@dnasbirdingadventures DnA’s birding Adventures heads to #nebraska to check out Kearney, the Sandhill Crane Capital of the World. It’s migration time and they forage in the corn fields during the day and roost along the North Platte river at night. There are a half a million for a month and a half before the head north to breed in Canada, Siberia and Alaska. It’s a spectacle to watch and listen to the trumpeting cranes. We’re always up for some other birding birdwatching too.
In video 1, we’re start at North Platte and Fort Kearny State Park for some TRAINS AND CRANES 😊
Video 2 (this video) We encounter a blizzard and some interesting parks in the area (Cottonmill Park, Oldfather Prairie Trail, Yanney Park, Rowe Sanctuary, and BOWLING During the blizzard).
Here’s the link to the Rowe Sanctuary: rowe.audubon.org/

PLEASE add comments if a correction is needed. Especially on the weird yellow lichen. Thanks!
THANKS FOR WATCHING, LIKING (if you like it), and SUBSCRIBING.

  • Thank you for sharing your travels along the Platte with us! I just made my second annual trek out that way this past weekend and saw the snowpiles melting everywhere. Spotted some cranes, red winged blackbird, my first greater grackle, a few crows and other little birds I didn't know the names of!

    • You're very welcome and thanks for tuning into our channel. Sounds like you found some great birds. 👍 We can't seem to get away from the wintry weather yet 😕. You probably saw a Common or Great-tailed Grackle. Where do you normally bird? Happy trails!!

    • @@dnasbirdingadventures I am a novice birder! This was only my second birdwatching venture, and both have been with the sandhill cranes out in Nebraska. I just installed a bird feeder on my patio and plan to start venturing out on the local bike path (Wabash Trace in southwestern Iowa) to see what I can spot with my binoculars and begin journaling what I find. I'm very excited to begin.

    • Yay, you'll love birding! The best part is being out in nature. Have fun. You probably know about the great birding apps to support learning about where the birds are (ebird) and identification and calls (Merlin). It's also nice that you have a feeder up now. We're about ready to take them down since the bears will be coming out soon. Have fun.
