The collapse of the bridge had nothing to do with the maintenance of the bridge. The focus of the investigation should be determining what caused the ship to lose control.
True.
Some history: about 212 years ago, the British Royal Navy bombarded Baltimore with their ships in a war with the USA. That Bombardment led Francis Scott Key to write the US national anthem and this bridge is named after him.

The shot at 7:08 tells the entire story. Regardless of what was going on with the ship and control of it, that thing just demolished the section it ran into and caused the entire bridge to collapse. Crazy and sad.
Aging infrastructure aside, the bridge did not collapse. The ship hit the bridge. The lady engineer gave little insight into what was at fault.
it's IMPOSSIBLE to stop ship of that size. and i'm pretty sure that back when that bridge was build, they don't anticipated that ship goin to be this large.
Yep, and even these days if they DO anticipate a ship this size they have to build an artificial island to support the pillars to make sure the ship runs into the ground before the bridge, or if that's not possible they just build a submerged tunnel instead. You can't build a bridge to take this kind of impact.
Well it looks like the bridge did stop the ship
3:50 "....the federal government will pay for the entire cost...." F.U. MR PRESIDENT!!! I am a taxpayer just like everybody else. Somebody screwed up here somewhere. Let the company go broke paying for it. Let the insurance company have a bad quarter. And if anybody died then maybe whoever screwed up should spend some time in jail. And YOU need to think about your age and the importance of the job you are suppose to be doing.
There are law against that... Usually big corp donate a lot to the republican and they will protect them from things like this
The company and insurance company will eventually pay but it'll take many years before one will see a dime. You want the broken bridge to sit there and no re-building to start? Think about your age and realize how shallow you are.
They'll likely get a settlement from the shippers insurance, but that could take years, in the mean time unblocking the funding so it gets rebuilt is going to save more tax dollars than it will cost. The government makes huge amounts in taxes from economic activity, government spending isn't like your spending, some things like bridges can make back more than they cost very quickly. Sad a man that old is sharper than the average commentator.
@@pingukutepro There are law against that... Usually big corp donate a lot to the democrats and they will protect them from things like this
Typical News BS. They do not want to talk about the ship or captain or condition of the ship/barge.
The ship was under guidance of local Baltimore pilots. Will be a long investigation into why the power failed, and if there was any warning leading up to it, will take years. Fortunately the radioed mayday seems to have saved everyone except the workers doing maintenance by letting them close the bridge.
Woww. Now that's very low. Fitting in the abortion issue straight after.
The my do the headlines then get into the stories 😳☠️
The shipping yards that got closed off from the wreck are going to affect us later. Google says they do a lot of automobiles light trucks. (Number one port for that in America)
They'll have the port open within weeks. The bridge may take years, and might be rebuilt as a tunnel instead.
Actually about 45-50% of republican lawmakers believe it ought to be legal. A federal right could be implemented if it were agreed to a 16 week limit. However it’s politically useful to non-moderates on both sides to keep it polarizing event.
So the same reporter doing both first two stories? She doing ehr rounds eh
How can they call off the search for survivors so soon??
It's the nature of the environment and the area. The cold water and high fall means the odds at this hour of a survivor that has yet to be found are essentially zero. Tragic.
If you're in water that cold you've got 5-10 minutes. They searched for hours. Anyone not found is dead unfortunately. They're still searching, but they're more looking for bodies at this point, and are being more careful to not risk those searching as now they're more likely to be at risk than it's worth.
The water there is freezing and dangerous. Those folks are likely washed far downshore now. I do hope they're found but it's unlikely. Putting rescuers at risk won't bring them back.
Water is 35-38 degrees. Can't survive 24 hrs in that temp.
@@wisdomhumilitythe think 6 haven’t been accounted for, 2 rescued very soon after the impact, one who was well enough to refuse any treatment and one sent to hospital.
Why did the bridge being elapsed? Many possible causes aren't they? Who is the destroyer which has the intension to do that? Please let people known that. must
Ship lost power, ship is much heavier than the bridge and could not steer. Collapse at that point inevitable.
Simply terribly sad that fell in the water and even worse for those that fell in the water! We can just pray for them!
I thought this was a blue version of bbc and taken in the uk.
Nope its a german news agency
So, the smoke that was seen before the crash was from a fire that caused the power outage? Or vice versa?
Smoke is indication of full reverse, after the first power outage. Seems to have lost power at least twice. No fire, ship engines just burn the cheapest bunker fuel and at full power they produce a lot of smoke. Unfortunately in full reverse there's basically no steering control.
Your searching for corpse by this point 😂 haven't seen footage of 1 diver in water when it happened your too late
Why did your "expert" call this ocean going contain ship a barge? Would it have made any difference if the bridge was brand new - a huge "barge" ran into a bridge support in the middle of the span....
Do you see all the containers on the ship (container ship/barge-like)?!😉
Whats that 180 degree turn ??? made by the ship or by the hackers that took over control???
Yeah, it seems it was the Russian hackers from what ive heard.

