  • I’ve seen this video, and it doesn’t quite get the finale right with Athena. She wanted to control the power of Hope, and was angry when Kratos released it to all of humanity. She shouts, “They will not know what to do with it!” then leaving Kratos to die. She was manipulating Kratos as much as any of them. Though, the games never say what happened to Aphrodite. He didn’t kill her.

  • The ashes of his wife and daughter being fastened to his skin got added to the story sort of by accident. Early in development, they hadn't settled on a character design for Kratos. One of the concept artists having a few notes from the game's director, decided to take lunch but bring some pens with him if he got an idea. As he was eating, he did in fact get an idea for Kratos' design, but he then realized he had forgotten paper. The only thing he could draw a rough sketch on was a white napkin at the table he was eating at. He showed the director the rough sketch who loved the design and the pale white skin look, so it was kept. They then had to add a reason to the story for Kratos to have that ash white skin. It also came with the added bonus that it helped Kratos stand out on camera even if the shot pulled back to show off the scale of larger enemies or backgrounds.

  • A little sad fact: Throughout God of War: Chains of Olympus, Kratos is haunted by a song that his daughter used to play on her flute. The flute was Calliope's favorite thing and was actually hand carved by Kratos himself. It shows you how much Kratos just loved her and how hard it was for him to start being soft and open with another child of his (Atreus)

This caused a lot of dust to fly into the air, the temple was also just starting to burn so smoke was also starting to fill the room. The last two people in the temple were his wife and daughter, the dust and smoke in the air caused him to not be able to see them clearly, just their silhouettes. After he killed them, the dust cleared enough for him to discover it was his wife and daughter.

And yes in Greek Myth there have been heroes who have traveled to Hades(the underworld) without dying most notably/famously Heracles and Orpheus they both went in and came out fine.

  • The video you've chosen is a good one, definitely more detailed than some others that have been watched for this reason, though it really commits strongly and strictly to the chronological order of events which I'm sure contributed to how much gets thrown at you at once in places. You did just binge the entire plot of a PS2 mainline trilogy along with _multiple_ spin-offs and honestly hats off to you for keeping up with it as well as you did! To clarify one small thing, in the situation with Persephone, Kratos staying with his daughter would have meant the end of everything - the Underworld, Elysium and her. He left his daughter in the afterlife and sacrificed his chance to be with her a little while longer so that she could _have_ an afterlife. And to share a little of my personal take, my friends and I have noted there was a bit of a direction shift with GOW3, what with Kratos somewhat uncharacteristically destroying the world and all, in doing so going from tragic and deeply flawed anti-hero to practically being the real villain of the story. It's not a big deal but I thought I'd let you know there was some discourse over Kratos as a character back then, with some fans not so much wondering if he would come back as much as hoping that he wouldn't. I myself honestly wasn't a fan of Kratos during this era and kind of loathed him. This was the crowd Santa Monica set out to win back with God of War PS4. So it says a lot that I now consider him one of my favourite gaming protagonists and I'm excited to see you discover why now that you have all of this context.

The story of Orkos was in God Of war Ascension, which was made for PS3 and is a prequel to the original saga The story with Helios was God of War Chains of Olympus, which was made for PSP and is also a prequel The story of Deimos was God of War Ghost of Sparta, which was also a PSP game God of War 1 starts right at the battle with the Hydra God of War 2 starts when Kratos invades Rhodes and both games were for PS2

  • To cover the Aphrodite/Hephaestus marriage depending on lore source; -- His parentage is Zeus and Hera, and when he was born his appearance was such that he horrified (one of/both of) his parents who proceeded to throw him (quite literally) off of Olympus. He knew his parentage from an early age and swore vengance-- made himself the greatest craftsman ever with the intent of being invited back to Olympus. He made a special throne for Hera, it was a trap that chained her to the throne. Hephaestus refused to release Hera unless he was given something in compensation, so Zeus married Aphrodite to Hephaestus so that Hera would be released.

