From what I remember, he had gotten emotional acting out that scene because it had made him think about his own kids. It’s very emotional and the specifics of why he had made that correlation is not something I can talk about without at least rewatching the doc.

I didn't use him much in my playthrough as the others are just much better, but it's worth looking up a compilation of his voice lines if you don't plan on using him much either.

  • The giant bird is a... well, a Giant. She just happens to be a Giant that has the form of a bird. Hræsvelgr (HRAHS-vell-ger) is one of the most ancient Giants we know of, and in the myth he sits at the top of the world tree flapping his wings, creating all the winds of the Nine Realms. In God of War, Hræsvelgr is female (no particular reason, just no reason for her _not_ to be) and she presides in Helheim. Likely because her name can be translated to "corpse eater," or something to that effect. Her role here seems to be largely passive, but perhaps she has some purpose (that may or may not be explained later). It can be surmised that her four massive wings flapping is what caused the freezing blizzard of the realm to begin, and now she sits. Watching over the dead, and their goings-on. And looking fuggin siiiiiiiiick while doing it. She is one of the most massive characters in the series, beaten only by Cronos, Jörmungandr, and _possibly_ the dead giant Thamur. So, fun fact. The devs originally wanted the boss fight here to be against Hræsvelgr instead of Máttugr Helson. Hints of this can be seen in that he is the one controlling the Winds of Hel, though that should be Hræsvelgr's purview. Unfortunately due to time constraints and figuring out how to incorporate her properly, they had to settle for Hræsvelgr just watching the battle from afar. Time constraints are also why there are so many Troll boss fights in this game. Even excluding Máttugr, who is officially classified separately from the other Trolls in terms of importance (in fact, having the same level of importance as the major boss fights like Hræzlyr and the Dark Elf King), there are exactly _nine_ Trolls to fight in the game. Specifically for this reason, the devs tried to have a lot more variation in the next game and even make a joke about it. Valkyries are noticeably large, but the tallest only get to around seven feet tall. Also, you'll want to figure out the shield-bash. That's what they want you to do to break the enemy's guard. I believe there was a tutorial for it early on, but you never really _needed_ to do it until now. If I recall correctly, it's just double-tapping the shield button.

He just says "I know" When you get to Ragnarok and play it's DLC (recommend) it really shows how far he's come and how much he's grown. It's brilliant and it makes him one of my favorite characters ever. One reviewer put it best when it comes to Ragnarok: The game does legitimate legwork to turn one of the most angry and brutal characters, into a compelling and empathetic hero.

  • This is one of my favorite sections to watch in other’s playthroughs of GoW. The acting is superb. The sorrow in Kratos’ voice when he recognizes himself as a monster. I’m also certain that isn’t Athena in Kratos’ head. She is still around somewhere. Come to taunt him when he starts thinking about his past. For most of the game, they make you struggle with the Hel Walkers, then get the Blades of Chaos to feel the immediate difference, cutting them down like grass. They really captured the chaos and destruction of the old games. It’s especially great seeing people who had no idea of Kratos’ past to get to experience the blades first hand. Best part, there was not even a hint you’d get the blades before the game came out. Nothing in ads or trailers. Just an amazing reveal.

  • From the moment Atreus collapses to the moment that Kratos uses the Blades of Chaos for the first time is the best story moment of the game for me. I've been a fan of this franchise since the beginning and to bring those Blades back the way they did was perfect. The music, the dialog, the pacing, the acting, the writing is perfect. Literally couldn't be done any better. There is a documentary of the making of this game on KZhead called Raising Kratos and I highly recommend checking it out once you two finish the game. The show one of the takes filming the motion capture of that scene when Kratos gets the Blades and Christopher Judge is crying while acting out the scene. Also, the foreshadowed the Blades at the beginning of the game. When Kratos lets Atreus out from underneath the floor after the first fight with Baldur. Kratos starts to lower the trapdoor and the camera pans over. You can just see the bottom of the cloth that Blades are wrapped in sticking out of the floorboards.

  • Hey I thought I would drop some tips about armour, since the topic came up in this episode. The fire dimension that you brought up is indeed a great place to go for exp, materials, and for crafting the fire armour sets, they are among some of the best in the game. There is also another dimension, with it's own armour sets, that you unlock in the same way as the fire dimension, with the skull treasure chests, that have the language cipher pieces inside of them. The power of armour and other gear goes from green > blue > purple > gold (the best). If you are worried about certain stats going down, enchantments are mini stat boosters, that can be slotted into armour pieces, in the menu where you equip armour. The better the armour, the more enchantment sockets they will have, 3 being the max per armour piece. You can find enchantments pretty much anywhere, while exploring and doing side quests, or you can buy them in the shop. Exploring the lake, the other dimensions, and side quests are all very good for getting lots of armour materials and enchantments quickly. I hope this helps, enjoying the playthrough a lot.

  • Hey, reminding you to check the Skills tab again. There are special moves that dont require runic. The shield bash to break defenses and shields of enemies are present in the Skills tab. Also each weapon has got its own skill tree. More moves unlock with you upgrading your weapons and you can buy/unlock them with your XP (not hacksilver). Check it out and try to mix up the combat to find what moves works for you and what doesn't. Have noticed that your usage of ranged attacks are low (axe throws, blades whip). They are really helpful for crowd control. Also, your progress into the game was much better than I thought this video would go. But try doing the side quests too, at times. I wouldn't recommend going hard on side quests as it could ruin the final battle for you by being short. But the side quests go a long way to help in the Valkyrie battles (needful armor and stuff). At the end of the day, these are just my suggestions. You're free to take things at a pace. Just being helpful.

  • 22:24 She knew that that quickly because she's a goddess. Being _insanely_ good at whatever you're skilled in is part of the job. For the record, around 27:00, this reddish hue is due to Atreus' condition. According to the developers, Atreus is a god, and when a god dies or is about to die, it has an impact on his domain. And since their cabin is the only home he's ever known, that's the extent of his "domain", so the storm is centered on the cabin. Also, if anyone is wondering, the devs also said that wasn't the real Athena, just a hallucination in Kratos' mind. As evidenced by the fact that Kratos told her to get out of his head and the fact that Mimir didn't hear her.

    • Granted, it’s hard to tell with Athena, because she started out as an entity of pure psyche before being born of Zeus’s head and kind of returned to that state when Kratos killed her body. The devs may say it’s just a hallucination, but it’s entirely possible that they might backtrack and reintroduce her from the seed of that delusion. For her, that’s not a huge stretch.

  • Who called the serpent? Well the entire community want to know as well. Cause the game didn't answer that question nor Ragnarok did. I think that answer was lost when decided to make the Norse Saga only two games instead of trilogy
