I’m sure it was completely an accident, but filming the cluster while it was displaying 9:11PM was a great touch.
Love it when famous people celebrate cool things
Really? A 9/11 joke?

@@anishthakur4030 one of the best insults lmao
9:86 would have been great except for one little problem with that. Although I guess technically 9:86 is 10:26....
I just want to point out, though it’s not specific to this video, how it is so great (and I think, very important) that Doug (or his editor 😅) puts in a photo of every car he mentions. I am always annoyed at other car videos that don’t. It’s a very nice touch since we don’t all know what every car ever looked like, and helps viewers follow along with car histories and design evolutions.
I wanted to note that they’re usually the period correct marketing photos, always a nice touch
Alanis is the female version of Doug
Not even close 😂
False. No cargo pants. That's like making a Spider-Man movie without Spider-Man
@@lukamilicthat would be Spider-Woman….
I'm the female (short) version of Dough 😂
Not original
The 2000 Boxster S had a 3.2 liter engine, not a 2.7. The base Boxster moved from a 2.5 to a 2.7 in 2000.
I’ve been watching Doug for 10 years and have never written a comment. You hit a home run with this video! Alanis is doing so well with delivery and tempo. Glad you’re having so much fun together.
I'm honored!
@@AlanisKingyou were great
Their chemistry is good. Alanis' style complements Doug's and it doesn't feel like she's trying to copy him.
She needs to tone it down a bit. Sorry but I had to lower the volume and skip some of the annoying laughing parts....
A bit too good, don't you think? I wonder how Mrs. Demuro feels about this duo xD
She ruins his videos for me
@@i1pro lmao
damn this vid is different but I like it lol.
I've had a 2003 S in my family for 12 years and I have been reading/watching Doug the entire time waiting for him to review one. It's a fantastic, cheap, fun Porsche and with a few choice upgrades it's a serious performer. I will be keeping mine forever because there's just nothing else like it.
Literaly , my brother when he was 19 got a 2001 boxster in yellow then around 4 years later at 15 I got my 2004 boxster in red and I've been waiting for this review for a while
Waiting for the 987 Boxster S review now 🤠

@@SebastianDauod At 15?? Here in The Netherlands you’re not even allowed to drive a 50cc moped at that age. The minimum age for your drivers license is 17.5 and only when accompanied. You can drive solo only as of 18 years. Just a fun fact, no judgement. Totally different worlds.
Tyler Williams: 💯👌
The chemistry between these 2 is amazing. Hope to see more videos like this.
Yeah. I'd be happy to see Doug stick to the main channel and her to take this one over primarily. It's always great when the person is both an industry professional so they know exactly what they're talking about but is also charismatic and funny on camera. She nails both of those, and that's a rare thing.

These two are super goofy together. I like it.
I think Doug actually got a haircut for this video
It's charming a.f.
Does Doug’s wife need to be concerned?
I hate it! If I wanted that I would watch reruns of Red Skelton.
I've had one of these for almost two years. Was waiting for a Doug video to increase the price so I can sell lol
LMFAOOO 😂
Ha ha - I bought one two years ago as well. Awesome - but I have no time to drive it and need to just get my act together and sell. I will miss it though.
How do you like it? Is this sales video accurate?
@@jamestwaddle6292 I sold my Veloster N for it and it's honestly a great car. It's been reliable so far and it's great to drive. Despite my joke in the original comment, realistically see myself holding on to this car for a lot longer. You just can't find a fun, reliable, mid engined rwd sports car in this price range from any other brand.
That’s fantastic…..love it.
So happy to see Doug finally in a 986!!! I've had mine for 4 years now and absolutely love the car, they're so very worth it and I'm so glad they both liked the car as much as they did! Great video!
im not, im still saving for one before people realize what they do for the price
@@SesshomaruSama15 you'll love it when you find yours!
I was gonna get a 986 but ended up getting a C4 Corvette instead due to being roomier, faster, and more weird. Despite this, I might have to figure out how to fit a 986 in my garage someday because i've always loved it since my first exposure to it from PGR 2
@@jaypioh im on the fence for a 300zx fairlady or a 986. Funny enough your situation seems like mine
Alanis and Doug are awesome together
It's kinda cute. Their videos are like teenage friends from the playground, who grew up together and are now making videos for social media together.
I've been sayin' it for years. It truly is an incredible car for that kinda price. One of the greatest deals you can really get.
