Old West OUTLAW Turned Lawman: Frank Canton & the Johnson County War COMPILATION

2023 ж. 27 Қыр.
148 099 Рет қаралды

Frank Canton was born Josiah Horner, the outlaw leader of the infamous Horner gang that would terrorize North Texas during the mid-1870s. After a battle with the United States military and several arrests, Horner escapes prison and reinvents himself as Frank Canton, the epitome of law and order and a relentless pursuer of evil-doers. For the next several decades, Canton worked as a detective, Sheriff, and Deputy U.S. Marshal, as well as being a key player in the Johnson County War. From Texas to Wyoming, Alaska, and even Indian Territory, Frank Canton's story has it all! Outlaws, lawmen, range wars, and even vampires! This is a COMPILATION from a previously released series. #wildwest #history #cowboy

  • Dear Wild West Extravaganza at Josh, sir you really do have one of the top 3 channels on utube. Your research is excellent and reading presentation puts this listener right there at the scene. I couldn't ask for more! I don't hardly ever make comments on any of the utube channels I follow but you hold a special place in my heart and mind so much so that I wanted to tell you that I haven't watched television for over a decade, tv programming is fake, and I am so happy utube suggested your channel almost 6-8 months ago now, only wish our household budget allowed us to be able to financially support your work, would love to do that. Perhaps our circumstances will change and the day will come that we, my husband, 62 years old, and I, 67 years old, can support you in some way because if any content creator on utube deserves it you most certainly do sir!! Until then sir albeit only verbally we give you much respect, our admiration and appreciation for your work, Josh. Thank you so much sir!! Love, your Arkansan history buffs and WWE fans!

  • Joe Horner, aka Frank Canton was one of the most devious western outlaw chameleons with the ability to adapt and profit from any of his chosen environments. Those not chosen by him for residence were lucky, because in spite of the few good things he did in his late life, he was morally a deceitful crook, assassin, thief, liar and coward as this video accurately portrays and thank goodness it dispels the rumor that he was a Texas Ranger. That he was ever a lawman is despicable almost as much as his horrible deeds in Johnson County, including the probable assassination of U.S. Deputy Marshal George Wellman who was dry gulched on his way home in a wagon full of Christmas presents for his family. In spite of his legacy, Canton ranks near the top of the list of evil doers in the Old West with the biggest tragedy being that history has been too kind to him. Enjoyed the mention of Texan Lawman/Invader Jeff Mynett whose Colt .45 I own, is verified by serial on Walcott's list so have studied the JCW extensively. Thanks for this exposure, but would be better without the profanity.

  • Very interesting video as always Josh. Definitely learned alot from this one. I had read a little bit about Frank Canton but not alot. I did know that the character Jesse Jacklin in the movie Johnson County War was based on Frank Canton. I was wondering if Converse County Sheriff Josiah Hazen would make a good topic? Don't know much about the man myself but he was supposedly the first man killed by The Hole in The Wall gang, Kid Curry being the one who supposedly killed him, though I have read account that claimed him and George Curry (Flatnose George) were both shooting. I always wondered if he even liked the nickname Flatnose

  • say josh, we've talked before about these outlaws becoming lawmen, but have you noticed that the ones that do become cops, even though they were criminals before, they tend to not give other criminals any slack? they may still be crooked, but they try to enforce every law they can in any way they think necessary. sometimes that gets them in trouble. but you'd think, once a crook always a crook and they'd just let them all go, once they give a bribe.

  • O yeah the 44cal Winchester is a better rifle then the henry. Winchester bought henry. The Winchester rifle was known as the model of 1866. Also known a the" yellow boy". Its basically a Henry with upgrades. The henry had to be loaded from the muzzle. You would twist the barrel and then you could load the magazine tube. the henry had no front Forearm making it hard to hold when it gets hot. what Winchester did was put a loading gate on the side of the frame. makes the rifle so much easier to load and and top off. They put a front forearm on the rifle. The henry and the 1866 used the same ammo a rimfire 44. The 1866 i believe is one of the best looking rifles ever made. It was basically the father of the 1873 Winchester.

  • Question , How would feel if you was each week constantly a victim of crime. You provided perfect I .D. with obvious proof. You sit for hours in court room for each time a thief is caught. Each time the thief walks free and thefts of your stuff continues. Maybe you already have taken law into your own hands? Have you ever gave a person a beating for doing you harm , same thing just smaller but Needed Done.
