays in which they can be executed), the Jupiter 100% combo, the Chibi infinite backdash that stick out as the craziest things that exist. But the crazy part for me is that for the most part, there's answers to deal with every piece of that from every character. some of it requires matchup experience, others still require mechanical knowledge of the engine, and others just require just unlearning bad habits from every game. It keeps the game being absolutely busted and revolving solely around one single piece of tech.

      @SMRTMinako@SMRTMinako2 жыл бұрын
    • @@SMRTMinako I have to ask, what do you even do after the Chibi infinite backdash? Isn't your opponent just waiting until you stop so they can punish you?

      @empoleonmaster6709@empoleonmaster67092 жыл бұрын
    • @@empoleonmaster6709 That depends on the scenario: If you have the life lead, what do you have to do but continue doing it? The one way they can mess up your inputs if you have the rhythm down is to cross you up, but there is an OS for making sure backdash occurs on either side by moving the joystick left and right, and allow that to buffer. If you don't have the life lead, you can proceed to either mix them up with butt slam, slide and throw if they're in close, or wait until end of round where you get desperation and spam it out of backdash cancels and double jumps. These two strategies have literally allowed Chibi to steal sets when used in conjunction with her infinite backdash.

  • Just saw this game today on this channel. I am a huge Sailor Moon fan, and this brings a smile to me as I’ve only played the adventure beat em up game that was based on the first season. I’ve always wanted Naoko Takeuchi to make a fighting game for Sailor Moon that matches Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball Z. Never would I have thought that Arc System had actually made it when I was a kid. Sadly, it did not come to the states and I was still a kid then. I’m surprised to see so many men playing a game “that’s for girls”. My father hated me watching Sailor Moon. He was so machismo that he said it would turn me “gay”watching Sailor Moon. Though being Mexican, he used a harsher word. As I am older and wiser now, I don’t care about his ideals and bullshit anymore. Just so glad to see this game and how everyone is actually playing it especially to put it on e sports. It’s fantastic and I hope I get to see more of this game. Hopefully maybe even get a huge makeover. Thanks for this.

But the meta requires you understand guard canceling, backdashing, and how the input buffer works; if you dont, you're gonna have a bad time. You can fight Chibi infinite backdash. Can't wait for the new Melty as well. Thank you for this video Akshon. #French-Bread/NewSailorMoonFG

    • @@Se7enRemain Same here. After watching what French-Bread is capable of making with their fighting games, I'm putting my money on them if they ever decide to release a Sailor Moon fg. Not on Capcom or Arc System Works even tho Arc sys produce beautiful 3D models that give the appearance of 2D, I love the art that they used for UNIS and MBTL. Heck, i will still buy it if they go full meme and do it a little unbalanced since this is the appeal of this game but still, one can only dream.

As good as this game is, I think the game GUNDAMWING THE ENDLESS DUEL also from SFamicom, is an even deeper and more adictive fighting game. Not to mention , is best looking.

  • Great video, was really interesting. Just to add my two cents, I was never a big fighting game fan, if you're outside looking in it all seems very confusing and intimidating. And not to get hyperbolic but it seemed almost like trying to speak another language, where you would struggle to get up and just do an uppercut where as the comp would just rush up and infinite combo you into the ground. That said, my friend and I found this game randomly, thought we'd do a couple rounds as a joke then go out for dinner or something. We found ourselves playing it from 4PM and went on to 2AM without realizing it. The whole thing was a blast! It was just so accessable for us, and it also got us in a fighting game mind set that we didn't have before.

A good number of them were definitely NSFW and NOT appropriate for a kid but I managed to find it in the rest of the mess. Also found a Gundam Wing Super Famicom title in that folder. It is amazing to see it has a community now! I had no idea it was rare or special since I played it as a random emulator so long ago. Now I really want to pick it up and try playing again.

  • Seeing a game like this become so big gives me hope for a bunch of smaller fighting game series' to become bigger. Games like DOA, Last Blade 2, etc are all good, but are ignored either due to being written off for one reason or another, or are just not as well known. Melty Blood was also in a similar situation, but is starting to become more mainstream because of Type Lumina.

    • The rights holders are HELLA protective of them. And there's a litany of rights holders for various aspects of the Sailor Moon franchise. I think if there were the opportunity for someone to want to make a Sailor Moon fighter in the modern era (Most likely ASW would want to undertake it), they'd have to talk to the rights holders for console/PC gaming for the franchise, which I think MIGHT be different than the rights holder for mobile games (IIRC Bandai Namco). Even for Sailor Moon to happen at Evo Japan 2020, the organizer (DBCade) had to sniff out the rights holders for the title and get permission from them and I think Naoko Takeuchi's company. They don't really bother with underground stuff in NA, but in their home territory it's really hard, else Evo Japan either wouldn't have let the tournament happen or let it be streamed.