  • This video is kind of hit or miss, but it got to the major beats. A bit of clarification here and there: The war between the Primordials that created the Greek world also created the elements and concepts that govern daily life. In Greece, these concepts must be actively controlled by gods such as the Titans or Olympians, otherwise they will spiral out of control. Minor gods won't have as much effect, but a major god's death will cause catastrophe. When Ares died, his corpse released a nuclear explosion and his control over the concept of "war" had to be given to someone new. This is why Kratos needed to take the throne. Poseidon's death, of course, flooded all of Greece. Hades' death set the souls of the Underworld free to terrorize all of the surviving mortals. When Kratos killed Helios (though the two had saved each other in the past) he blocked out the sun, causing a plague of cold and famine. Hermes, as a god of messengers, merchants, and medicine, released pestilence when he died, a cloud of locusts and sickness that spread through the mortals. Hera, struggling in her drunken stupor to keep control several divine domains of gods that had already been killed, died and caused flora to wither and die. Hephaestus' death had no apparent consequences, though it's likely that blacksmiths and engineers as well as other creatives suddenly lost their passion. You know, if they weren't already dead. Finally, Zeus' death caused all of Greece to be covered in a massive and deadly storm, the weather in disarray for the entire region. The Titans knew this would happen, and wanted the Olympians dead so they themselves could reclaim those divine domains and rule over humanity once more. Daedalus was trapped in _a_ labyrinth within Olympus. Zeus hired him to create it after Kratos killed Ares, because of how well he did on _the_ labyrinth that imprisoned the minotaur. The Fates worked for the Olympians. The were powerful beings that, on top of being gifted in magic and combat, also controlled the Loom of Fate, allowing them to control history. Tampering with time is incredibly dangerous, but if Olympus decides that something _must_ happen, the Sisters manipulate events to ensure that it will. Kratos used the Loom to go back to when Zeus killed him, but after failing to kill Zeus he went back in time to when the Titans were defeated (something they anticipated, as at least Gaia had powerful temporal awareness and reached across time and space to "help" Kratos more than once). Kratos' brother Deimos was trapped by Thanatos (Death) under Zeus' orders. It would have been safer to kill him and Kratos, and Hera herself tried to get Zeus to do so, but Zeus never really desired for any of his children to die. Along the journey to find Deimos, Kratos learns that the gods knew the entire time that he was still alive (keep in mind, prior to killing Ares Kratos had been serving the gods for roughly 20 years, and not one of them told him of his brother). Kratos felt especially betrayed by Athena, because she was the only Olympian that consistently spoke to him with clarity and a measure of respect (though she was likely manipulating him as well, for a LOT of reasons I won't go into now). Deimos believed Kratos intentionally abandoned him and they fought for a bit, before Thanatos attacked them and they made up. Unfortunately, Deimos wasn't as strong as Kratos and died during the battle, only minutes after they had been reunited. Kratos was the God of War for nearly 13 years after Deimos' death, and started a campaign of petty destruction against the cities that worshiped them, setting the army of Sparta on them and personally falling from the heavens to flatten these cities as a giant. He was basically daring the gods to come and fight him for over a decade, but Zeus enforced the rule that the Olympians should not fight each other. By the end of GoW3, Kratos is at least in his mid-50's. There's more, but this is already really long, so I'll end by saying that the games don't really go into where Kratos went after failing to kill himself in Greece, or how he managed to get to the Northlands. We learn in the comics (and books, and interviews), however, that Kratos wandered the earth for years in a crippling depression for all he lost and the destruction he caused, which amounted to no benefit in the end. He traveled through Egypt for a time, and met one of their local gods, Thoth, who along with the ghost of Athena were attempting to get him to kill beasts that were terrorizing the Egyptian mortals. As for how he got to the Northlands, Kratos continued to wander for roughly 1,000 years, eventually going "North" enough to arrive in Midgard. He doesn't remember _exactly_ how he got there, only a hazy memory that one day he was carried on a sled driven by wolves into the Wildwoods in his sleep. He lived there for 114 years, during which time he eventually met Faye, and Atreus is currently 12 years old. That's about as much background as we can give without spoiling your playthrough.

  • The glory of mythology is that every generation gets to retell the stories and add new stories and put their own twists on things… and as long as the stories keep getting told, the mythology keeps growing for future generations to inherit. And none of it is required to match or make sense. In centuries to come; Marvel’s version of Thor will be just another mythic interpretation of an ancient figure, just as the God of War franchise will be one more version of Greek and Norse and other such myths.

Meaning that Calliope would've been destroyed had the plan succeeded, so Kratos was left with two options, he either stayed in the Elysium Fields but at the cost of Calliope being destroyed or he stopped Persephone and Atlas but the cost of NEVER seeing his daughter again. Though it was a heartbreaking decision Kratos had to go with the latter decision in order to save his daughter which results in him of course defeating Persphone and chaining up Atlas to forever hold up the upper-world.

  • 14:30 in God of War lore, Atlas wasn't yet holding up the world. the pillar was doing that so Atlas didn't need to hold it up until after it was destroyed. also not only was she destroying the world. she basically was destroying all of existence as the world would fall onto the underworld destroying his daughter in the process. that's why he had to make that choice. a lot of these recaps glance over how bad Kratos was. he is in no way a good person and a lot of his misfortune was the result of his actions. they tend to focus on his vendetta against the gods which makes him seem like an anti-hero but really Kratos will kill anyone to get what he wants. need someone to hold a gate open? just find an innocent person and jam their body into the mechanism.

