  • I love that you're already using the cable tester with pre-included cables! Hopefully this pushes manufacturers to provide better quality cables in the long run. @williamluong7743@williamluong77432 жыл бұрын
    • @@williamluong7743 The signal itself is fine, but more resistance = more heat. Plus if you have a power supply sending out a certain amount of power, there may be less than expected at the other end of it due to the resistance. Linus explained one of the possible issues with that. Fixing this issue is as simple as making the wires thicker. It's also possible that the electrical connections within are sub-par. Looking at the tests results, that seems like a possibility but I'm no expert.

      @poipoi300@poipoi3002 жыл бұрын
    • @@williamluong7743 yes it can. If the signal arriving at the other end is too weak, it can't be interpreted reliably anymore, even if it's a digital signal. However, this is likely not gonna be the issue with a 3 meter USB cable. What's more likely to cause issues here is thermal resistance when you connect a USB devices that draws max power from that USB port. And as Linus said in this video, the rated power draw of this mic is actually quite close to the maximum power draw of USB 2.0, so if you run this mic hot* for prolonged time for some reason, it" might literally get hot and potentially cause damage. _*as in turning the gain all the way up_ _"the cable/USB port_

      @drkastenbrot@drkastenbrot2 жыл бұрын

  • sound pretty good. comfortable sound. although found it a bit lifeless sounding on my pro monitoring setup. other devices/setups it was good. I think they might have a low pass filter and maybe even a small eq cut to de-ess. smart move for streaming and online calls if they do have that and would explain the dullness/lifelessness in the high frequencies.

  • Pretty solid mic for right out of the box. I love the cable tester, but little request: Could you put up a small little list of potential issues for each of the 3 major tests it does? Like what potential problems in the future for the cable might be if the DC resistance is too high. Doesn't have to be super in-depth or anything, but would be nice to see.

    • He already did for the failing one. But yes, I think some little explanation will be nice for other parameter too. However, given that it is a data cable, most probably the other two parameter are just how reliable the signal on the cable will be and that is a sufficient explanation for short circuit video. Maybe on full review then it should be explained in more details.

  • Not bad. I have an akg lyra and love it so I'm always curious how other USB mics compare.

  • Also, with cable. Usually when you get audio interface, you can power 2 microphones like this one, by using only one USB-C cable, also you power whole processing, headphones and speakers. So its not bad that this cable is a little bit too long, because it will deliver required voltages and it should be USB 2.0 which should be fine at 3 meters

  • definitely not bad but the wave 3 does have that nice clipguard which helps a lot. but as for simplicity this does stricke everything. shock mount would need a bit of work it seems

  • One test it would be nice to see on something like this is the audio if you are talking and typing on a mechanical keyboard whilst the mic is on the desk, I would like to see how intrusive that sort of sound is.

  • considering price im really dissapointed there isn't an xlr port on it to be able to upgrade to a proper xlr setup later on, lots of mices from around that price point have it as aditional audio out

  • I had out-of-spec DP cables that caused my motherboard to be powered from my monitor and it caused POST issues and all kinds of weird bios glitches. It would think the CPU was -55oC so all the fans went dead. Please test more cables.

  • I would love an in-depth mic tutorial for OBS from you all. It always sounds so nice. Like, what VST-plugins do you use, if any? You always state get it in that yellow and near red but that doesn't really account for when you get louder than normal. For LPs, I always edit it after but with OBS, how exactly do you get it sounding so good in the moment?

    • Setup a gate and compression. With a gate you avoid any low volume background noise from constantly humming and with compression you can avoid bursting ear drums when you get louder than normal. Compression is made exactly to keep your volume normalized whether you are louder or quieter than normal.
