    @catherinetodd@catherinetodd5 жыл бұрын
    • Catherine Todd no problem glad it helped you out! You dont have to use Wonder paint, it's just that my father and I perfer it because its paint and primer in one and has a longer dip window. This was useful because sometimes we prepped things to dip, painted them and didnt get to actually dipping them for several months. Although, if you're going to dip immediately after your paint dries nothing is stopping you from using your store bought paint and primer! Thanks for watching, and best of luck dipping:)

  • Hi Jimmy, what is the actual item that wraps around your gas cap? You talked about an activator and a sealer. Sealing is common sense, however do you need an activator to start the process of bonding! Can you buy the sprays from a hardware store or are they speciality items? Never seen this before, obviously, but I found it fascinating, and you did a great job! Well done! Cheers Sean

    @sjscreations2608@sjscreations26086 жыл бұрын
    • The Bungling Woodworker hey there, the base coat on our gas cap was the OHW (one hit wonder) which allows for a longer dipping window (time between painting base coat and dipping item in film). The activator is sprayed on the film 60 seconds before you dip to allow the film to adhear to the item you are dipping. Then you have you're sealer which is pretty much a clear coat after the item is dipped, rinsed and dried. Others have tried paint from the hardware store with mixed resuls, but for doing it properly, getting the kind I have here or one like it (with a large dip window) will give you the best results. Hope this helps! If you have any further questions feel free to ask. Glad to help. Thanks for watching, be sure to hit that like button and sub. More content will be put up soon:) stay tuned.

    • Thanks Jimmy very much appreciated. I asked a guy near where I live if its possible to turn a photo into film and he gave me the run around. Do you work with hydro dipping, because it looks like it in your vid's??? Cheers Sean

      @sjscreations2608@sjscreations26086 жыл бұрын
    • The Bungling Woodworker hey, and no we don't work in it, we saw it around once and me and my dad went half and half on supplies, did some studying and took a shot at it. So we are self taught! Deffinately a fun hobby to get into. Working on more videos, I wanted to do a more in depth how to, but takes alot of time and it's harder between my classes and work and my father's schedule. But keep your eyes out :) thanks for the questions and support. As I said if there's anything else I can help you with just let me know. Glad to help.

      @Jimmy2Tech@Jimmy2Tech6 жыл бұрын
    • The activator is a specialty item, not available locally. The film is a Poly Vinyl Acetate or Poly Vinyl Alcohol. which both dissolve in water ideal is 93F cooler give you a bit more time and hotter is just bad for the film. Next the activator melts the ink, now at a point before dipping the ink becomes very slimy and stringy or sticky of you must. At the point when you dip the piece through the floating ink, it adheres to the pain on the piece being dipped. Once dipped the swirling of the part under water also helps push the ink onto the item. the activator is still melting the ink into the paint. Allowing it to sit in the air a bit allows the activator to evaporate. Then rinse the slime which is PVA off. A close up of the piece would have shown if the activator was applied properly. if you have spots of the base paint showing then you did not get even coverage. and you either touch it up or start over.

  • It would be nice to know what type of paint that can be used a slower drying paint could have adhesion prolbs for the hydro if not fully cured if you cap it off with hydro dip could trap solvents causing it to delaminate is it laquer / enamel ect.? also what is the actual substrate of the activator? And what clear coat can be compatible.over the final product .I am an auto painter by trade just curious can prolb save a buck by knowing what these aerosols actually are MSDS.

    • MO FO hey there. Yeah unfortunately we are new to to dipping game so we don't have all the knowledge yet about making our own activator and so forth. But if anyone is curious there are youtube videos out there on it. I'm in the process of learning it and making a more in depth activator video. So if you're curious keep your eyes open:) thanks for watching!

      @Jimmy2Tech@Jimmy2Tech6 жыл бұрын
    • See that is the problem with these videos. 95% of the people doing these have attempted a few things and been lucky so you say its easy. Plus you have left out the the safety hazard of inhaling the activator. Since you are learning you should not be doing videos.

    • ONE MORE FISH you dont even need paint just the activate which you spray over the fill after you put it in the tub

      @bryanroupe8646@bryanroupe86466 жыл бұрын
    • The activator is primarily Xylene(roughly 50%). The one I've used also include Methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and 1 or 2 others that make up the rest that I can't recall off the top of my head. Google 'hydrographic primer' and you'll get a list of all kinds of stuff related to it.

    • I dont know to much on creating your own patterns. I do know there are some companies that can make your patterns if you send them to them. I've also seen film printers but we havent had the chance to get one yet or learn more about them. So unfortunately we are not to much help in that department.

  • So I've always heard that hydro dip, especially on plastics, resulted in an extremely durable finish. So why spray on the clear coat? Is that necessary?

    @JU57US@JU57US5 жыл бұрын
    • It's honestly whatever you feel you need to do for the application. We prefer clear coat because it of course gives it a nice gloss, but also is an extra small layer that protects the dip from the elements (weather, small scratches). If you dont want to you're not required to:)
