No joke, that made me a little bit sad. They weren't in it to win, they were there to show Dante he needed to be prepared. Technically in the end they sacrificed themselves to aid Dante to defeat Virgil, I was sad when they died.

It's still one of the coolest little details to me that they synched the whole thing up so that the lyrics in the song started exactly when you regain control of Dante. The little details were what made these games

DMC3 is still the funniest one imo, it's probably because Dante is just younger... Also, still questioning why pistols are op in the cutscenes but hit like spudguns in the game.
Because they're just combo enablers gameplay-wise, while in cutscenes they're part of the finisher.
They also represent Dante's humanity, which is DMC's whole shtick about humanity being the catalyst to power
I mean canonically those guns (ebony and Ivory mainly) pack one hell of a punch (they basically are the only guns who can withstand Dante's daily use and abuse of them no problem)
