Hacksmith has to be the only company to casually use an actual lightsabre for construction
they should just fit the lightsabre to the robot. Think Gruff, but with a lightsabre to melt right through the opponent's armour. Win or lose, that thing would be awesome to watch, plus the inevitable explosion when they lose... :)
that came in real handy huh
@@jasonhilts2661 their lightsabers right now takes like 2 minutes of straight burning to get through steel, also the gas tanks would have to be super big and are combustable
@@Itsme-qn7sp also that's against battlebots rules because of metal melting

We're thrilled to be part of the journey. We hope Orbitron shredded the competition!

@@nightmareblack3346maybe in the future they can make atom from real steel!
and then they did
As a former electrical engenier in germany please avoid multilayer ceramic capacitators. They crack under vibrations or impactpluses. They are known to burst and short the supplyrail connected. Replace them with single layer cersmic capacitators or tantalum capacitators. I can tell you a dozent cases where there are going bed. In one case it was on a cnc controller board. A spindle crash had shock the maschiene. The caps looked visual good. With the help of a thermal camara we could see that they are shortet. After desoldering they came appart in two pieces. In some cases they even pass a normal resistans test and arc at higher voltages ass the 3v ohm test of a standart multimeter.
So yeah you are correct in that they crack however there are ways to use ceramic caps in high vibe and shock environments without issue. I’ve put them on rockets just fine (and I mean big rockets). Some come with soft terminations, others have J-leads, potting helps put strain relief on the solder joints and putting the electronics on mechanical isolators can dampen the higher frequencies that would damage the caps. There are many methods to approach it to make it work. In the case of your CNC controller board it’s possible the design was made without the requirement of surviving high vibe or shock, especially if it was mounted away from the moving parts.
hoping my reply boosts this comment
I feel some Deutschheit in your response. Anyway, great addition. Electrolytic capacitors would also be likely to burst under stress, wouldn't they? Just asking.
@@nicholas_obert every component needs to be secured in such a way that it is resistant to vibrations. Elkos can be glued or Pottet. The Real problem is how a failure affects The circuit. Normaly there are multiple elkos. If one lead or solder joint breaks its not a big problem. It is simply out of the circuit. If a multilayer ceramic cap breaks it offen shorts the circuit. That means all electronic on that rail is dead.
@@cordawg89 how big are we talking?
The co creator of BattleBots trey roski has said that from the various amount of proving grounds participants both manta and orbitron are guaranteed to enter the tv show!
as long as disarray doesnt get in, I'm happy
To preserve hardness: 1.) cooling naturally makes the metal softer. 2.) Quinching the metal in a oil bath is the recommended method for preserving hardness.
You can cold bend ar500. You just need a much bigger radius. Look at how big the radius Witchdoctor has on their front wedges
Stay hard 🦅🦅🦅
If you cool the material quickly (quenching) it becomes harder but more brittle (which I doubt would benefit armor that is suposed to recieve impacts). Source, a lab in material science I did yesterday.
You wrong kinda
A lot more difficult to do- quench cool the outside face for hardness and slow cool the inside face for softer more ductile metal. The softer internal protects the harder face from failing catastrophically when it takes an extreme hit. Same principle is used on katana blades and battleship armour plating.
Bogdan - If you want to pot electronics, you need to pot them with something soft like silastic first before you shroud or submerge that in epoxy. Components flex too much during thermal loading, which will cause them to fail if potted directly. The 2-stage potting is what's used on high-end e-bike controllers, for the same reasons.
I am sincerely cheering for you guys to make it big in battlebots and go against the big-dogs like Endgame, Sawblaze, Hydra, Riptide etc. IT WILL BE LIT!
10:00 Hearing, “We’ve made some really cool scale models of Orbitron” while I’m 3D printing scaled models I designed of my own combat robot while watching this is actually hilarious

I love your stronger bar shape, and blue too! :) Glad to see you all building BattleBots, keep it up, thanks for sharing this video with such a wide audience! -Paul Ventimiglia (Bite Force)
You were always the best/most crafty driver at battlebots, so fun to watch
Thanks Paul! Means a lot coming from a legend like you!
The battlebot episodes are my favorite
What happens to the orbiting algorithm if the other robot is in the corner? Will the orbit move to the center or will your robot hit a wall. Interested to hear how you solved that. Great job on the robot, looking forward to the fight footage.
That's why it's an assist mode, not always on
It's truly impressive to see the dedication and hard work put into improving Orbitron. The attention to detail in redesigning, rebuilding and going back to fight shows real commitment. The usage of ar500 for the blades must have been a game-changer!
they just casually pull out lightsabre to heat things up is crazy
@@JonaasK Or when they spell rogue "rouge"

