Hi awsome vid, do you know of these guys ship to The UK ?
@@windee2816 back in the day they didn't. Although they may now. Usually its hard for companies to ship paint and things overseas because of hazmat fees and shipping.
I m gonna use my next door neighbors pool and a Crane and do my whole car !
Dont think that that idea hasn't crossed our minds;)
Noooo 🤣 I’m DEAD 😵
Lol LOVE IT!
be sure to tape the windows

Hahahahahaha
That's made my day 😂😂😂😂
Renz Evan Ansus nice
I always have captions on
lmao
Best assistant ever that was the perfect amount of tape, no wasted material 👌
so you had lots of wrinkles and the material probably didn't set right in the water as you're not supposed to tape the material as some have to expand and resize
I've watched a ton of videos recently about hydro-dipping. This was one of the most professional and helpful. Much appreciated!!
Trophy seek thank you. Glad you found it useful!
THANK YOU! This is a fantastic tutorial, gentlemen. You taught me all the things I needed to know, kept it simple, and made me feel right at home. Can't wait to start hydrodipping everything!
Great job guys! We've got tons of hydro dipping videos coming out soon, posting every other day :)
I'm a 41-year-old mom my youngest son is 18 my oldest one is 22 he hydro dipped a pair of basketball shoes I watch u young kids do this & I'm mind blown. It makes me want to hydro dip any and everything especially purses!!! Thank you for the tutorial for this ole bird 😂 sending hugs from Tennessee
Thanks so much for your comment! Good luck of you do give it a try. :)
@@Jimmy2Tech I am going to!!!!
That was totally awesome, just learned what a hydro dip is!
First Video I watched on Hydro Dippin it was very educational! Thank you.
Glad it helped you. We got one more video that you may like as well that we made after this one:)
I would have to recommend using a tack cloth for the drying process as paper towels can leave behind particles...
Scroll Out yes very good point there! In the most recent video I made I explained that as well, because I am learning more as I dip. You should check it out too! Thanks for watching and the insight!
Thank you!! Your video on hydro dipping is #1!!! Great step by step explaining everything to do for beginners. Gives me a great idea for my gas cap to my 68 Custom GMC. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for making this video! I found out doing the prep work is extremely important or the film won't stick to your project. Don't cut corners when doing this or you will definitely fail.
Great! Exactly spot on. I can not stress enough that prep and dry time is extremely important in dipping.
That tearing of tape length was spot on, nicely done

Well done, learned a lot. Thanks much, dave
Thank You for your efforts you did what others, people couldn't
That was a great tutorial. You're right about some of them being a bit sparse. Nice attention to detail. But, the primer\first coat part of it could benefit from a bit more expansion.
Great video. Just what I needed to know as a beginner

Thank you so much and good luck on your guitar.
This came out sick. Thanks for the detailed info and process. (not to mention tips on how not to mess it up) Big thanks!
Hey thank you kindly for your comments. If you're still a little unsure we have another video on the channel that was an updated How to on dipping. You may find that useful! Thanks for watching.
Sick? What does that mean?
Great intro video. Thanks. Answered some questions. Using a paper towel to skim the water works great to get ready for the next dip. And to help you, its a "scuff" pad. You scuff up an item to prepare for painting. :) "Scruff" is a dog's name.
Hey you never know, maybe I gave the pad a name 😄 thanks I am glad the video helped you out:)
Thank you! This helped me hydro dip my custom BCD.

Of course, I'm going to have some more dip videos up as soon as I get back into the groove of classes. So stay posted, some boat parts sounds like an amazing idea!
"It's hard to do with one hand" Literally using 2 hands. Lol.
Do you buy the film itself off Amazon?
Thanks for a beginner video, it was extremely helpful, do have to mention though, the DIY mask you showed is completely useless for fumes, it's only good for particulates (as it says on the mask). Still a great video though, thanks
Still better than nothing

Great video I always wondered how to hydro dip but never looked it up. Maybe ill mess around in the garage with this tutorial and get better and do bigger projects. Thanks!