I actually prefer the yellow markers in the "fried egg" headlight over the later ones that were entirely clear. The yellow adds a nice contrast and works extremely well with the design imo
I owned a 986 boxster S and it was fantastic. I've actually owned an s2000 as well and people think its sacralidgous when I tell them the boxster S was a better car than a s2000 but it is. The S2000 wins in the looks (IMO) and 9k rpm but that's pretty much where it ends. In my experience the boxster S was just as reliable, it made slightly more power at the same weight but more noticeably more tq and it made it more consistently through the power band, it fit wider tires underneath, was more comfortable, had more cargo storage, had more grip, better steering feel, less wind noise from the top, and is significantly cheaper than a nice s2000. I'm considering buying another one.
I’m with Doug. I never thought the runny egg lights looked bad.
LOVE my 986 S. I also have a 2018 Cayman GTS, a 2005 911 Carrera S and a 1986 Targa. That is to say, I understand the Porsche range more than most. This is every bit as engaging to drive as the 911.
I'm in a wheelchair and wanted to find an open top car since I was racing motorcycles and the reason why I'm in a wheelchair. Finding a car was hard. Looked at BMW Z4, Miatas and such but the boot space for the chair when bringing a passenger along was hard. But! The Boxster was the perfect car due to the front trunk and the rear one. Started of with 986 Boxster S with the Tiptronic gearbox. But soon got the 981 with the PDK. My wheelchair fits the front trunk perfectly and is so nice to enjoy a sporty convertible without feeling I had to have a boring gearbox. Amazing cars!
986 FTW. Happy healing bro. Im also a biker who has an OG Boxter
That's what you get
Love how the review feels more like a conversation than a presentation - honestly, my request would be to push more of the back and forth and discussion to the car ride - fun way to discuss the car and enjoy a cool ride! Would also be neat to swap to Alanis driving as well part way through!
I wonder if the insurance Doug has only covers him.
Do you think people converse with that level of humor and animation?
@@JB91710 people definitely use animation and humor when communicating on a regular basis. Touch grass 😂
If you want a little more room and more storage room and have just as much fun as in a Miata, the Boxster is the perfect car. My wife and I absolutely loved ours. They are a great bang for the buck as long as you don't have any major maintenance issues like the IMS. The prices have gone up a hair for the used ones. You use to be able to find one for 5-9 all day long. Most are 10+ now. You can get to the engine when you take the cover off with the hard cover over the top when its elevated. You also get to it behind the seats
Doug, I loved the collaboration and you have A LOT more chemistry with Alanis than any other co-host. The exchanges were Dynamic and Fun. This review was excellent!!!!
The love for Alanis and hate for Kennan is hilarious
Lol i just commented the SAME😂
I think Kennan would be fine on his own but with Doug he's too similar to him and comes off as a copy. I'd like to see Kennan and Alanis do a video and see how it does. Also - why the fuck is everyone hating on someone trying to make it in life? Assholes be assholes I guess.
There's a reason though. Alanis brings her own energy and plays off Doug. Kennan sounds like he's reading Doug's script in Doug's style. It'll be interesting to see how Kennan's personality develops if he continues to do his own videos.
I literally just bought a 2001 Boxster S last month. Agree with pretty much everything you guys said. Flat six on a budget!
Is insurance steep? What about maintenance?
@@GamingHistory. insurance depends on age, how much you drive and where it’s located, for me personally, it’s pretty cheap. As for maintenance, it’s pretty expensive, especially because these cars are 20+ years old and need a lot of new bits shoved in them as preventative maintenance. I recently spent about 4k on a bunch of small things, trans and engine mounts, fuel filter, water pump, and spark plug tube seals etc.
I’ve been hoping for this video for years. Thank you Doug! I love this car. Just hope values don’t go up too much before I can get one 😂
I think this is one of your best videos ever, Doug! 😊 You never even mentioned the dreaded IMS bearing. 😮
@Werner Danler I’m an ex-Porsche technician. The 2.5 didn’t suffer from the IMS bearing issue as it had a twin row bearing which was actually reliable in service. The 2.7 &3.2 had major issues as they used a single row bearing. I personally have never seen an IMS failure on a 2.5. The early 2.5’s had a major issue which is not widely known as it always occurred within the warranty period… pieces would actually break off from the cylinder liners, wrecking the engine, this was caused by a fault in the block machining process. It’s difficult to find an early Boxster that hasn’t had a replacement engine within the warranty period. As I recall, the issue was rectified in 1998.
@@arthurdardalis Interesting bit of information about the cylinder liners, thanks for sharing!