Better hire a TZinese captain. They are very good at blocking other ships and very good in maneuvering ships and the use of water cannons.😅😅😅😅
Major Supply chain delays probably.
Seems the cargo ship violated height clearance..
No it didn't
It ran into the bridge pillars😳☠️
Pretty wild. I guess the only silver lining is the fact that the bridge can be built anew, fully modernized. But I don't even know if the US is good at that kinda thing these days. Could be worse than the old one.
When they built the old one that wouldn't have imagined ships that big. These days if in a busy port there's only 2 solutions to avoid this, artificial islands to make the ships run aground well away from the pillars, or, if that's not practical due to water depth etc, a tunnel. You basically wouldn't design this bridge this way anymore. In the 70's a lot of other collapses from impacts hadn't happened yet, and in places where they did some still don't let big ships under the *new* bridges and have moved ports out onto reclaimed land.
The American 🇺🇸 bridge builder are the best in the world! Look at Italy & their small old bridge collapsing on their own without a huge ship running into them😮
Insurance company is out of pictures? why , Ships insurance does not pay? if it was a car in our streets hit ther trafic light our third party insurance would cover that now why this is different?
Oh they’ll get the insurance but not right away 😳 don’t you understand commercial infrastructure 😉🤔
I want to see the investigation results. They could have dropped anchor and probably slowed down immediately. This is absurd and should never have happened. Seems odd at the least..
They do drop anchor and go full reverse. Power outage means it’s unable to be steered. Even an anchor will not stop a ship like this. Investigation will be into why it lost power and if there was any issues with power earlier, why it hit the bridge is bloody obvious to know how ships work.

15years old ship made in S.Korea. 😆If this is China ship , all western media will report as a threat.
Facts 😂
It was built in 2015. So, 9 years old. Try and be accurate when you're lying about accuracy of others. China isn't going to attack a port, they probably own it already, and use it to sell things to the US.
They did not stop cars & trucks in the last 2 minutes, that's also false. If you look closely at the camera footage, a truck & 2 cars drove across the bridge only 10 seconds before it collapsed. They're lucky they made it across before it collapsed.
Why would they lie?
The bridge was closed for repairs. This is an established fact. Those are the repair crew vehicles on the bridge, and that's why they died. If news or government tried to lie, numerous locals would have call them out. If you don't know, Americans are very open about critizing their government.
The bridge itself was 1.6 miles long (2.6 km); those vehicles could have easily been traveling on/toward the bridge before they could stop access. I'm honestly surprised it was just a few cars we saw before it collapsed, given how busy I-695 is, even that early in the morning.
You're looking at sped up footage. They stopped cars and trucks entering the bridge >2 minutes before impact, some were still travelling along it in that time, but if you slow the footage to real time it's still clear for a good minute or two.
@@xiphoid2011 There was maintenance workers on the bridge but it wasn't closed. They stopped vehicles from entering the bridge minutes before the collapse (seems shorter in sped up footage circulating) but some vehicles took a while to leave the bridge. They did not get maintenance workers off the bridge in time as they weren't driving in their vehicles. 2 people from the bridge were rescued (one uninjured and one needing hospital) about 6 more are missing presumed dead.
Can't take it. Pretty much summed up a heavily laden barge took out one of the support columns of a bridge in Baltimore Hr. 6 people missing. (In the first 3:00.) Then for the dimwits Reexplained by some one w/an English accent. Then for those who take a full 8:00 to become cognoscente enough to realize that the news is on, Explained again "the bridge is no longer up" "And we can not rebuild it like in the movies, it will take time" Then the intellectual approach- inspections would've prevented a giant barge skippered by a cut rate captain slamming into & through any bumper that by shear "luck" has stood for decades from the days when seamen were reliable & paid accordingly. Cutting edge reporting there DW

Through the bridge collapse, perhaps God has shown the American people more clearly the current Government's problematic way of managing America.
😂😂😂😂 Delusional
So God killed a few people to troll Biden? Please don't try to use God like this, I think it's insulting
The ship was Singaporean flagged Korean built. There's no bridge in existence that could survive that kind of impact. This one was built in the 1970's. Several bridges collapsed and trains derailed under the last Government, the difference is the last government ignored it and reduced regulation to make future accidents more likely.
@@whyamihere7489 According to press news. -The United Nations Security Council on Monday (March 25) voted to adopt a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. 14 members of the Security Council supported the resolution, the US abstained. -A container ship crashed into a bridge in Baltimore city, Maryland, USA early Tuesday morning (March 26), causing the bridge to collapse and vehicles and road workers to fall into the river. -The day before (March 25), abstained. The next day (March 26), the bridge collapsed?

If the "Fed's " cover the cost to rebuild, it really means the American tax payers will be footing the bill. The shipping company's insurance should cover the cost to rebuilding, not the American taxpayers. I think the U.S. should blame Russia for this. It's their retaliation for the terrorist attack on their concert venue.
What's the difference between USA and Russia 😅 The Russian 9km bridge which is many times less than the cost price of US bridge didn't fall like this even after the hitting of the world superior missile of Germany ( Taurus missile ) But the US 900 Metre bridge collapsed like a mud house after hitting it with a ship 😅
The Russian bridge collapsed due to a truck. And a ship this big (12.3m draught) couldn’t fit under the Kerch bridge which is in very shallow water. Any bridge would collapse if this ship hit it, unless it was a land bridge.

Ms. Besser you were a bridge enginer? I hope I never travel over one of your designs. What BS you state is unbelievable. Have seen the size of that super cargo container ship. The impact (mass x velocity) is so enormus that this old bridge could not withstand it neither would any much more modern bridges withstand the impact of this ship (aprox. 500,000 metric tons). you want to built nice little guard rails?😰😭
