    • Shaq is unscientific and is fond of the "appeal to authority" fallacy. Chuck's smarter, clear at exposition, and is much more scientific in his thinking. Shaq argues from feelings, not science. I think Kobe was also more analytically-minded, like Chuck, maybe that's why he didn't get on so great with Shaq.

  • Kobe Bryant became a complete player in 07-08. The year before, they barely made the playoffs and lost 4-1 to the Suns with him just constantly taking shot after shot. Going into the 07-08 season, the only roster changes were bringing back Fisher and signing DJ Mbenga. They traded for Ariza in late November, but barely played him (and he only played 8 games in the playoffs). Before Gasol ever played for the Lakers, they were 35-20 and were the 1 seed. All because Kobe had changed his game. Adding Gasol only put them over the edge. Kobe was always the most qualified person to speak on this playstyle not being winning basketball because he lived it and corrected it before it was too late.

Playing with a healthy Andrew Bynum instead of Kwame Brown & Smush Parker mattered. Derek Fisher was getting people involved. Kobe was averaging 4 or 5 assists per game, not 10. Comparing what Luka's doing to Kobe's offense is silly.

    • @@readmycomment3707 It's not about passing more. It's about learning to play without the ball. There's a lot of ways to draw defenders away from teammates and create open looks for people other than yourself when you don't have the ball. Also, Doncic is a huge defensive liability, no one mentions this. He needs to be extra efficient on offense to make up for it. Every time he goes down into the paint to score a nifty post move it puts him out of position to do the thing that's in a point guard's name: guard the point.

  • Chuck is right. Luka doesn’t or can’t play offball. If you look at Jokic, he is constantly moving or setting screens. Cutting. Etc. Luka is playing Harden ball from Houston days. Those assists are to spot up shooters or a lob after he’s been dribbling for almost 20 seconds.

    @TheGoogergieger@TheGoogergiegerАй бұрын
    • Jokic can’t play like Luka which is why he simply sets picks and hands the ball off. Anyone who has ever watched a full Mavs game knows that only Kyrie and Luka can handle the ball. Every other player is afraid to dribble because they will turn it over. Doncic is a playmaker, whereas Jokic is a great player operating in a system with 5 or 6 other good players. All Jokic has to do is hand it off at the top of the key, to either Murray, Porter J or KCP, or a rim running Gordon. Jokic gets most of his assists by handing it to very good players. Doncic plays with a starting lineup and bench that could not play for the Nuggets (except Irving). What Chuck misses and does not make sense is Luka needs to play off the ball. What does that even mean? Luka does play off the ball, and is then passed the ball because no one else can create or score. He is averaging more assists than normal because Washington is a better finisher than they have had this year, but the other players are still shooting horribly. If Luka was on Denver, he would be averaging another 6 or 7 assists per game.

But Chuck is right, we know Luka is capable of dropping 30-35 PTS a game but there are other prolific scorers that can do the same thing like Kobe, Curry, Bron, and the list goes on but there is no reason why the Mavs in most NBA talk isn't considered a top contender and it starts with the heliocentric offense. Even though I hate the comparison but this is gives prime James Harden/Russell Westbrook vibes. But Shaq is right that to be one of the greatest you should be able to put up those numbers, when it's neccesary. • Yall want Luka to get rid of the ball but he is the point guard. The point guard brings the ball down the floor. Also he has had 10+ assists in these last 5 games. I agree that Luka needs to develop his off the ball game, but this Mavs offense is not the issue for this team its the defense. Chuck says that Luka doesn't make players around him better but look at Dante Exum, he was out of the league last year and now he is a proficient 3rd ball handler on this team. Another player in Reggie Bullock, who averaged 8 in the regular season, and 10+ in the 2022 playoffs, and now as a Rocket is a benchwarmer. Also, everyone is saying let kyrie bring the ball up the floor, Kyrie LOVES moving off the ball. When the guard rotation does not involve Luka (Exum and Irving) Kyrie plays as the shooting guard off the ball in 85% of the possessions. Again, I get what Chuck is getting at here, but saying Luka doesn't get his teammates involved is garbage.

  • Come on guys, give Luka some credit. He just had 5 consecutive 30+ pts triple double games. He's the 2nd player in NBA history to do so. Also he's the first player in NBA history to have 4 consecutive 35+ pts triple double games.

  • Although I agree with Chuck. Shaq makes a good point. He can still average his 37 and get others involved. It’s about picking your spots and your timing. Joker get’s his, but is also a facilitator. Takes what the defense gives him. This is why his team wins games, and reigning NBA champ

  • I love Chuck and Kenny because Chuck didn't have any significant accomplishments as shaq and Kenny is just a role player back then. They were not flexing achievements so they were so natural in their opinions. Shaq is so driven by his accomplishments to the point where he doesn't know what his saying and tunneled his vision in his opinions.

  • Chuck is right, luka needs to get rid of the ball a little more but I also think that the bench haven't been consistent the whole season. THJ can make 30+ one night but the next ten games he'll make 8 ppg, also they need to have more energy on the defense.

  • The Dallas Mavericks are solid in terms of offensive efficiency, sitting at 5th in the league. Luka Doncic stands out as well, being in the top 3 for individual offensive efficiency. However, the real challenge isn't their ability to score or run the offense; it's on the defensive side. To put it simply, Luka isn't the issue here. The main concern is the team's defensive schemes.

  • As a die hard Mavs fan I always agree with Chuck and this is definitely no different. Luka still needs to delegate quicker. The problem is playing Maxi/Dwight at the 5 in key situations and playing Hardaway when his shots are not falling.

  • with a great team, his ppg and rebounds should go down but is assists, efficiency and maybe even defense stats should go up.

  • Kobe Bryant said this same thing along time ago about Harden. Kobe knows because it was hard after Shaq left and he had to score a lot but was burnt out before getting Pau Gasol to take some load off of defenders. I think T-Mac said it too.

  • I agree, if he's really wanted to win, he would make PJ and Gafford look like borderline all stars. He's been pampered too much with Mavs.

  • Luka needs to get guys going early and then take over. Plus play defense like he did the 2nd half tonight.

  • Shaq only won the scoring title + a ring once, in his 2000 season. For his other 3 rings he wasn’t actually the scoring champion. In fact, the only other time he won the scoring title was the ‘95 season, when Hakeem swept him out of the Finals. So yeah, even Shaq had to sacrifice scoring efficiency to win. Not to mention he only has 2 scoring titles to Jordan’s 10-so even in that category he underachieved
