***Correction: Kidder's Colt was chambered in .44-40.***
It always been curious about that cartridge is 44-40 known also as 44 mag? When I started with a firearms I started at 8 or 9 my parents gave me a Henry 22 and a rough rider a year later to carry on our farm and then around 13 when it was time to start deer hunting my dad told me to pick a deer rifle that was also in shooter caliber the idea was to get me the uberti the next Christmas so I ended up with a rossi 92 and the guy asked if I wanted it in 44 mag or 45 colt were the two he had available for some reason I went with the 45 colt but have often wondered what the differences were then as I said the next Christmas I got a 1873 uberti then for my birthday a 1873 cimarron which is just about the same as a uberti I never understood why that was my dad's advice because thinking back he used a old German krain Jorgenson chambered in 30-40 and I'm quite sure that's not a pistol cal !! 😂😂 Has a weird ammo box thing on the side but sights on it are pretty cool
The first death is losing a gunfight or dying in general, the second death is being forgotten as time passes on. Great video as always Santee
Thank You!
“Cha-cha-cha Chia!” Never heard a story about a gunslinger losing his life because of a Chia pet. Until now. Well done Santee & crew. This one was really good!
Thank You!
That was excellent Santee! Jeff Kidder was quite a character and lawman. It was awesome to see Greg make an appearance in an Arizona Ghostriders video! He's a man who knows his history and is an incredible marksman. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it. Greg has been on before...long ago. He's great people.
It is refreshing to see something other than Billy the kid & Wyatt Earp rehashed for the 10,000th time. Nice job.
You're welcome
I love the way your friend told the story of Jeff Kidder's last gunfight. Great video, Santee! -Desert Rat Rick
Glad you enjoyed it!
Greg really needs to get himself a Single Action Revolver. There's no more fun gun to shoot than a Colt SAA. Great video guys!!
I agree! I'm going to look at some today!
He would make one sing, for sure.
@@LionquestFitness If you don't want to break the bank on a Colt, Uberti makes some very nice Single Action revolvers. I have a Cattleman II that I really love.
This is better than Saturday morning cartoons. Wait, did I learn something? Are you tricking me? Not just entertaining but educational? Darn you SANTEE!!!!!
MWWWAHAHAHA!
I always wanted to be an Arizona Ghostrider! Excellent job Santee.
Thanks so much, Greg. You did great.
Great job Greg! It was quite a pleasant surprise to get a double dose of two of my favorite KZhead channels with my Saturday morning coffee! Well told tale and some fine looking gun leather! 😁
@@marcthomas2482 Marc Thomas made!
These are always the highlights of my Saturday mornings. Never heard of Kidder before. Thanks for the history!

The most glorious western Channel there is!! 🥂
Aww, thanks.
Great video of a pretty unknown guy. One thing, though. His engraved Colt was a .44-40 marked “Colt Frontier Sixshooter”. The ad for it’d auction sale is online with a full story 9f the gun, Kidder’s life as you described it, and great photos of the gun.
Yes, it appears it was a .44-40. Thanks.
Awesome story. I really like Mrs Santee's additional commentary. Pew-pew!
Thanks!
Pew pew! :)
Thanks Santee I never heard of Jeff before. Awesome story. Thanks for all your hard work Sir. 🤠
My pleasure!!
Hey, Santee, I just finished watching Justified the other night and must say it was very, very good. Tim Olyphant basically played Seth Bullock in modern day Kentucky. I don't know why this show isn't very well known. Highly recommended!
I loved that series.
@@ArizonaGhostriders I'm not sure why Olyphant isn't a megastar. He's good looking and a talented actor but he seems to work mostly on TV, albeit really, really good TV! (check out Santa Clarita Diet to see him do a comedy zombie show)
You always come up with some very interesting stuff Santee. There was a shot of a very young Jack Elam in there. Rex seems to get around a bit too! Very cool video!
Thanks. Jack did look young and wiry, eh?
Very interesting episode topic. Never heard of him before. You always seem to amaze me with the range of great and educational topics. Keep up the greY work!

Super fascinating vid! The maps and recreations made it a lot easier to follow in my head. This little bio about an AZ ranger was a neat idea and I'd love to watch them all if yall made more in the future!

I must have missed this one when it came out. Outstanding episode, Santee!

WOW, as interesting and informative, as always, Santee... I love your video clips, and authentic pics. I had never heard of him. After all the close calls he must've had in the line of duty, the circumstances that led to his eventual death, were surprising. super video 👏👏
I like to show off the lesser-knowns
Loved the generous use of movie clips.

