This is the follow-up appearance to when Glover tried to kick Dave and was allegedly on LSD. A couple awkward moments here before he settles down somewhat.

Crispin Glover is just toying with Letterman, and Letterman--who seems to have been born with an "I"m always the smartest guy in the room" smugness--doesn't even seem to realize it. Letterman cannot accept it when someone he assumes is a lightweight turns out to be, intellectually and creatively, leagues ahead of him.
@DrRestezi3 жыл бұрын
@DrRestezi I know Crispin personally and he's not really intellectually ahead of too many people. Him and Letterman kinda went over this but it was freestyled not scripted. Letterman actually likes Crispin and had him on the show several times after the first incident.

I think I finally get it. Glover is just a socially awkward eccentric guy - period. Not the sort meant to become a great actor, but he did by stroke of luck anyways, because Hollywood does need an awkward actor occasionally that's truly believable in that role as such. Then he goes on these shows, kicks it up a notch and get's awkward as fuck, and people think he's some kind of Kaufmun-esque genius or "lol, sooo stoned man, lol. wut is he on?". When in reality he's just an eccentric type, who is cast as eccentric types, which he plays effortlessly, because he's eccentric. Not an actor of any range or talents per se, but the opposite - a career built on doing one thing very well - just being himself.
@MattFoleysGhost10 жыл бұрын
Or? I seem to feel like having watched Crispin's appearances on the Late Show that he kind of owned Dave and the general audience. (HIs Nerdist podcast interview brought me on this adventure) From what might be a comedic perspective I find Crispin's laugh to be very interesting, when you compare it to Dave's usual packaged laugh. Dave laughs so little during all of Crispin's appearances, but Crispin laughs, and that seems to invite the audience to draw closer in some way. It seems odd that Crispin is giving the audience permission to laugh more than Dave. Is Crispin odd? Perhaps... Is he socially awkward? Perhaps, but I think he brings a very interesting, and mean, game to the airwaves. Think about this. Crispin seems to have felt he has nothing to regret about this sort of thing existing. So, it's fair to say, in a way, he feels to have 'won' or whatever. I'd be proud knowing that I was able to do what he did on TV. Granted, I not of a mind that he was on "like mad drugz yo". I think he was 'doing a bit', even if that was just being super himself. Audiences seem to have 'won' because this shit is here even now. The only real loser seems to have been Dave. Which makes me wonder how much he was really in on this. Because to be honest, I think he had to have been. Sorry to make you be the bearer of this tirade, but if I was going to post I figured why not give it to this Danny McCaffery fellow.
@bishopofapples10 жыл бұрын

Danny- I completely disagree that Crispin has no talent. When he acts, he immerses himself in the character and becomes them. He's able to realistically and intensely portray emotions and experiences that he's never had in real life. That's true acting. He's amazing.
@LittleLulubee10 жыл бұрын
Danny McCaffrey He is eccentric, but he is also extremely talented as an actor. You're reaching here. He is indeed Kaufman-esque on purpose, so he just heightens his eccentricities. Yes, when you get nervous that tends to happen anyway, so his interviews get an extra strong dose of it on top of whatever was planned. There is a very clear difference between when he is full on in character as an actor and when he is just being himself. There is also the guy he plays in public. These all kind of blend together, but you are robbing him of the credit he is due. The guy he plays in Rubin and Ed, for example is much more awkward to be around than he normally is. Crispin's nervousness and natural eccentricities were blended with that character on Letterman's first interview. Not all eccentric or awkward characters are the same at all. I think that is way oversimplifying things. He is far less eccentric as George McFly. He is also eccentric in Willard, but not at all in the same way. He is eccentric in most roles, but it isn't just him being himself. His eccentricities are vastly different in each role. Watch The Beaver Trilogy Part 3 sometime and see another side as well. All actors play to their strengths in the majority of their roles, but it still takes a ton of talent to pull it off. You do not understand him as well as you think you do. I'm not his best friend, so I am sure I don't either, but I do not make the mistake of underestimating him or worshiping him. He is just talented. He is not the most talented. He is just talented. Quit minimizing that.

