Hello folks! Today I want to show you m new restoration project. O found this rare butcher knife at flea market and bought for USD $3. The shape of cleaver very interesting and rare because I never seen before.
Restoration process: First I used electrolysis to removed main layers of rust from butcher knife. Then washing in water with cleaning agent. After I used angle grinder to removed patina and some little rust from blade and handle too. Then I started sandpapers work and polishing. The knife handle I made from soft plastic, good staff for handle and used aluminum and brass rivets. As usually I made test for you. I hope you will enjoy this restoration video.

  • Very well done sir! That piece is now a beauty. This shape of a horse brings joy in a kitchen. The horse head helps pushing hard when rocking on a bony piece of meat.

  • Приятно видеть, как оснащение мастерской развивается, уже и гриндер появился :) пара советов: 1) вместо камня на дремеле попробуйте цилиндрические шкурки на оси (на али много и дешевые) - есть разной зернистости и, главное - решают проблему с неравномерным износом камня и "зализанностью" граней им обрабатываемых 2) когда сверлите накладки - попробуйте вставлять в уже проделанное отверстие хвостовик такого-же сверла, каким сверлили. Так накладка и хвостовик очень жестко и качественно зафиксируются для сверления второго (и далее) отверстия 3) чуть сносите на конус концы заклепок, на которые финально набиваете вторую плашку. Очень неприятно, когда край заклепки выламывает острой гранью краешек накладки у отверстия. 4) плоские накладки лучше все-таки финально шкурить не чисто пальцами, а через брусок. Плоскости ровнее получаются, особенно на стыках материалов разной твердости. Удачи!

  • Great work again and you're getting so much better on the handle work (pins) and showing the edge work. I'd only suggest maybe sourcing some micarta handle stock or something. I thought that brown plastic handle material was very boring/ugly. I'd also taper it a bit in the front near the cutting action. I like the shiny finish because I want to make sure my knife is clean after I use it.
