An overview of every Sailor Moon game. Note: I didn't play all of them.
The aim was to make a video that wasn't as in-depth as a retrospective but has more information than those gameplay montage videos.

    • And loads more were on japanese computers. I recognise some of the Sega Pico games, which were ported to PC-98 or FM Towns (or were very similar), and my wife has couple of them in her collection. But after decades in storage, these floppy disks are probably all corrupted anyway.

  • For years I've wanted 2 specific Sailor Moon games to be made: 1) Sailor V. The arcade game was such a focus, why did they never bother to try and recreate it as its own game?? Baffling 2) A TRPG/chess-like game in which the inner/outer senshi can move around the board and defeat lesser mooks, but they have to protect Sailor Moon and weaken the big bad (member of the opposing team) so that Sailor Moon can deliver the coup de grace. I think it would really be in the spirit of the original anime and would be an interesting way to adapt that feeling

    • I was thinking something along the lines of Blue Reflection by Gust. It is basically a Sailor Moon homage and modern JRPG by developer of Atelier series. Or, somehing like Sakura Wars/Valkyria Chronicles.

  • Hahaha, you used my laggy footage of Horoskop and Games. xD I guess Rei is on the cover because she's spiritual and does fortune teling, so that kinda fits the theme. She even had a tarot card deck with a magazine explaining it in Germany.^^ Yeah, it's a pity the game doesn't have music. It's not that special in general, but it's the only Sailor Moon game I own so far. It probably was way cooler back in the day, when computers were kinda new. Very interesting video, it's so cool hearing all these funfacts about the games. It must've been so much work.

  • I remember playing some of these back in February of 1999. I discovered ROMs and emulators for the first time. I played the Super Famicom fighting games. I laughed so hard. I called them cash grabs and cheap attempts to rip off Street Fighter II and Double Dragon. I got to play the English patch of Final Fantasy 5 then, and it was one of the happiest times of my life. Hearing the main theme instantly takes me back. It feels like waking up fully rested, seeing a beautiful sunrise, and feeling perfect weather. I live in the USA, but I called that version "Mega Drive" because it was called a Mega Drive game. It's why I called the SNES versions the Super Famicom version. Years later I played the Another Story RPG English patch and liked it a little. When I met a team of Sailor Senshi cosplayers and we had a great time, they asked where to go next. I told them that I never heard of Opposite Senshi cosplay. I suggested they they try the Super Famicom Another Story RPG. I described the Opposito Senshi as the evil twin cliche from a variety of movies. I enjoyed the arcade game on MAME back in 2001. Gazelle was from former Toaplan? Some people might not remember Toaplan. However, many remember "All your base are belong to us!" I wanted to visit Japan for a long time, but Sailor Moon was not a leading reason. In 1989, the Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo went on sale and I instantly wanted one. I was 5. Turbo power sounded like magic back then, so twin turbo power could only be more magical. From 1989 to 1994, our teachers tried to motivate us bratty kids by saying "Japan is 10 years in the future, work harder and catch up." Decades later, I realized that they had at least one picture of Shibuya Crossing. Everything is super efficient and reliable? Why is my mom's Nissan Maxima on a tow truck again? How much fuel does a 300ZXTT save? However, that is not to say that Sailor Moon had no influence at all. In 1998, I decided that when I finally take the trip, I am buying a genuine uniform and bringing it home as proof of the trip. Most people do not get why I would want to do that, or they think I would use it to cross dress. 7:55 Well, it was impressive for 1992. As time went on, SNES carts got bigger. Bigger carts cost more to make. Back then, the really epic RPGs cost extra. I remember Final Fantasy 3 (6) was like 70 or 80 dollars when most SNES games were 50.

  • If you ever plan on making part 2, add Panic In Nakayoshi in it. This was already thorough enough as it is, though! It's a bummer that you can't go to the Wayback Machine for really old Shockwave games. There used to be one on the old Toonami/Cartoon Network website where you had Sailor Moon in a colored octagon, and the gameplay was that you were surrounded by enemies from season 1. They were also in colored octagons. In order to attack them, you had to match their color to wipe them off the playing field. The game was over when you were overwhelmed and your HP ran out, I think.

  • I really like the concept of pretty anime girls fighting like men, it can be cute or cool or surprising or funny or an impressive work of animation, and I feel sad that after Sailor Moon ran it's course the concept of a game where magical girls beat up evil with their fisticuffs basically died off then and there. There were early Precure games that were beat em ups but they were a flash in the pan and the rest were simple gimmicky minigame collections. Even then, the franchise had been shying away from the more violent aspects of the magical girl genre for awhile now. Sailor Moon's peak was a pretty radical time where people were trying a bit of everything with the brand and its derivatives, the beat em ups and fighting games showed that its appeal could be universal and transformative and there was bravery and faith on the behalf of the people who developed those games. I wish there were something like a Sailor Moon beat em up could come out these days.

  • Whaaaaaaat seeing Zoicite looking all manly and paired up with Mercury in that one art is honestly.. a little bit soul crushing😭 I never knew there was such a difference between the manga and anime. Honestly? Gotta side with the anime version. I loved Nephrite's little redemption arc, plus Zoicite and Kunzite being gay lovers was HUGE for me as a queer kid in the 90s when representation was sparse. Having them paired off with the scouts in their past lives really... takes away from that imo.. but hey, it is what it is🤷‍♂️ Okay I'm done blabbing lol. Im really enjoying the video!

    @criminalsen2441@criminalsen24414 ай бұрын
    • I agree the queer representation in Sailor Moon means a lot to me too. Don't worry about it too much it's a very minor part of the manga. I think it was included for dramatic irony as Mars is the one that kills Jadeite in the manga.

  • Cool video. I used to have Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon for Mega Drive and I enjoy beat'em'up Sailor Moon games the most (fighting games feel pretty janky), even when they are pretty basic. My wife collects pretty much everything Sailor Moon, so we have RPG entries as well (but no SNES to play them on, so emulation all the way). By the way, there was a slew of edutainment Sailor Moon games for PC-98 and other japanese computers, from typing tutors and basic kanji learning to history or japanese geography. We also have couple of those, on mostly rotten and/or corrupted old floppy disks. I find history ones especially interesting or hillarious (they play Japanese WWII exploits WAY down but always include Hiroshima and Nagasaki), and all of them are quite obscure these days, even in Japan. There seemed to be no limit of licensing Sailor Moon in the 1990s.

  • There was one other Sailor Moon game. "Robot Frenzy" on Web Browser back on the old (and I mean OLD) Cartoon Network website. It was a Shockwave/Flash game where you controlled Moon and Jupiter on a grid and zapped Game Machine Man clones. Wasn't much to it, but it was one of the few Sailor Moon games we ever "got" besides Colorforms and 3D Adventures. I personally would've liked an action game based on the locallized DiC version, but I know there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening. That's what the realm of fan games are for.

    • In the interview Yuno is referring to 2 years ago, which would be 1993. I wanted to include an image of something going on in Japan in that time. I went with Jamiroquai's Japan tour as he was really popular there. Just wanted to throw in a pop culture thing for visual flair. For example, If this was an American interview, I would of went with a Jurassic park poster.

  • Those two animator's names at the beginning feel like the only two names you DIDN'T butcher. When you got to actually referring to the characters (mostly villains) in-game names is where you got almost everyone wrong.
