  • Thank you for making this wonderful video! We struggled for a whole week to get our 12-week-old puppy to calm down in his crate. He would whine non-stop before freaking out and resorting to barks and making a mess of his crate. After several sleepless nights in a row, we were at our wits end. Then, looking for some guidance, I came across this video. I followed the instructions to a "T." MAGIC! The first 30 minutes were iffy, but by the end of the first hour, I could already see a difference. We worked on this on-and-off throughout the day. By bedtime, we were nervous. Our pup whimpered quietly once or twice, but otherwise remained calm and quiet. He slept through the night, only waking us up to let us know he needed to be let outside twice. It was nothing short of miraculous. He's remained calm in his crate for a couple consecutive nights. Thank you for teaching us how to be better doggy parents!

  • Did these techniques 1 hour a day with my 8 week old berner/pyraneese cross And IT WORKS!!!! First night we got him was brutal. After finding this video, doing 1 hour a day past 3 days, we get to sleep on our schedule to take him out with minimal crying every night so far. Start slow, baby steps. Make the crate comfortable and getting him to go in on his own (other videos show this) and don’t close the door right away, he knows he can go in and out and lots of treats+clicker+praises. And we feed him his foods in it. Then start closes and “quiet” like this video and build from there! Good luck folks!

  • I have a question: MCCanns videos all suggest that you should keep your pup in the crate when you are not training. One of the reasons we are getting a pup is also emotional support; to chill with him, cuddle with him and play, how is this possible when it needs to be in the crate all the time? I really appreciate all the videos you guys are sharing, great information and tips on raising a dog!

    @jantines6840@jantines684011 ай бұрын
    • I would use the crate then for sleeping. When your puppy naps its a great time to let them feel the comfort of the crate while napping. Yes I KNOW you want to pet and cuddle the sleeper, but you can continue that after you teach "comfort/sleeping" crate training. When your pup goes to the crate themselves (You leave the door open) when they want to relax/nap you know you have done it right. Crate training is over.

Or if she’s super anxious she also has to bite onto something and hold it till her whining episode is over if I don’t approach the crate with a toy she bites onto my shirt and won’t let go

  • Great content. Question: How do you calm the puppy down in the crate when there is another adult dog roaming the house who is not crated and already trained? Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for all of your puppy content! My husband and I are excited about our new puppy and feel more prepared after studying your content. We have a question regarding nighttime crate techniques for the first week. We plan on having a plastic crate that is level with our bed (similar to your video). However, it is winter here, and we worry about the puppy getting cold. Is there something you would recommend for the first few days? We can cover the crate with extra blankets or put some in the crate. We want to avoid accidents at night as much as possible. Thank you!!!!!

  • I love your videos! I’m trying to improve my 9 week old Leondoodle’s crate training, esp since we have almost 10 days to focus on puppy training. She goes in for her meals, but I’d like her to nap there, etc. Crate location is in my bedroom/kitchen, where I almost always hang out (tiny Apt). She will eventually be my mobility service dog.

  • Do u have video on crate training for older dog that had trauma as puppy? As a puppy his paw got in slat when he was transferred in/out. Now refuses a crate, even with treats

  • Love watching the training videos. My dog is good in the crate but I was wondering if the Summer in Australia is too hot to crate my dog. He’s starting to get restless after going in there at night now. He doesn’t use it during the day only for sleeping overnight and he’s been great. He’s 6 months old now but making a fuss and seems unsettled for ages before sleeping. It’s not really that warm yet. Should I take out the bedding and leave the hard bottom for him to sleep on and should I still cover it with a sheet? Thanks

  • I want to see the long form of you leaving the room and coming back immediately and seeing what the next moment was. I don't know how to progress this stage yet.

  • I have had my toy poodle a week he is 9 weeks now.. I didn't have a crate when we got him but I have a pen which I put a lovely comfy bed in.. during the day he will not sleep in the bed, howls and screams like his skin is being peeled off.. I go back so many times to reassure and give treats with him on the bed but he eventually falls asleep in the pen, not on the bed and even then he isn't asleep deeply as any sound and he is howling again.. today I started using the crate as a game as other videos showed and I can't imagine how long jts going to take to get him to actually stay in there without damaging his teeth on the metal.. I haven't tried to close the door yet but I can imagine that's what he will do.. he gets so tired too and extremely bitey at that stage.. if he isn't in the pen for a sleep/howl he follows me around and if I stand still he curls up on my feet.. I imagine he is suffering separation anxiety and I so want to get him calm and enjoying his sleep time but my levels of anxiety are getting high too now!

  • Want to get a plastic crate for my 8 week golden retriever for the initial weeks (placing it on my bed side table as you suggest). What size should I be looking at? I intend to get a larger crate with dividers for when their older

  • Mi Pomsky is 2 and I had to build a black out room out of wood and sound proof to put him in and he’ll immediately settle. Or the barking would last 5 hours