Thanks for your help. I have wanted to try this for awhile so I'm glad for your video to get me in the right track!
Happy to help! If you have any questions feel free to ask. We will help the best we can.
tip use the prep sol with the scotchie u dont need to wash with soap
Thank you so much - I've been trying to find out to do this, and what kind of paint to use. Do we have to use the brand "Wonder Paint" you mention? Or are there others if we can't order Wonder... (I'm in Guatemala). I can't thank you enough for making this video. Gracias amigo!
Catherine Todd no problem glad it helped you out! You dont have to use Wonder paint, it's just that my father and I perfer it because its paint and primer in one and has a longer dip window. This was useful because sometimes we prepped things to dip, painted them and didnt get to actually dipping them for several months. Although, if you're going to dip immediately after your paint dries nothing is stopping you from using your store bought paint and primer! Thanks for watching, and best of luck dipping:)
Best how to on this subject i have seen , subscribed
Scott Thompson thanks so much! If you liked this you should check out the new one we just put up. Even more detailed :) thanks for the sub and watching
Very beautifully presented. Thanks for sharing.
Anyone come here after watching Jenna marbles bc u tryna hydro dip some crocs now

Aaahaha yes
Yeah

I noticed you sprayed the activator inside the house, im assuming this would be ok with proper ventilation. I wouldnt want the smell of chemicals to linger
Thank you for sharing. You guys are awesome!
awesome thanks for taking the time to make this I've just bought some film thinking it was vinyl wrap but after seeing the video I'm really excited can't wait to try it for myself
Good luck! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
Safety tip: the N95 respirator will not block the organic vapors of the paint.
I'm subbing u deserve more subs my dude
Why Cry gaming thank you so much, I'll have more content up soon. More dipping and some other stuff. Stay tuned:)
Very cool. Father & son working together. 👍👍
I feel really confident about this. Doing it myself. Thanks
in the video never mentioned about the - "film", from where you bought it
N Hraval hey there we didn't mention it in the video but you can find the link to the film in the description and if you're interested we have another how to hydro dip video 2.0 that is a better explanation of how to dip with a link of everything used:) hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
My question is what were the specs of this film? I bought some on Amazon, it didn’t specifically indicate it’s for hydrodipping though🤔
Dont really have specs. We have links in the video description if you want to take a look there. If you search for, "hydrographic film" you should find what you need to get the job done.:)