  • GOW Ascension came out in 2013 and is the last game in the series. The game in chronological order is a prequel of GOW 1 . That is why it wasnt GOW 4 and you joticed the big degrade on graphics. There are 7 greek GOW games(including 4 major titles, one java keypad mobile game, 2 playstation portable games). It was a 5 year struggle to reinvent the franchise in Norse and if you really like the game (GOW 4) after finishing it you can watch the documentary 'Raising Kratos'.

Because nearly every game is around 10 hours long, so adding all the games together and going over them all in a 30 min video isn't ideal. The video was in super ultra speed to and missed really cool details.

  • So the reason some of the games look different graphically is because a bunch of these are PS2 and PSP games. In addition to the trilogy there were three prequels including Ascension which came out in 2013 so technically I only had to wait 5 years for God of War 4 lol. Also the building was burning so he couldn't see his wife and child because of the smoke. Also I am really impressed with your Greek mythology knowledge. But Athena did have a mother who Zeus got pregnant and fearing Hera wrath he and her started changing into animals until she turned into a fly and he turned into a eagle and swallowed her. That's why Athena popped out of his head lol. At least one version of the story. I will leave you with a fun fact the heaviest thing Kratos has lifted is 18.5 million tons. The bridge he pushed in God of War 4 weigh 1.7 million tons.

  • Nectar is the drink of the gods, ambrosia is the food of the gods. As for how Kratos didn't know who was in the temple, his family was left back in Sparta, but Ares ensured they were in the temple to Athena as part of his plan. Kratos didn't stop to look at anyone in the temple beforehand, he went in swinging. He only really looked at them after they were dead. In the most famous story, Zeus hastily married Aphrodite to Hephaestus in order to prevent the other gods from fighting over her.

  • Greetings from Chicago ✌️❤️🍿In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth. The god Zeus gave her a box and told her not to open it. (In the original Greek, the object was a jar, but the two words are similar, and it seems that Erasmus mistranslated it as “box” and that is what stuck.) Inside the box were all the troubles of the world, including death, and, when Pandora opened it, the troubles escaped to plague the world. Zeus had given her the box hoping that she would open it, thus releasing trouble into the world. This was his way of bringing trouble upon the world since Prometheus had given fire to mankind.

  • I think another reason Kratos “blindly” was able to kill his wife and daughter was because there was no reason for him to believe they were in that temple. In his mind they were back at home. Of course he had no idea Aries secretly teleported them to the temple so in the midst of him slaughtering Athena’s followers the wife and daughter were killed too.

  • Sorry for double commenting but I felt it was needed. 1 Aries clouded Kratos mind so his wife and child looked like random people. 2 He had to kill his mother because she revealed Zues was his father, cursing her to become a monster. 3 Kratos didn't want to kill Orkos, he actually was pretty fond of him. 4 Elysium would've fallen with the rest of the world which would've destroyed even her living soul. 5 Athena went to a higher plane of existence because she selflessly gave her life. 6 Kratos hree to see Pandora as a brother. 7 quite a fee of the gods honestly themselves killed, many Kratos tried to ignore bur they wouldn't back off. 7 Kratos didn't intentionally release hope, dude just wanted to die and releasing hope was a byproduct of said attempt. This was a good summary but it missed a good bit

  • The flip-flopping in CGI-quality comes from some of the story you saw were prequels or side-stories, not part of the main game trilogy, and instead were produced for the hand-held PSP back then, which of course was a massive downgrade in graphic quality compared to the main games for the PS2 and PS3.

  • Last fact of the day lmao (Can you tell I love this game? 😂) The reason why Hephaestus sent Kratos on a suicide mission was to protect Pandora. In the game lore, Hephaestus was the one who created Pandora's box by order of Zeus to seal the evils of the world. Hephaestus also created a key, which then took a life of its own, becoming Pandora, the girl. Hephaestus however fell in love with the girl and saw her as his own child, raising Pandora as his own. When Zeus comes back and demands the key to Pandora's box, Hephaestus lied to Zeus because he didnt want to get Pandora taken away from him. But Zeus figures out that Hephaestus was lying to him and tortures and beats him up, forcing Hephaestus to tell the truth and got Pandora taken away. It also explains why Hephaestus looks so crippled and beaten up when Kratos meets him. When Kratos goes looking for the key like Zeus did, Hephaestus got scared and hoped Kratos would die on the mission to get the stone so that he wouldnt be able to reach Pandora, scared Kratos my hurt her. In Hephaestus dying moments, he actually begs Kratos not to hurt Pandora

I wouldn’t give this guys video to someone trying to learn about Kratos cause he adds stuff and leaves some stuff out. Not very reliable.