Well done bio on a guy whom Hollywood characters are modeled after. Never heard of him, but absolutely great story 👏.
Thank You!
Great job and well done. I’m going to adding gunfighters to my old West inspired novella series today.
Thank You!
@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks and your welcome. For my story I’m also adding extraterrestrial/spiritual beings called the Twylavààti or the Tuantha Dànuin. Who are from the the Etriedes Star System. Those extraterrestrials will be good friends with the old west gunfighters known as the Dheneb frontier Rangers.
What a great video today. Thanks for kicking off my day. Be safe out there, and take it easy man. 😎
THanks.
Great Show Santee 👏 👍. Always learning something new. It is interesting to see how successful someone can view themselves, and manage to achieve it. Love the John Wayne Big Jake scene, no matter who gets killed.
More to come!
You right Santee the real DEAL ! This kind man did the Old west we love so much! Great story from beginning to end! Thanks have a great weekend.
Thank You!
Great stuff as always. Nice to see clips from "The Professionals" I just watched it this week. Isn't that Audie Murphy early on?
Yes it was!
Great story Santee. Love the history.👍
Thanks for listening
Another excellent video Santee! Although I don't have much to say about the bloke you are talking about, I do hope you have a chance to watch 1906 Ned Kelly movie, about 26 years after his death. What I was interested in was those "Dime Store Novels", my research into my family went passed the time they relocated to NSW via Victoria. What was very interesting, Australia was in grip of wild west fever, and every time a novel was released it was reader my men here, and the kids read them once they weren't any use (except of one use) in Australia. Samuel Langhorne Clemens was one megastar while travelling across Australia telling of his life stories in packed out theatres. Once again and excellent video.
Fascinating. I'll look into that 1906 movie. Glad you are watching!
Wow! Poor Kidder great information. Love this channel.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Santee! How about a video about Harry Tracy!
Yessir!
Real interesting episode Santee, maybe you could do more like that