That looks amazing good team work assume he your DAD your helper to both you guys cheers and thanks for the tutorial .
Love the lint free paper towel...
Hi Jimmy, what is the actual item that wraps around your gas cap? You talked about an activator and a sealer. Sealing is common sense, however do you need an activator to start the process of bonding! Can you buy the sprays from a hardware store or are they speciality items? Never seen this before, obviously, but I found it fascinating, and you did a great job! Well done! Cheers Sean
The Bungling Woodworker hey there, the base coat on our gas cap was the OHW (one hit wonder) which allows for a longer dipping window (time between painting base coat and dipping item in film). The activator is sprayed on the film 60 seconds before you dip to allow the film to adhear to the item you are dipping. Then you have you're sealer which is pretty much a clear coat after the item is dipped, rinsed and dried. Others have tried paint from the hardware store with mixed resuls, but for doing it properly, getting the kind I have here or one like it (with a large dip window) will give you the best results. Hope this helps! If you have any further questions feel free to ask. Glad to help. Thanks for watching, be sure to hit that like button and sub. More content will be put up soon:) stay tuned.
Thanks Jimmy very much appreciated. I asked a guy near where I live if its possible to turn a photo into film and he gave me the run around. Do you work with hydro dipping, because it looks like it in your vid's??? Cheers Sean
The Bungling Woodworker hey, and no we don't work in it, we saw it around once and me and my dad went half and half on supplies, did some studying and took a shot at it. So we are self taught! Deffinately a fun hobby to get into. Working on more videos, I wanted to do a more in depth how to, but takes alot of time and it's harder between my classes and work and my father's schedule. But keep your eyes out :) thanks for the questions and support. As I said if there's anything else I can help you with just let me know. Glad to help.
The activator is a specialty item, not available locally. The film is a Poly Vinyl Acetate or Poly Vinyl Alcohol. which both dissolve in water ideal is 93F cooler give you a bit more time and hotter is just bad for the film. Next the activator melts the ink, now at a point before dipping the ink becomes very slimy and stringy or sticky of you must. At the point when you dip the piece through the floating ink, it adheres to the pain on the piece being dipped. Once dipped the swirling of the part under water also helps push the ink onto the item. the activator is still melting the ink into the paint. Allowing it to sit in the air a bit allows the activator to evaporate. Then rinse the slime which is PVA off. A close up of the piece would have shown if the activator was applied properly. if you have spots of the base paint showing then you did not get even coverage. and you either touch it up or start over.
Thank you overwatch for your detailed instructions. Very helpful!
What if the part you want to dip is already painted, do you still need to paint it or can you skip that step
That's up to you. Fresh paint will always dip better. If you decide to use the current paint just remember to clean off any access oils and grease with a cleaner.
Might be a 5yr old video, but first to pop up when looking for a "how to". Well done and very detailed! Just wanted to see what this was. May use it in some future projects. Thanks! 🤘
Thank you very much for your comment. Good luck in future projects.
Video was very helpful. I'm going to start doing this myself now.