@Arthur Dardalis thanks for that info, Arthur.
@@arthurdardalisthanks for the info. Interestingly, the one and only Boxster (a '97) I ever had inspected with the intention of buying (confident about the dual row bearing's durability), came back with metal in the oil and the tech suspecting the IMS bearing on its way out. That being said, the lady owner was not familiar with oil changes and apparently had not done one in quite some time, so the old Boxster was likely not at fault for this.

Doug and Alanis - Love this review. I bought my 2007 Black on Black Boxster Base with Manual Transmission during the height of COVID while my wife and I were "Stuck" at our place on Martha's Vineyard. It had 27K miles and cost 18.5K. This car has given me more pure joy and fun than all my other cars combined. Like yourself, I also listen to music while driving and put a good head unit, subwoofer, and helix amp in the car as well. Your pure love of the cars & the automotive world shines through all of your videos & makes for great viewing.....
I really enjoyed this video with both of you. This was the first time I've seen Alanis with Doug. Hopefully I will get to see more of her, on Doug's videos. She is full of energy and quite knowledgeable about cars.
My PlayStation 1 was the first thing I saved up for and bought with my own money. The demo disc had Porsche Challenge on it which was a game done as a kind of marketing campaign for the Boxster when it was new. It was the only car in the game. I’ve wanted one ever since!
Been wanting one ever since i tried the game !
same happened to me in Spain, also i got the driver license in 2000, so i'm still obsessed to have one of those
The same happened to me, I’m still obsessed with the boxster
I was super happy to see Alanis on the thumbnail and my immediate thought was “where will she pop out of this time?!” REALLY hope that becomes her signature thing for these videos XD Alanis has been awesome because she brings her own style and energy. You love to see it!

"The Porsche Boxter is a bargain" The market in a few weeks: "Oh I don't think so"
Freaky. I literally searched for a boxster review by Doug last night and there was nothing and now I wake up to this!
I like Alanis, she's super positive and she seems like an actual sweetheart not just acting like one.
For real...I wish she would come check out all of my quirks and features, and then take me out on the road and drive me.😍

Yes, you made a video on the 1997 986!! And you are so right, 911 aside, for the price, these are just such fun mid-engine cars. Let’s all take ourselves a little less seriously and just have fun driving these things! Look forward to seeing more on Cars and Bids!

The Doug with Alanis videos are my new favorite thing. The chemistry they have together is great.
Buddy of mine owns one of these, his dad bought it new and handed it down to him. Not bad for a first car right? Loves it to death and recently got an exhaust for it. He's made me have a huge soft spot for this particular generation of the Boxster.
Noooooo Doug dont! I am searching for a Boxter and now that you did this bloody video prices will sky rocket! Damn you!
“Carrera GT owner reviews 1st gen boxter”
But no matter how much you spend the spoiler mechanics eventually break! Ha
The rear pockets on the seats are pretty important as, with no glovebox, you need to put the owner's manual and other paperwork *somewhere*.
Wow, I was so expectinbg this to happen!!! Dough reviewing a Base Boxster. I have a 2004 2.7, and agree with ev3erything they said. Spot on. Brilliant car for not much money, putz a smile on my face everytime I drive it. On public roads, it's fast enough to keep up with the pace of her's big brothers, when I go for early morning drives with a Porsche club here in the UK.
We think it is a great car and a lot of fun!
Sure, it’s not a 911, and it’s not that fast, but the thing about a Boxster is that when you see one you always wish you could trade places with the person driving it. They’re having a blast driving that car around, and you know it!
Love it! Thank you for more, Doug!
I really like Doug's style. I also really like Alanis' style. The two of you are really great together. I love that you both really know and really love cars. That's a key differentiator for me and it's why I'm a long-time subscriber.
Should have seen this coming when I saw pictures of the Boxster next to Doug's Carrera GT (the Boxster Hulk) in yesterday's video. Absolutely no one complained about fried eggs when they saw the concept car in 1993. That only became a thing when the 996 came out after this car, looking near-identical from the front. Personally I have always loved the looks of pre-facelift 996 Carreras and 986s and I think Harm Lagaay and Grant Larson are geniuses. The bumperettes are a US-only feature and, like the 3rd brake light, relatively discretely integrated from the outset compared to what was done to the 911 bumpers in 1974. Some blame Ralph Nader, who meant well, but I suspect a protectionist motive in forcing European cars to wear deliberately ugly bumpers in the US market. Still, without Southern California, which is this car's spiritual home, Porsche as we know it would not exist.