Another good chronicle of some forgotten history with a great celebrity guest appearance ! As stated, Marty could have written this one to music,
Yes!
Hey Santee! I have a question. Do you know what kind coat where it goes to thigh? Johnny Cash used to wear a suit jacket like that and I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks! Love your content as always
Most shorter frock coats, or now known as "gunfighter coats" go to the thigh.
Thanks Santee! You’re the man!
I love your videos your so cool
Thanks much!
I remember reading about this in a gun magazine. I think Sher. Jim Wilson wrote the story.
Likely!
Howdy Santee I recently saw your videp on Smith & Wessons iconic model 3. How about one on the ingenious Merwin and Hulbert revolvers? I always liked the look of their SA First Model Frontier because gotta have that big iron, but it seems the company is much more obscure compared to the far more popular manufactures such as Colt, remington, Smith & Wesson etc.
One day I will, thanks much.
GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS SIR,THE DIRECTOR SOUND A LITTLE BOSSY.JUST JOKING,YOU WIFE SOUND LIKE SHE ENJOYING HER NEW JOB. TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS
Thanks 👍
Hey Santee! can you please do a video about buying vests / waistcoats on a budget? im looking into getting into making a western costume but i am quite low on money
Sure. I can suggest hitting up Goodwill or a thrift store. Many vests you find there can be adapted (or good right off the rack). They tend to be inexpensive!
@@ArizonaGhostriders alright, thank you! i'll keep a look out, unfortunately there arn't goodwills here in asutralia (i dont think) but i'll keep my eyes out for some cheap vests
@@Samuel_Chilcott We call them thrift stores, where people donate their old clothes and household items and then the public can buy them real cheap.
Worked on the Naco fence project years ago.....don't know if it was much different then....
I understand it's pretty dangerous nowadays.
Hey Santee, just a question regarding historical reference. I research royalty from across the world. I was wondering which royal houses visited the old west. Mostly for diplomatic or relaxation. I heard that royalty would come here to the U.S. to experience the West. While also, visiting dignitaries. I was wondering which royal houses would've visited.
I know Russia did for sure. Duke Alexei went buffalo hunting.
@@ArizonaGhostriders That would be House Romanov of Russia.
Hi santee Do you do voice over commercial work I hear a commercial in Michigan about some boat Marina and it sounds just like you
Awwwesome!
Sounds like a tough Hombre ….you ever done anything about the Butterfield Trail ? I drove over part of it here in NM and I think I am going to take my mules and ride it here in a month or so ..
Ooo, one of these days! Thanks
Hey Santee that lionquest feller talks so fast I couldn't make out what he was a saying! Please tell that hombree to slow down just a tad. Thanks for another great video
😅
HA!
Jeff Kidder was the real deal. He spent thousands of dollars worth of bullets in target practice and also practiced his draw. It was said that he could draw and shoot even when others had the drop in him. The Mexican police refused him medical attention while he was in jail. One of his best friends took off his badge and went down to Mexico. After he had taken care of business, he came back and retrieve his badge. He never spoke of his actions in Mexico. One can only assume that 'revenge is sweet'. The gunslinger (Kelo Henderson) in the TV series '26 Men' is reputedly modeled after Jeff Kidder. This fellow is also a gun coach to the western stars, just like the fellow who faces Matt Dillon in the beginning of every episode of Gunsmoke. Arvo Ojala, the other fellow,. was the Hollywood gun coach, and quick draw artist who appeared most famously in the opening sequence of television’s long-running “Gunsmoke. He also sold his own line of gun holsters. He showed his skills with a gun in only one movie. kzhead.info/sun/fbqTZK2aipx-dIk/bejne.html On the Go Show - Arvo Ojala & Valerie Ojala Keller Apparently he never got around to teaching Randolph Scott, who's gun handling was so pathetic it's seldom shown.
Fun info, thanks.
Props to Greg for using all known euphmisms for doing the deed. This guy had quite the life and yet not quite the happy ending he was hoping for.
Yeah.
It's also very probable that Chia worked both sides and was an informant for Jeff Kidder.
@@LionquestFitness Sorry, I left that part out of the video.
@@ArizonaGhostriders No, your editing was superb. It's an in-depth story that deserves hours to tell. I learned things I didn't know from your end.
@@LionquestFitness Thanks. I would really like to explore Naco, one day, Greg. People tell me it's not the safest place to go traipsing around...
That's the most colorful version of the story I've yet heard.
He deserves it.
Loved it
Thank You!
i had never heard of this guy before but now i think he was a really cool dude who deserves more recognition. also for the trivia, remember that i asked about your hat :)
OK!
Did guitar made in the Old West if you can can you make a video about guitar and how they are made
Lemme see what I can come up with
Hey Shantee, I gotta question. How common was it for gunman to use repeating pistols, like the Mauser C96, in the latter part of the Wild West (1890s and onward)?
If he could get his hands on one, you bet he'd use it. However, by the time those were commonplace out West, many of those rapscallions were already pushing up daisies.
The term is semi automatic, not repeating.
I seem to remember a story from the late 1890s or maybe 1900-1902 here in the west where a bad hombre somehow got out of custody and obtained the sherriff's new pistol, which was a semi auto, and couldnt figure out how to disengage the safety to shoot the man
That was an amazing story for an amazing ranger. Hats off
Thanks.
Nice!!! Holding back an entire town with just a handful of bullets... Terrifying!
Imagine being injured and just trying to get out and nobody will let you leave.
"It's better to die, than live as a coward."
True. But how horrible to die, a few feet from help surrounded by people who hate you.
Can you do a video about camping in the old west?
I have done one on packing bedrolls and blankets. I will probably do one on actual camping down the line
Fascinating! Can you expand a little on what you said about Jeff Kidder being one of the few rangers authorised to "work across the border." Wouldn't that have needed to be authorised from the Mexican side too? Was there some kind of accord between the two nations?
The Rangers frequently chased bad guys across the border, but it was a fragile thing between the two nations that caused some anger. Kidder was stationed in Nogales and did a lot of patroling on the border. He was receiving a stipend from Mexico for capturing smugglers and returning stolen goods. However, some say that his death was planned because he had made some enemies.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Great video! Your cameraperson is hilarious...is that Rita?
Yes it is! The Scourge-ette of Tucson.
What movie was that with Audie Murphy?
Arizona Raiders
Have you done any videos on Gun Laws in the Old West Santee? Thanks
Territorial Law video talks about it.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Great I'll give it a look. Thanks
Santee, I’m a bit more of a recent subscriber so I’m not sure if you already did an episode on it, but as a graduate of the University of Arizona, I’d love to see an episode about “education in the old west” or something.
OK! Congrats on the graduation.
Is this what you were looking for? kzhead.info/sun/fMuzo7SvmoWYjJ8/bejne.html I
I enjoyed that story 🥰
Good!
Many of the lawmen on the picture at 7:13 seem to carry box magazine Winchesters. Some of those Winchesters seem to be shotguns instead of rifles. Does anyone know the background to that?
This was the Miner Strike in 1903. The Rangers were issued 1895 Winchesters.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Another reminder that civil rights have to be fought for... but thats off topic - I reconed them as 1895 Winchesters too, but was there a shotgun variant? I thought Winchester shotguns were of the 1886 model - or maybe the picture is just a little blurry and what seems like shotgun barrels are in fact just ordinary rifle barrels. Thanks for the quick reply btw. 😀