Where can I get Hydro dip material and different designs?
Links to everything you're going to need right in the description:)
Do you buy your sheets from any particular supplier? Nice vid you make a good team
paul goodier thanks. It's that father and son duo. If your referring to the film as sheets, not specifically. I just try to avoid getting the film from China for example because shipping takes forever and the quality of the film seems to be lacking. It to mention I've had film destroyed in the shipping process. Amazon is always a decent place and so is eBay as long as your not getting it from China. If there's anything else I can help you with just let me know. Thanks for watching.:)
this is what ive been looking for. cheers for making it look so easy
raimund harper hey glad I could help yah:) sub and stay posted I have another to upload soon once I'm done editing. It's like a how too 2.0 so it's more indepth:)
Thanks for your superb demonstration. Now I have to go about tracking down the materials in Ireland, would look superb on some golf clubs.
Woah that would look amazing. Good luck and please let us know how it goes.
@@Jimmy2Tech Will do. Thanks again.
It would be nice to know what type of paint that can be used a slower drying paint could have adhesion prolbs for the hydro if not fully cured if you cap it off with hydro dip could trap solvents causing it to delaminate is it laquer / enamel ect.? also what is the actual substrate of the activator? And what clear coat can be compatible.over the final product .I am an auto painter by trade just curious can prolb save a buck by knowing what these aerosols actually are MSDS.
MO FO hey there. Yeah unfortunately we are new to to dipping game so we don't have all the knowledge yet about making our own activator and so forth. But if anyone is curious there are youtube videos out there on it. I'm in the process of learning it and making a more in depth activator video. So if you're curious keep your eyes open:) thanks for watching!
See that is the problem with these videos. 95% of the people doing these have attempted a few things and been lucky so you say its easy. Plus you have left out the the safety hazard of inhaling the activator. Since you are learning you should not be doing videos.
ONE MORE FISH you dont even need paint just the activate which you spray over the fill after you put it in the tub
The activator is primarily Xylene(roughly 50%). The one I've used also include Methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and 1 or 2 others that make up the rest that I can't recall off the top of my head. Google 'hydrographic primer' and you'll get a list of all kinds of stuff related to it.
Overwatch118 Shut up u saw and heard him mention the mask right? Do u think that's because things are gonna be bright?. Get the fuck out of here with that shit..
Question sir... how about i want my own design printed..what kind of paper/film do i need to buy? And what kind of ink do i have to use (pigment, sublimation, toner etc) Thanks
I dont know to much on creating your own patterns. I do know there are some companies that can make your patterns if you send them to them. I've also seen film printers but we havent had the chance to get one yet or learn more about them. So unfortunately we are not to much help in that department.
Very well thought out video, thanks for your time creating it.
Deborah Loke glad to be of help, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Cool, got scuffed up motorcycle parts , perfect and cheap, will try and share ...Thanks...
No problem. This would be great for that application! Thanks for watching and happy dipping:)
Can't find the wonder paint on Amazon, were can I get it?
Jessie Galvin wonder paints site. I'm pretty sure I have a link right in the description for you:)
I figured it out.
So I've always heard that hydro dip, especially on plastics, resulted in an extremely durable finish. So why spray on the clear coat? Is that necessary?
It's honestly whatever you feel you need to do for the application. We prefer clear coat because it of course gives it a nice gloss, but also is an extra small layer that protects the dip from the elements (weather, small scratches). If you dont want to you're not required to:)
Nice job. Thank you, my motorcycle restoration will benefit
Very well explained. Thanks for posting.
I don't even know how I got to this video, but I have always wondered how this works! Now I know!LOL! Great video by the way!
iluvu2inf hey thank you so much, appreciate it. Glad you liked it.
So could I also do it like this? 1. Tape object 2.sSet primer to object 3. Spray paint water. 4. Dip object 5. Let object dry Is that good or what I’m really getting into hydro dripping! Ty for the amazing tutorial!😁
Glad we could help you:) to hydrodip with hydrographic film use the process in the video. We haven't experienced much with other methods.
What about the tape or film all about, what material is it for it to work
@@armandovillarreal7819 its hydrographic film. It activates with hydrovator which allows it to adhere to the item you are dipping.
@@Jimmy2Tech thank you for replying :D
Hell yeah im going to do this to a Warhammer 40k army. My Tzeench Daemons will look insane!
Thank you very much for this video. I really wish i watched this before doing a test piece, lets just say it didn't turn out anywhere close to where I wanted it.
can you make the film or do you have to buy it
In this application you would have to buy it, but there are printers that can actually print the pattern but you'd have to look into that better as we haven't done it personally.
Jenna should have wanted this lol
Thank you so much! I was wondering about this! You explained perfectly!
back then I looked for a tutorial for it, was not able to find any. Thank you.
Happy to help. Good luck dipping.
How long should you wait between dipping and rinsing with hot water?
thedavinator 37 hey, after the dip. wait about 30 seconds and then immediately rinse under hot water for around 3 minutes, or until the item you're dipping doesn't seem glossy.
Jimmy2Tech thanks for replying
I have a question: If I hydro dip my shoes, will it lose its color if exposed to heat?
We have a video up and you can give that a look. We hydro dipped some shoes. Usually heat doesnt affect the dip especially if you have some type of clear coat/etc.
Thank you for answering, I'd definitely watch the video you've told me.
cool project, makes for a really cool gas cap

Hi again dude. Just wondering. Can you use a tack rag as a final wipe cloth before it’s Chen prepped. ?? Just for the dust etc. Or is there a chemical in tack rags that may prevent the film to fully bond. ?? Thanks in advance. 👍
@@s5living.262 unfortunately I'm not sure. If there is an type of oil or grease in anything you use you may have troubles.

Very good video… I’d like to give this a shot myself now.
Is it 90 degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit
90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 degrees Celsius:)
That paper mask is pointless. Its for particulates. It does absolutely nothing not for gasses and vapors.
Doesn’t do anything for particles really either it’s mainly just decorative
It doesn't help with particulates much either ..maybe lager stuff like grass clippings ..dust or powder not so much
I did this with my avon s10
Soak it with water
Try using one for covid lmfao
I really love your attention to the fine details.