i almost gasped when he opened up the volcanic garden piece.. i thought of the "bog" set in the "what is it" film. . . fascinating! inspired!
He does have that "trippin laugh" goin on just like Harmony Korine did
Another brilliant appearance by Crispin
this is amazing.
this is all an act...crispin did this for laughs.
He didn't kick you Dave.
letterman knows what crispen is doing - he just doesn't like it
These "mystery" interviews remind me of what Andy Kaufman used to do. Genius. Great way for promoting something, it draws a lot of attention.
Crispin, always ahead of his time, predicting what the Internet would be like 30 years in the future.
He's like Charlie Kelly from Always Sunny with those weird hobbies and the rat killing thing.
Rat Catching By Willard
@@CieJe.Alexander Studies in Rat Catching,
Great stuff I love this dude's attitude
Crispen Glover is a MASTER troller. He keeps trolling Dave
I love how Dave keeps trying to get the upper hand by attempting to belittle the guy. Almost like a pissing match where your opponent refuses to participate.
Hes a damm genius. Andy Warhol would have flipprf to see hid performance in the doors. Very uncanny
Just plain brilliant.
my god the beginning was so hard to watch
this is why i love Letterman, cool and cruel at the same time
7:28 DAMMIT LETTERMAN, WHAT HAPPENED WITH COUSIN BROOKE?! 😤
did anyone else noticed the pure art of comedy displays here the comedy factors as simple as see how many times can you moo before someone notices but at the same time with the complexity of stand up comedy....he really did not ever really said anything hahaha pure genius!!!
'a couple awkward moments' is a significant understatement.
what...the...fuck. This guy cant even speak. He just laughs nervously
I have Friends like Glover! They are the most fun people to be around!
that's the beauty of it
Wow the video quality is top notch 8K👌
all we had was vhs back them.
That's the best explanation I've heard of what this is on here... :)
Absolute genius!
in his first experience he was acting as his character in the upcoming film Rubin and ed
he is STILL trying to make that movie in 2018..
What a great actor
Dave is always in on the bit. Good work guys.
Naaah. Actually he doesnt
MAN i love crispin glover.
Hey! Have we all seen Rubin & Ed ? Fantastic.
i Love when he was all giggley in interviews
Crispen was in character, its that simple. Promoting his new movie. When it didn’t quite work the way he wanted, he decided it was better to leave people guessing, then revealing the truth that he was only acting. And it certainly worked, cuz here we are years later, still talking about it.
I'm surprised there was absolutely no mention of Back To The Future given that movie came out in 1985 and this show was apparently aired in 1987.
Letterman, the only guy who has been on TV as long as he has, without having gained an ounce of Quick Wit.
that is so true. David letterman is not very light on his feet when it comes to sparring with guests, who may or may not be putting on an act to troll him.
@DrRestezi I know Crispin personally and he's not really intellectually ahead of too many people. Him and Letterman kinda went over this but it was freestyled not scripted. Letterman actually likes Crispin and had him on the show several times after the first incident.
Why does no one ever talk about this appearance? Most articles talk about his 1990 appearance being the follow up to the first one.
omg so priceless when they cut to Paul just drinking his coffee with the "WTF" look on his face ahahhahaha
Crispin Glover -- what a genius. Love the guy.
I know the people you're talking about, but haven't seen them in those roles. Yeh it's funny when these guys troll on live TV. :) I watched Back to the Future again recently and found myself appreciating Crispin Glover's character in it more and more.... he's one of the industry's underrated talents I believe..... he takes on his characers so well. :) Also liked him in Charlie's Angels as that eccentric character..... very cool. :)
Crispin was doing it just for laughs and his other letterman shows from Crispin Glover's comic genius
He seems more like he's on LSD in this interview. All amped up and laughing like a fool.
Those were the days when The Letterman show ruled.
Crispin may very well be a comedic genius. His props were hilarious.
he's so handsome in this. :) here i am, watching it again. :) his laugh is so infectious. he'd have been my dream prom date. :) love you, crispy!
Letterman is so mad. lol.
That's awesome. Crispin Glover is fucking amazing.
He's SOCWARD!!
Danny- I completely disagree that Crispin has no talent. When he acts, he immerses himself in the character and becomes them. He's able to realistically and intensely portray emotions and experiences that he's never had in real life. That's true acting. He's amazing.
Quit minimizing that.
jakewastaken I love him. He's really talented, which many people are, but he's also so unique. That makes him endearing.
He's likes something from the Texas chainsaw massacre.
That guy was from a previous bit with the late night 'thrill cam'.
You are right. I realized that after I posted my reply. He was definitely in character. He probably should have warned Letterman about the kick ahead of time though.
He's a happy, harmless soul. He doesn't give a fuck! Crispin is great : D
He got him again !
This seems like him playing a character too.
His movie WILLARD is a masterpiece of surrealist art!!! SEE IT!
He was excellent in Back to the Future
I'm sure I saw another Letterman interview where they talked about "the last time you were here..." only the other had short hair
Yeah I didn't know there was a second interview I just thought there was a third one like you're talking about! He claimed it was an impersonator name Ruben Farr for the first one and I didn't realize there was a second one which this whole thing is Bonkers including my post
He was foreshadowing unmedicated Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder that would haunt our kids 20 years later
Heimlick Clydesdale you’re a fucking idiot
Hahha boomer
How is this from 1987 and he wasn't in "Back to the Future" yet?? That come out in 1985???????River's Edge is one of my favorite movies!!!
I started losing it completely when he brought out the volcanic music box
"Think MacFly. Think..."
He was IN CHARACTER as Rubin from a movie which was unreleased at the time and nobody understood what he was doing. Then he was just messing with Letterman for his second interview and was avoiding to tell him what he was doing.
“I’d prefer not to.” What Kristin movie was that?
only the best actors dont take Letterman show seriously :)