Good luck guys! new version looks great! Fingers crossed you get the W :)
A new version very well cared for and designed. Good luck guys
my favourite youtubers joining the battlebots, I'm loving this very much.
I was so sad when it failed for the first time. Im so happy it is back :)
LOVE that you dove right in machining 3/4 aluminum on our machines! As a bunch of engineering nerds ourselves we are super impressed. Keep it up!🦾
Love our new router table!!!
Really enjoying the new format of videos. Less standard youtube quantity and more quality video content. Keep up the good work!
Sadly our views have been super low 😞 not sure what to do
Yes I also noticed
But don't worry you guys are still the best😊
@@theHacksmith if it helps, I saw the thumbnail multiple times and I ignored it until I realized it was yours. The before/after format doesn't provide a lot of information here It may appeal only to BattleBots enthusiasts and that could be sending mixed signals to the algorithm. A thumbnail with more spectacle may be more inline with your target audience. I'd say a shot of orbitron launching engine into the air, I see it referenced a lot in the comments as the high point of the video. Either way, keep testing to find a solution for the drop in views and keep creating great inventions!
@@theHacksmithstrangely I haven't seen your guys stuff in my feed. This is the first time in a while.
You should cover the Robot with cut protection trousers. That would stop all rotation weapons.
Entanglement is against the rules
Sadly against the rules. Thats why the fights are always boring spinner x vs spinner y
@@ThePunischer1000 boring??
It won't work I think
I guess yea. I mean, i can think of so many types of robots, like a ramming bot designed to basically vibrate the internals of the opponent and shake it loose, a bot with an induction coil to melt the opponent, a trapper bot that catches the opponent etc. @@subsnovideos-ur4cn The point of a robot v robot battle should be making the best robot that can win. So use as many dirty tricks as possible
The sheer power of Orbitron is incredible!!

Gyz you should try spiderman fabricator trust me people will go nuts love Pakistan
That thing is terrifying, good job!
To preserve hardness: 1.) cooling naturally makes the metal softer. 2.) Quinching the metal in a oil bath is the recommended method for preserving hardness. I saw deltoncbaker post this first and would agree after looking it up when i heard them say let it cool naturally but maybe its cause of the type of metal
some metals are air hardening some need an oil quench some need a water quench some need a cryo quench in super cooled liquid -300f others need to be slowly cooled to prevent stress fractures it really comes down to what alloy
Assuming that's an aluminum plate, regular quenching would probably not work. Maybe precipitation hardening? Edit: Yep, I missed it's ar500
Well they did say it's ar 500
@@nicholas_obertjust an FYI you can heat treat many aluminum alloys for both hardness or for ductility Heat treating dose not mean hardening you can heat treat to get a particular grain structure to hit a hardness or flexibility or machine ability or just to refine the crystalline grain structure of the metal
I love that you take your Ls and turn them around as if they were a W! Huge learning potential that is now getting used! Really excited for this new chapter!

Sick!!! You all did a really cool job on this!!!
super cool, nice to see the explanation of the changes
Loved watching him run off with the shredder parts lol

Hacksmith gonna put a lightsabre on a battlebot 😂
That would be cool.
Yess so glad that this series is back!

Really loved your energy 💖 Let's go team❤
YES!! Im Excited!!
Hacksmith been hitting the zaza in the intro. Sick vid, glad you revisited battlebots!
To harden metal, you need to quickly cool it down. That AR500 is already hardened, but if you heat it up that hot and slowly cool it down, its no longer hardened.
We were in Vegas two weeks ago for your fight ! Congrats guys you were great !!
I'm very glad you didn't give up after the first attempt. There's 1000% more value in this second video/attempt than there was in the first. GG guys. And Good luck in the competition! It certainly looks like you're much better prepared for it this time :)
Good luck, guys. It looks killer.
This is a great concept, it's worth putting it back into the fray.
The Hacksmith gonna rise like a phoenix in Battlebots.
15:31 “tossed this thing 5 ft into the air” as if you canadians are even brave enough to use the imperial system
Yessss lessss gooooooooo, i started to think they gave up, but this is just awsome
Oh man. I'm on pins and needles for the fight. Good luck, y'all!
Seeing that thing toss around washing machines and engine blocks is incredible. I've had to move those things myself, and I can safely say that anything that impacts with enough force to hurl it through the air is dangerous in the extreme. I can't wait to see it in action!
Good luck Dudes!
Absolutely wild
You should check out the NHRL robot competitions too! I feel like it would suit the channel well. :)
Always the best videos💪💪💪
The fact that Orbitron could go THROUGH the hot water tank, fling it several feet in the air, and still have enough energy left in the weapon to shred more parts off the washing machine is equally terrifying and awesome. 😂
That's a cool timelapse at 7:25 using the robotic arm!
So cool! I’m almost 40 yr old and grew up watching all the different versions Battle Bots. Really cool to witness the evolution of the sport and really curious to see how AI will impact fights going forward. Solid concept for sure while still utilizing human input.
Yeah it'll be interesting to see if it's actually useful. Could just be a gimmick, could be extremely good! I imagine it'll depend on driver skill / ability to manage workload
Whats the point of having AI ? Its cheating ,it removes human part from battle bots.Whats next ? Put Ai in a F1 car and remove driver completely ?
@@zumbazumba1 I don’t see it as cheating. It seems like the next evolution of the sport. A huge part of the sport is the programming. Like with drones there are different modes you can fly in and they each have advantages and disadvantages. You can have your drone auto level where the drone basically returns to center when you let go of the sticks and the drone won’t go past a certain tipping point… OR you can fly full acro which means you manually have to bring the drone back to center or it will keep flipping. Pros fly full acro. So there’s going to be advantages and disadvantages to AI and software vs full manual. I’m sure Battle Bots will navigate those things if it becomes completely unbalanced in competition. But I’m here for it!
Absolutely love this battle bot series. One of my favorites.
Looks like you’ve learnt a lot and made many improvements but that’s what it’s all about. Glad you’re going back better than before rather than giving up.