‘Without Southern California, Porsche as we know it wouldn’t exist’ Americans crack me up✋🏻🤦🏻♂️😂😂
@@toyotawagons4584 I am not an American and I don't live in California. What exactly is it that cracks you up?
Alanis and Doug actually had great chemistry and appeared to have a lot of fun together. It's a shame C&B fired her
Great review. I can't believe I hadn't heard of Alanis before -- she's delightful and a great matchup with Doug.
This is so kind! Thank you
These used to be free pre covid :)
Good job Alanis! If ware me I would try to cut down a little on hand waving, But other then that chef kiss.
This car is insane value for money. It has 996 911 Headlamps, doors, windscreen, hood, front fenders, wheels, interior, ENGINE, 993 911 steering wheel, rear suspension and gearstick.. the 911 experience for a fraction of the cost, and with the engine in a better location. In period road tests, it was better than the 993. Car values are an odd thing, this should be worth much more.
I'm liking this chemistry. Can we get a Doug, Alana, and Hoovie video?!
I don't know if we can handle all of that. :)
Doug and Alanis! Perfect combo with great chemistry!
12:00 The runny egg shaped lights were actually one of the cost saving items that every team within Porsche had to achieve. This was the contribution of the design team. The unit has nine functions all integrated into one, which made it cheaper to produce and install than separate units. I don’t especially like those lights but apart from that, the Boxter looks gorgeous imo.
Lights being integrated into one unit at each corner is something that continues to this day. I think it's part of why we're seeing so many extreme shapes come into play to try to make light interesting again.
She’s as goofy as Doug, I love her 😂!
Freaking awesome!! Finally a Boxster 986 being reviewed by Doug 👍
How’d you not mention the intake sound during the drive? It’s one of the best car sounds ever!
Too busy yappin.
The cohesion between these two is perfect 👌 always love seeing her on!
I learned to drive a manual gearbox in a 986 Boxster. These cars are absolute gems and have been overlooked for way too long.
All i need is "more Doug & Alanis"
I like the interaction between Doug and Alanis. Bring her back more often
These kill it at the race track!
Doug I really want to thank because after your video the price of my 986 has skyrocked!!!
986 owner myself. Great to see Doug’s review! THIS……IS A PORSCHE BOXSTER
The egg headlight’s don’t bother me at all. Was a kid when these cars were brand new and liked them a lot. When some one says Porsche the egg headlights pop into my head first before the round ones. Definitely getting a stick shift boxster in the future
They're not bad looking. The only people who really cared were the 911 purists who insisted that all Porsches must have round headlights. To the rest of us, it just looks like a Porsche.
Outstanding review! Just love having two people in car reviews. This is a great addition to an already awesome channel! GO DOUG!
I just got a 01 Boxster a couple months ago, and I thought the bag on the back of the seat was so funny. Now I know I have 2/3s of a 996
I love the idea that they have matching kneepads for when they're behind the car.
I really like the duo videos. They are so fun to watch Doug.
They still seem odd and forced to me. Hopefully it will get better with time.
Check the fuse box by the drivers left leg, maybe easy fix for the aero. Also, there is a black button there to raise the aero manually. This is the same year, model and specs I have, it’s a lovely car! Great to drive, I use mine at track days and drive it hard, and it performs comparatively well except maybe on the straights. The analog experience with hydraulic steering and no driver aids except ABS makes it a sweet sports car. Keep it over 4000 rpm and it is fast. Very stable at high speeds 150+ km/h. The blank buttons can have uses, like traction control if it has the option. Mine has a cd changer in the frunk. It has over 100000 miles on it but the interior is almost like new and everything works. Getting a full service and checkup at Porsche next week so I’ll know that I can keep on driving it to the limit. Going to Nurburgring in september! Cheers from Sweden
Ive owned my 98 986 5spd for 6 years now,, Its the only car that i never once got tired of, and instead, love it more every day. I bought it in NorCal for 5600 from a dealership, with 108k, It currently has 130k miles on it. Absolutely a GEM. Rev hungry car, immaculate handling, very reliable. Makes me smile every time. Although not the fastest in todays terms, the handling balances it out to where it is still a great HPDE, Autocross, track car, or simply a spirited drivers car. I love that red interior. Mine is an Ocean Blue metallic with the sand interior.
I love these cars and bids episodes. It's more Doug to look forward to. I remember the Boxter, seeing it reviewed on car and driver and reading about it, both when it was new and as a collectable. I always respected it for saving Porsche from extinction!
I've got high hopes for Alanis on your channel. Best of luck to you expanding your business. Inspiration to everyone.
I love my 2002S daily driver. I love the headlights. I love everything about it. Thanks for the review!
Great review! Il be honest it is taking me awhile to get used to these collaboration reviews but good work.
We love the Alanis collaborations!
No we don’t.
@@craigcampbell1843 I do.
@@bwofficial1776 so speak for yourself but not for the rest of us. Saying we love her implies that we all love her and that’s definitely not the case. Personally I find her really hard to watch. If you want someone badly acting in a video that requires no acting and flipping her hair every ten seconds and strangely moving her hands around for no apparent reason when she’s not even talking and mouthing the words Doug is saying while she stares at him then she’s great but I got about two minutes in and had to stop watching because she’s so strange and annoying and was making me cringe so much. I WANTED to watch this video and would have if it had just been Doug. This is the third or fourth video of his that I really wanted to watch and wasn’t able to because he added another person unnecessarily and they annoyed the crap out of me. He got millions and millions of subscribers making videos alone. If it’s not broken don’t try to fix it.
I really enjoy these videos you make with Alanis!
I actually bought an '01 986 off C&B last year. Swapped the tires out for some new summer tires when the weather got warm, and since then it's been such a fun car to drive around. And the sound is to die for. They're not the fastest cars out there in 2023, but they're quick enough that I have to watch my speed on the back roads, since the car carries so much speed coming out of the corners. For the price, you'd be hard pressed to find a better weekend car, and there's a shocking amount of storage for bags/groceries. Think of it like a slightly nicer miata. These cars have a few weak points that are well known at this point, but mine's been reliable on the whole so far. Just stay on top of regular maintenance, and budget 3-4k on top of the car price budget for an IMS bearing replacement if it hasn't already been done (you'll get some of that back in added value for doing it). If anyone's on the fence, I'd say go for it. These cars are cheap enough that you can stow a few grand away for maintenance and still come out waaaay cheaper than most cars people are buying these days.
This is exactly where you should post videos featuring you and guests!
That is the plan!
Been my daily for the past 4 years. Been a great little car. Bought it for 9800 in 2019 with 44k miles. Got it right before all the prices went sky high.
Fantastic collaboration. Knocked it outta de park. Thanks
Alanis is a perfect cohost. Don't need to convince us on her
I got a 2000 Boxster S, and I love it. For many people, these aren't a step down from a 911, but rather a step up from a NB Miata.
@Ernie H Cheapest I could find is double the price of my boxster
Early 00s Boxters are some of the best values in sports cars. They're plenty fast for legal speeds and surprisingly reliable and affordable.
Alanis and Doug really do mesh well together. Great vibe!
So, it's like the old More Doug Demuro format?
I think I’m turning into Alanis’s #1 simp. She’s awesome. Love her on DRS too.
Thank you for listening!
I love the size of these, I feel enthusiast will look back to them like we do to older Mercedes and porches. the simple body shape will probably age very well compared to the wider porches of today.
Your friend has absolutely improved her on-screen presence (rapport, tone, cadence). Great video …. together. Thanks.
We filmed both around the same time! Thanks for watching
Your welcome. You are are very impressive with your knowledge and passion. Cheers.
Great review. tnx. I'm happy that the boxster is getting deserved attention. Especially if we look at S. Tachometer: shift point is important. No question. But also it is easier to see how you hit the corner by tacho rather than speedo because it is more precise i.e easier to read
Doug's show got better!!
I love the positive feedback here for a new presenter. No matter how good she is, on the main channel she would be crucified by overreacting "fans"
The Boxter S is the preferred one to have imo. Not only does it have a more powerful engine, it also has a better suspension and breaks.
happy with these duel reviews being on this channel
Currently daily a 986.2. Glad to see them get some big recognition
You can tell she has tons of hosting experience, great addition
Alanis is a great addition to these videos!
I love my '00 Boxster S. The 6 speed and the 3.2 are great. It's just a fun car
I’m a straight guy on his second Miata. I don’t have a complex. Some people just don’t get it. I like the Boxster, and I’ve always felt it was underrated. This color combo is perfect!
The Le Mans-Story about the ignition on the left side is disputed - some people say it was because in the early days all these cables were expensive and Porsche was already saving money. On the left side they needed a shorter cable and that was the reason.
Doug finally found a great "work wife".
